The best masterclass I have ever seen on KZbin. Firstly listening to the student's play, secondary not long but enough attractive presentation. It is simple but very difficult.

Great playing! I am looking for more of On You Kim on the viola. Especially her Walton performance.

Walton wrote 2 string concertos: The violin and the cello concerto. The viola concerto is a sad story, because in a normal live performance, you won't hear 90% of the viola notes. Now violists try to compensate this, as you can see in this video. It's a vaste, this concerto works with piano accompaniment only. Except 3 violists who have the best 3 violas of the world, and at the same time conductors who know that the orchestra has to play pp most of the time.

That's not quite the case. Maybe back then, sure. There are so many phenomenal violas out in this world rather than just 3. We violists do have to work harder to get our sound to project, but it certainly works with orchestra!

Umm. Listen to Lawrence Powers recording with the BBC SSO - recorded live.

This concerto works with piano accompaniment only? That is absolutely not true! If it were true, the orchestration of this wonderful music - and with it the rest of 20th century viola concertos - would have been a failure. The beautiful renditions with Marc Sabbah and Roberto Diaz on youtube can prove you wrong. Greetings from Bonn, Germany.

I have to agree, most players play Walton's concerto like it's Bartok's and it doesn't work

I am sure that you don't have idea that you are talking about in your completely disoriented and false opinion. Poor man!!!
