What is the link between the Ukraine war and trade between the EU and Mercosur? This agreement will be mutual benefits as the EU needs clean energy for its industry and South America has a lot of potential, on the other hand, the Mercosur will benefit from local development and investments. The blockers are the European agribusiness that wants to impose the price of food in Europe, even if it causes inflation in the continent.

This agreement is unlikely to be finalized in the short term. Both sides have concerns about its implementation. On the European Union side, there are farmers who fear being flooded by South American products and on the other hand, there is Mercosur, who fear competition from European industrialized products. In the end, both will have to give in if they want to reach some agreement. Furthermore, I see Mercosur in an advantageous position, because whether they like it or not, they were less affected by the war in Ukraine than Europe.
@ZZ-oc2eb Жыл бұрын
Well said. In the end thanks to South America’s not intervening in the Ukraine war they have the upper hand truly. Hope they realize that. Nowadays countries that were former colonies are beginning to wake up in its politics and self identity and not rely constantly on Europe which in the end is so beneficial to everyone. But rich Europeans will not like that as their riches will be cut off so I fear for former colonies as a result of that if it leads to corrupt war.

EU already U$A vessel state ? 19-7-2023 President Emmanuel Macron questioned the European Commission's decision to appoint an American to such an important position in the EU, even saying that "neither China nor the United States would do this." Morton was appointed as the chief economist of the competition department. She will participate in the supervision of American companies and play a key role in evaluating issues such as antitrust investigations, mergers and acquisitions, and government subsidies. She may also make an important decision on the EU's promotion of the "Digital Market Act", which aims to restrict large platforms in the digital field such as social networks and search engines, and target technology giants Macron said that this move is not in line with Brussels' strategic autonomy goals. "Strategic autonomy means the need to think autonomously." He was surprised that the committee could not find an EU citizen for a relevant position. This may result in a conflict of interest. "This means we have very serious problems in all the academic systems in Europe. Neither the US nor China will allow something like this to happen."

You would get the same trouble everywhere, the reality is Europe will need a reliable food source now that Ukraine grain is at risk, the MERCOSUR is the only real place who can do that without too much problems, but France and agrobusiness around the EU are blocking the deal as much as they can so they can keep competition low. it would be great if the deal could be achieved soon for both parties (after 20 years of back and forth) , but it is Europe who has to move this time, not MERCOSUR.
@Srt092 Жыл бұрын
@@rockstepguy3524 The reason France and agrobusiness would block such a deal is because your first statement is simply incorrect.. Solving the corruption problem in Brazil is the first step before any agreement. How can we (Brazilians) be an example to the world if we can't even solve our own problems? Lula (like many Brazilians) blame other countries for our problems, but does not act in favor of Brazil. China doesn't want partnership with Brazil, they want to take control of our resources. Chinese fishing boats continues to do illegal fishing in international waters close to Brazil and Argentina.
@larissamello374 Жыл бұрын
We do not intend to be an example to the world. We are just trying to close a commercial deal. And in what concernes environmental issues there is no country greener than Brazil with 66% native forests and 85% renewable energy.
@rafasoares7 Жыл бұрын
@@larissamello374aving 66% of “native forests” means little if Brazil doesn’t fix its deforestation problem. Europe is right to ask for guarantees of environmental protections if Brazils environmental protections are subject to the whims of whoever gets in government. See what Bolsonaro did to the Amazon. It’s different now with Lula in power, but he won’t be the president forever. As a Brazilian, I 100% support the European concern. Maybe that’s what we need to enact concrete, permanent changes, to our institutional framework of environmental protections and keep our “66% of native forests” as they are.
