Some people have no shame selling junk. I get it's a mystery box and you don't know what you're going to get, but the seller should at least have some respect for the buyer and put something of value in it. You're always so positive about it. I wish I had the light hearted attitude you have. It's what keeps me coming back. 🥰

S & H green stamp! Like Quality Stamps and Top Value Stamps, these were given in various denominations when you shopped at different grocery stores in the 60's and 70's. You pasted them in books and then redeemed them for products. They even had showroom stores where you could pick stuff out. I still have a rocking chair (wooden with pads) that my grandmother bought me with Quality Stamps. I did pass it on to my granddaughter. Good memories!

I’m 61 and I can remember as a little girl my mother and grandmother would get green stamps when they shopped. I used to love watching them fill their books and then exchanging them for products at the green stamps store. Also, that movie Michael is really good. The rest of the stuff is not here nor there. Hello Melissa I was a young girl when Green stamps came out I can remember my grandparents saving them I'm 56 years old. They would have books that you filled then you took them back to the store and you got gifts for them usually kitchen things. They got them from grocery stores when they bought groceries they got so many stamps..

The plastic was there to protect the contents from dirt and skin oil. The S&H was a “green stamp” -they were given out at grocery stores and acted like a coupon once you had your book full. All of the things I noticed had some historical value-some not a huge amount of value but some value. If you make the right contacts you might be surprised how much potential value you have. I was a freshman in college when 8 tracks became popular. Enjoy your historical trivia!

Can’t believe you got a pepsi bottle cap with the cork in the back. When I was "very" young, we’d take these caps from every soda, remove the cork, put the cap on our blouse and push the cork from the inside. It became a button. The movie theaters would have specials on Saturday where they played cartoons all day. To get in free they would ask for a special bottle top, like 7up. You’d go through your pile of buttons looking for the favored one. You’d give it to the ticket lady and she would give you a free ticket to get in. You’d buy popcorn and get free refills all day. Same with the soda. This was in the 50s. Haven’t seen one of those caps for YEARS. 😊😊😊

S&H green stamps were one of many companies with trading stamps. There were redemption stores you took your filled books of stamps in and used them to purchase items. They had housewares. Linens, toys, tools, camping equipment etc. Instead of a price it told how many books it took to purchase an item. I remember going with my Mom when I was very young. Grocery stores and some gas stations gave stamps out with each purchase. Perfect ephemera mystery box for junk journals 😂.

Google each item to get the depth of the “decades walk down memory lane” in the box. I am 72, and several items stand out. I would recommend the big calendar art poster to be wrapped around a sturdy cardboard tube to protect it next time something that fragile is shipped. The obsolete cassette tape was 2 greats in Jazz history Ella Fitzgerald was a pioneer Jazz singer, perhaps the Queen of Jazz, Count Basie was known of the Best Big Band leader..a Coca Cola ad like that would have sold for several dollars back in the 70’s and early 80’s. The reverse side with the travel ad would be fun to research further. A penny used to represent a nice piece of candyThe old book was a classic example of popular paperbacks ‘back in the day’, written for men, they were as popular then as ‘romance novels’ are popular for women now. What a coincidence that I just received an Etsy order of several Blue Chip and Green Stamp filled books, enough to get redeemed for a living room lamp, an iron or the sturdiest card table that would still be sturdy today. Think of those stamps as todays ‘cash back’ on credit cards. Fun history involved in that little stamps I still have an Italian pottery vase my Mom got with those stamps. Watch the movie Michael in another format, a very good movie. Michael is an unlikely angel. Go through the package with your parents or someone older than them to see it in context. All things are trivia, all things can also be a window to the past. The slide can be turned into kitschy photos that junk journal enthusiasts would love. Oh dear I am rambling on now. Melissa I love your good humor as you go through your mystery boxes. And yes, junk drawer contents are a thing on Etsy too! Happy New Year!
