I don’t mean to brag but after living in US for 20 years I can tell you native English speakers would understand nothing if you ask them these(except the floor). Here is how they will ask: How many Presidents were there before Putin? How many years has it been? (Anniversary and other such things ) Are you the eldest/youngest? The floor part is Ok but it’s generally “where’s ur office?” The key is context and the listener would understand whats being asked. Spoken English is almost like a different language just like in the case of any other language. An example - the question “Who are you?” I have heard this question literally only in movies and never in any actual conversation. Depending on context and formality, here is how it goes: And you are..? And who might you be? Who did you say you were? May I know who I am talking to? Who are you again? Whom do I owe the pleasure of talking to? You are the who? (This is my personal favorite) A plain “who are you?” Is generally rude and you hear it in disdainful, confrontational or appreciative context. Hope that helps.

Yes .. also I think I would probably ask a native speaker "How many houses/blocks down the street is your home?" Or just plainly " do you live on the street?" And they would respond by saying " I live a couple of blocks down the street" I guess "what number your house is? " might fly in India, but surely a native speaker won't understand.

Another simple way: How manyth president is Putin (among the Russion presidents chronologically)? How manyth mobile is this (since you started changing your phones periodically)? The manyth is not a non-existent usage. It was found in the medieval English language, mostly used for verses and poetries. This is definitely an equivalent for "ethraamathe" and probably the only one so far accepted as the direct and simplest!

Mam, the same question had been discussed years back, I mean in 1980s, in a magazine meant for candidates preparing for jobs. The English language expert, handling the *English corner* in that magazine,had suggested that it would be only grammatically and structurally correct to ask " which of India's Prime minister is Indira Gandhi?".. but years later, that man admitted it to be a mistake...as you know, it's difficult to find suitable words in Malayalam for every English word... Swami Vivekananda says that, there is no exact word in English, that denotes the meaning of the Sanskrit word *Ananda* in English.. is it correct to translate *Ananda* as happiness...joy.... ecstasy.... bliss..?

On is normally used with the word list...for example, on the waiting list...on the shortlist etc except after the word like include....for example, this item is included in the list....not on the list. Trust this helps
