Physically south america isn't closer, but due to currents and winds it's a shorter trip by boat, which is why it's in your range

In most games Burgundy is the one subjugated by either Austria or France, so what I think you should do is either PU or Vassalize both Austria and France.

Since Butua was historically a Kingdom in Zimbabwe and Zimbabwe is known for its gold you should conquer all gold provinces in Africa. And yes, I know this is a stupid idea.

Hey Red Hawk, you should get the "You Suck, and I HATE you!" mod. It replaces all scornful insults with "You suck! And I HATE you!" And it's Ironman compatible. It's just really funny.

Colonial range take into account prevailing winds and currents. That's what those little green arrows on the colonial range map represent. Basically, when you're sailing south from Europe, you hit the Canary current, which hustles you south along west Africa, and then you catch the North Equatorial current westward to the Caribbean Sea. Trying to straight-shot across the North Atlantic takes you AGAINST the North Atlantic Drift and the Gulf Stream.

I'm from Brunswick and sadly it is poorly represented in EU4. Brunswick is really rich in culture, the buckingham palace is heavily influenced by the brunswick palace and brunswick was very important in the napoleonic wars

They were also pretty wealthy because of silver mining in the Harz mountains. In EU4 they represent this with a iron province while the silver mine in Tirol is represented as gold. Seems very consistent to me..... (Probably Germany having as many gold mines as Mali seemed too much for the devs, but it's still strange)

Butua starts as a vassal of Mutapa... seems pretty tough. Butua also starts with gold in its capital... seems pretty easy. How about try to invert this by vassalizing Mutapa while not directly owning any gold provinces? Giving away gold provinces will also make it easier to acquire that elusive bankruptcy.

Instead of sending troops to the new world, you can just hire mercenary companies (preferably the free company or some cheap one) in your incomplete colony. Much easier and far more convenient, if a bit more expensive.

Brunswick is very fun. When i did play them last time, in patch 1.32, i formed hanover, then i formed prussia and then germany :) But i dismantled hre way later, i didn't really bother allying all electors. Nice game, gg

Brunswick is great, it is near the Lubeck node and actually most of its neighbors are weaker, it has decent ideas for the hre and for a possible imperial game (prestige decay, diplo rep and relations) and is the best candidate to form hannover, that imho is a very underestimated formable

South American isn't "closer" but the currents of the Atlantic directly head to the Caribbean. The Triangle Trade that Europa has is pretty accurate in game, imagine the flowing current like a gigantic lazy river that heat towards the equator then cools from the northern pole. Way easier to travel. Its why the colonies (not just England's) had so much power so quickly on a geopolitical scale because of the slave labour cheaply that built up the foundations of many nation in the new world in what would probably be valued in today equivalent worth of up to trillions of dollars. Said slave labour provided from Africa that from thereon sold crops like sugarcane and other "luxury" food items to Europe. If the flow of the Atlantic was anti-clockwise, well Europe would most likely have lingered in new world politic from far far longer with much more control.

The reason why those south american provinces always end up being colonizable earlier than north america is the mid atlantic current- ships can go farther making use of the current, and those two or three provinces are right at the mouth of that current!

Since 133 'France' update native tribes in the new world are much more aggressive against your colonies I find so far, so too your own colonies will be more agressive as well, however as the colonial master you can't seem to join them in their defensive wars very easily especially if the native tribes have declared a religious crusade, can't really join war against them for your hard pressed colony unless you no CB them back! Your own colonies can't be your ally & you can't guarantee them either. New Brunswick was lucky it wasn't a big alliance in their 1st fight TBH.

@@Arne_Jacob Ah, yeah THANKS, I wasn't doing that right, looking at 'Enforce Peace' without a Free Diplomat; also forgot to click the country shield of my Colony to nominate it to join against the Native attacks, or reading the 'NO' line as a hard no! FIXED, cheers! However I can't help out my poorly performing Colonies when they make DOWs themselves as the attacker, which they are doing more of & they really fight badly atm agaisnt any natives greater than an OPM! The other issue is the travelling time of my Diplomats too.

@@SaulKopfenjager Only thing that'll really help with that is sending lots of money to your colony in subsidies, but even then it's a crapshoot if they can actually fight back or not... My recommendation is being really aggressive with fabricating claims and declaring on natives yourself, the faster you can feed the colonial region to your colony the better they'll perform in their own wars.

@@Arne_Jacob Yeah, but gifts of money & subsides don't seem to work 100% when my colonies pin ball their troops between two half their sized tribal native enemies at opposite ends of the streach or cresent shape of their country along 3/4s of the coast of Australia; or they don't pull back one half of their army from the bottom of South America to fight an OPM in Canada with an equal size numbered army trashing their 'new' homeland; sheesh!

To save your Colonies in an offensive war they have initiated themselves, but seem to be losing, you as the Colonial Master HAVE to Declare War on the Native target using their claim from your Diplo screen, not in the Colonies Tab. You could also revenge them back & Declare using their cores later too, that they gave awaywhen they lost...
