Far-right gains in EU elections have sent the bloc into turmoil and triggered a political earthquake in France, with President Emmanuel Macron calling snap legislative polls in a high-risk move. Although centrist mainstream parties kept an overall majority in the European Parliament, preliminary results of the vote sent Europe's stock markets and the euro sliding.

I was in Italy last month and none of this is surprising at all. The immigration issues are palpable and obvious and they are affecting citizens as much as tourists. On top of that, you can't just strap a "far-right" or "racist" label on people who are concerned about the criminality and tension that uncontrolled immigration is causing, or people who value their culture and identity as something worth protecting. I'm traditionally left-leaning but actually being in Europe and experimenting what they are experimenting first hand really changed my perspective.

Meloni is not 'far-right' and that labelling was rejected by a left journalist in Italy. People are just rejecting being bullied by far left and those who will not or cannot get the migration numbers correct. Take Poland for example, they are not having the same issues as France, Sweden, UK, Germany. People simply want policies that do not take their living standard backwards.
