Yeah, I agree with you, it's really annoying that the zone of control from forts NEVER affects the AI you are at war with, but it affects your allies.

It seems that hostile AI ignores it for some strange reason. It seems that their hunter stacks just ignore it for some strange reason.

René S He can obviously walk through his own forts. Your point is invalid. The Hostile AI shouldnt be able to walk through Berlins fort completely. Stettin being mothballed doesnt make a difference to Berlins zone of control.

I'm playing a game as Sweden and Denmark just walked right through my forts in Smaland and Stockholm across the straits to Finland. I still managed to keep their army distracted for long enough for English and Scottish reinforcements to arrive, but it was pretty frustrating.
@joel61138 жыл бұрын
The Emperor perma-military access breaks zones of control. I was really hoping this would be fixed, but it wasn't. You see, when Forts were first a thing, people got mad about the winding paths their allies would take to get around forts. Paradox fixed that by allowing their armies to take the normal/fastest path as long as any path to that province exists. The problem is that if you are in the HRE and the emperor is in the war, everyone has military access everywhere. So there is almost ALWAYS a path around your forts, which means everyone can just go around. Because it is possible for them to go around, they don't actually NEED to go around though - they can just ignore the fort. Your forts basically don't have a Zone of Control if you are in the middle of the HRE and the emperor is in the war. EDIT: Should have mentioned: This pathfinding cheat is only for the AI. You still need to go around.

Arumba in case you've been reading these comments, please ignore the people telling you to restart. It's far more entertaining to watch you struggle and manoeuvre than it is to watch you steamroll. You've already done plenty of series' where you just kick ass. I want to see you turn this around :) edit: Just saw the end of this video, completely understandable rage there. The fort system is a nice idea that just isn't working as intended yet. Please keep this series going if you can mate.

I'll go ahead and speak for the other side of the coin. I far prefer watching Arumba destroy the AI. This is the guy that taught me most of what I know about this game. I like to see him succeed because it teaches me how I can improve my own gameplay. IF Arumba is going to struggle, I'd also prefer it to be because he's attempting something particularly difficult and not because of errors.
@DaeLh8 жыл бұрын
I really enjoy watching Arumba play because he's very... "not acting for his crowd". But I have to say, I only watch the series that I know he wont steamroll in from day 1. Anyone can start as France and kick ass, but not everyone can manage to conquer all of Germany with Nagaur or Theodore.

zone of control should be easy to implement. every fort flags every province around them as "in zone of control" if a troop is on a flagged province with an enemy fort next to it, they can only move onto any of the enemy forts or come back from where they came.

I wonder how the Fort logic is implemented. Perhaps there is just one slot/province for fort ZoC which could explain some of the weirdness.
@2lab5578 жыл бұрын
I think ZoC is checked when the move is ordered but when the AI sets an army to chase another army (which that player can't do) it fails to check ZoC. This would explain why little armies derping about obey ZoC while French killer stacks storm strait through your forts..

When I play as emperor of the HRE I only demand unlawful territory if it recreates a nation. Just having someone return a province in and of itself doesn't really do anything worthwhile (IMO) and costs a great deal of relations with the nation that gets hit with the demand. The big downside is that with my method every time there is a potential DUT pop-up you have to go to the individual province and make sure that the province being released was owned by a nation that no longer exists.
@rayaasl8 жыл бұрын
He's had and enormous luck with a weak Poland - it still doesn't own any territory in Prussia, Mazovia is free and it's getting wrecked by Muscovy. Poland could have easily blocked him from expansion and he wouldn't have been able to do anything about it because he is so weak. Instead of using this chance, he did jack shit for 40 years. A weak emperor fighting France, with no income to support an army, missed 30 years of aggressive expansion ticking down, didn't even try to get the BI - seriously? The Tunis campaign was very entertaining because he was incredibly aggressive and just driven. 16 episodes of fighting Trier's wars are definitely not. Keep the tall play in CK2.

Good stuff arumba! I totally agree with you about ZoC bs, but I *think* that it's a problem with forts that are next to each other having competing ZoCs causing bad behavior. it's been like near on a year that this has been wrong. ZoCs and forts were a great idea, but implemented horribly.

It's Amazing: - why castillans aren't ignoring Berlin and turn around? - why the french are going to Stolp and not directly to the army? Why they are respecting the Stettin's ZoC rule if they are jumping Berlin ? I think it's not a cheat. I think there is some reason. And I respectfully think than mouvement is bad repeated at épisode 17 beginning.
@flamingbull34388 жыл бұрын
From what I've played I would assume they could move where you were, it was one province past the fort. They can't go any further than that, right?
@Tezeran8 жыл бұрын
"A zone of control restricts the movement of enemy armies through the province with the fort, and provinces immediately adjacent to it. After an enemy army enters a province within the zone of control, they can only move from there to two other provinces: the province containing the fort, and the province they came from. This means that forts form a barrier against enemy armies; if placed so that there's no way around the fort(s) the enemy is forced to siege one or more forts in order to get at the rest of one's country." from: www.eu4wiki.com/Land_warfare#Zone_of_control
@joel61138 жыл бұрын
Once they move into the fort's Zone of Control, they can't move into ANY province except backwards or onto the fort. They need to get military access and take a long route to get there. However, to avoid awkward long pathing issues, Pdox made a change - if you can get to a province past a Zone of Control through ANY path, no matter how long, you can just walk straight there instead. So in this case, because it was possible for France to walk the long way through Bohemia, he could effectively ignore the fort in Berlin. The fort in Stettin didn't work either because it had 0 garrison or because Arumba had mil access through Poland. I'm not sure if 0 garrison forts project ZoC, and I'm not sure if he had mil access through Poland, but I would guess one of those. (Disclaimer: Forts are weird and I'm not entirely sure about the mechanics. I've played in the HRE enough that this is one I'm relatively confident on.)
