I am so glad to hear your reactions, you understood and appreciated her talent.👍👍 This lady was one strong survivor. She battled several very serious health issues, kicked several strong addictions throughout decades, came through many heartaches in her life and still came out tough and belting out her soul. Her song At Last was covered by Beyonce when she played Etta in the movie Cadillac, the story of Chess Records, where Etta was a star. Her son talks about his mother in a video telling how she wasn't treated fairly. Some of her other songs are All I Could Do Was Cry, My Dearest Darling and Tell Mama. Some of the people commenting seem to be white women in our 70's. She was and has been an icon for over 60 years. Thanks for your reaction.

This song is a few years older than me. Etta started recording at Mussel Shoals studio shortly after Aretha Franklin recorded "I Never Loved a Man". You probably recognized the melody. It's the same as Chris Stapleton's version of "Tennessee Whiskey". He changed the original melody to sound more like an R&B song.

Ok when I saw you reacting to Etta, i.there!!! Last saw her perform live at Seattle Bumbershoot Festival with Buddy Guy in 1991. She performed with her band and tore the house down, singing from deep in her soul, heaving her breasts and swivelling her hips to the music, singing the blues about a man who done her wrong. Epic, her sistas at the side of stage keeping her cool between each song. We were all enraptured by Etta that day😜🎵

Yes, she was singing her pain. And abandonment. I felt it . Her STORY ISN'T THAT WAY YES HE DISCOVERED Etta James but this man had met his wife a bit before her but she knew somewhat that he was married. But on the other hand Etta was receiving more love than the wife but she could not take it because he was her life line he was the one to look out for her and to pull her through these difficult time he Daddy was the famous Minnesota Fats pool playing shark back in those days but he denied her she was abandon from the time she was conceived until she was born yes by both parents she had an super super hard life and she had to fight her way through.
