It seems like life in SA in the 80s was amazing, clean and safe. A total night and day difference from what it currently is now. I look at the current state of it now and it looks like its almost uninhabitable and extremely unsafe. Maybe Im wrong.

So nice to hear this-used to listen to Radio Orion when working nights in Pretoria in the late 80'S. Been in the UK now for the last 10 years-this brings back such memories. Hell I miss SA.

yeah who would of thought in 1988 that it would be nostalgia in 2008? i was born in 1985, but those days in south africa looks much better than now. anybody have a time machine?

Fascinating story at 8:00 about the DJ picking up his son at the airport. This is why late-night radio is an exercise in wasting time.

Doing National Service, based at Langebaan Road AFB. Just about 5 months to go before the end. What did they call us? "Ou Manne" I believe. Funny, a "ou man" at just 18 years of age. Probably busy preparing for our base participation in the Air Force rugby week at Dunnotar. Those were easy and difficult times. All at the same time.

Notice that it's only 22:15 and TV is done. Those were the days. LOL

I could be wrong, but I don't think 'Teledata' provided some services that the U'K's 'Ceefax' did, such as subtitles for TV programmes.

@@jamesleicher I was never in the world during the 80s to 90s. I was only there in the mid 2000s until now. Edit: But the economy was thriving and that was good. The only bad thing was racial segregation.

I have not heard of the ANC killing people who did not agree with them. If you are talking about the struggle with Inkatha that was known. Tamp down your paranoia a bit.
