Don't know why he isn't mentioned on the 'best guitarists of all time' lists. Saw him live in his prime in Tallahassee and he had like 3 acoustic and maybe as many as 6 electric guitars, one being a double neck, played a number of acoustic pieces sprinkled with his new stuff (at the time!) and was masterful on them all. One of my favorite musicians.

Listen to "World of Wonders" from this same eTown set and tell me again about Bruce's "prime". I have seen him live a dozen times in the last 35 years and he is always exceptional. As far as I can tell, he is still in his prime.

In my opinioni this kind of lists are useful, there are many many many great guitarists not mentioned and surely Bruce Cockburn is one of them 👍

Dennis - I so understand where you are coming from. I also treasure Cockburn's gorgeous music. But to me, he came after my listens to the best-ests . . . the first being Bob Dylan. And then Springsteen, via Born To Run, from day one ('75). And having said that . . . I'm going to now listen to 'Cockburn's' song "Candy Man's Gone" next. That tune is so great!

Had the pleasure of meeting him at YTS early 90's.. Such a great personality, friendly and interested in his fans..asking about my life, made a big impact on this fan.. You're the best Mr. Cockburn

Completely. I never thought I would think BC needed back up, AND HE INDEED DOES NOT; but this gave tiny pop to one of my favorite BC songs.

The Best Acoustic Guitarist to Come Out Of Ottawa & Canada & North America/World .. I still remember the days when Bruce would come back to Ottawa from Toronto & The School of Music & be playing better & better each time ...ahh Le Hibou & the Good Old Days on Sussex Street. Keep it up Bruce you inspire me @ 73 .. just bought yet another Guitar .. Seagull S6 (Made in Canada), acoustic/Elec @ Lauzon's In Kingston, & now I have to see If I can remember the "C" Chord.

Wonderful memory of doing a set at a festival in Nelson BC, oh some time in the seventies when Bruce joined us for two songs, one of mine and also his song One Day I’ll Walk. We had met up at the Vancouver Folk Festival and got together at a friend’s house to rehearse. He was travelling solo in a camper van. I think he and Kitty had recently split up. My memory was that he was dressed in grey green like a scout and his skin seemed to emit light. That’s what I recall. What a treat to play with him.

"Above the dark town After the sun's gone down Two vapour trails cross the sky Catching the day's last slow goodbye Black skyline looks rich as velvet Something is shining Like gold but better Rumours of glory Smiles mixed with curses The crowd disperses About whom no details are known Each one alone yet not alone Behind the painfear Etched on the faces Something is shining Like gold but better Rumours of glory Rumours of glory, alright You see the extremes Of what humans can be? And in that distance some tension's born Energy surging like a storm You plunge your hand in And draw it back scorched Beneath it's shining like Gold but better Rumours of glory Rumours of glory, glory, glory, glory Rumours of glory, oh huh huh Rumours of glory Rumours of glory, glory, glory, glory Rumours of glory Rumours of glory

BC is one of my favorite activist, compassionate song writers and a fine musician too . You notice he doesn't use a pick , uses open handed plucking & strumming . Stephen Stills played guitar the same way electric or acoustic

Ooofff. Her voice. Sorry, but it's intrusive and distracting. Could never stomach it. He did this song with Sam Phillips in the 90's on Background Vocals and it was much better. Sorry, can't deal with it. Annoying harmonies there.
