Protip: If you control all provinces in the 2 trade nodes of Kilwa and the cape, you retain 100% of trade in the Kilwa node.

And if you go far out to the east, you can easily rival the colonial powers trade income in early and late game with just the asian trade!

And if you conquer and colonize the centers of trade in Ivory Coast it makes Cape an end node which you can make the richest in the world with the trade from east Africa/India/Indonesia/China/Mexico/etc.

Even if you don't go for a colonial game as kilwa you still need at least one colonist and the one from your mission tree is not enough to colonize everything around you, that's why you may wanna take expansion and drop it latter.

Glad to see a guide for an underrated beast. Though, I must point out taking ADM 5 at 1480 is a bit too late, esp for a colonial gameplay. You really wanna get to Cape FAST and colonize the coastal provinces first, then colonize the Indian Ocean islands and get to Australia & new world. If you take ADM 5 around 1460, you should be able to even get to SA and spawn colonialism. Colonization is an opportunity-cost game, and devving up ALL 6 gold mines isn't as important because you won't be spending that kinda money on anything in the early game (too few buildings and low-dev provinces). Still a good guide overall for newer players tho 👌

@@fidoruh that and it can be interesting to know how to play tall with it since it can be hard to get gold mine from austria and its trade node Rheinland isn't the best so I usually just get Genoa as fast as possible and move my trade capital there but I just feel it's not that great of a strat since I'm still a new-ish player to this game

Does the fact that kilwa will rapidly get like 5-7, gold mines relatively quickly make the controlled gold policy more worth? Like I get why you wouldn't for 1-2 but 5-7 surely the 75% inflation reduction would be worth?

It's worth in general, since the reduced depletion chance makes it worth to dev gold nodes to 15, which makes up for the lost goods produced.

I love playing Kilwa. One of my favourite nations in EU4. Also, I usually convert to Ibadi for the goods produced and high legalism (since there is no other Ibadi nation around aside Pate). Also, the merchant conversion centre is very OP for merchant Muslim nations.

I turned Kilwa into a pirate nation. Kinda nice as you get the nice benefits of being a pirate republic and you avoid some nasty Kilwa events. Early expansion is slowed down though as you need to give away your mainland Africa provinces (Everything that is not an island + coastal).

i made trade cities from start on north. go colonize strategy made colonize born from solfa and after few years im already rivaled vs portogues :o even fun start mission tree is lacking so much things for late game

10 production in gold is no longer a hard cap since depletion chance was patched. Expected gold return is now strictly increasing with dev, and you get non-zero depletion chance unless you're down to 1 dev. So there is no need to actively avoid getting over 10 production.

Hi Hawk! I love your content, and watch all of your videos as soon as they come out. You're one of my favorite KZbinrs, and definitely my favorite GSG/Paradox streamer. I love all of the series you do, and your guides are really great. Thanks a ton for making a great channel! I did also want to let you know that I'm leaving the Discord server. I'd send this on Discord, but you're not taking DMs there. Over the last month or so that I've been there I've just ran into too many far-right jokes and talking points, and so many of the users there have far-right dogwhistles in their profiles for me to feel comfortable on the server. You seem like a reasonable guy, but the Paradox community is unfortunately full of fascist apologists, and it seems like a decent amount of people on the Discord fall into that. Things like "my pronouns are 'I hate gays'" or "pronouns: nig/er" as well as general far-right buffoonery in some of the chat spaces. Moderating the Discord is probably not worth the effort it'd take to clean that stuff up, and I know your focus has got to be making cool videos. Just thought I'd let you know that I'm leaving the server and why. Still love your channel and support your videos. Thanks for reading this.
