I believe Latgalia, Karelia, and Sápmi are the only new releasables (Karelia and Sápmi now have cores in 1444; they were revolter tags before). And espionage is actually pretty pog now: favor accumulation, chance to capture ships, AE impact reduction, advisor cost reduction, and siege ability are all great, and being able to quickly spy and cheaply fabricate claims is really good in the HRE.

@@Xictlii They took the flag from the modern region, the coat of arms is virtually the same, which is fine since it's bloody difficult finding pre-crusades flags or flag-alternatives. I'd say don't change the Livonian colour, it looks nice and there's no "more appropriate" colour due to it being so alt-history. Latgalia's brown is the only thing that needs changing.

Latgalia replaces Latvia as the Latvian primary nation. Karelia and Sápmi both received cores in 1444 in this update. Those are the only new ones I’ve seen so far. Enjoying this series a lot

@@jormun Which would be incorrect, since majority of the urban population and the surrounding countryside was inhabited by Finns. There's accounts from the early 1600s, where Östland (Finland), and even Turku, are written as these foreign and barbaric places by officials who went to govern there from the Swedish "mainland". The first governor-general of Finland and the first president of the Court of Turku, Nils Turesson Bielke, resigned from his position of governor-general due to, among other things, not knowing Finnish. He also viewed Finland as a barbaric and foreign place, which is probably why he didn't learn the language. The Bishop of Turku, Isaacus Rothovius, wrote that during his time in Finland, he perceived himself to be "surrounded by barbarians and scorpions". Swedification of the nobility and local population didn't become widespread until the 1700s, although it did take place before on a lesser scale. There's also the issue of how Swedish documentation worked and identifying who was "Finnish" or "Swedish" linguistically and culturally. Western Finns didn't have their own old surname system, unlike eastern Finns, so son/daughter surnames were widespread like in Sweden, but those surnames were in a Finnish form in day to day life and in informal situations. Swedish documents however translated these names into Swedish, for example someone named Maununpoika would be Månsson in Swedish documents, even if they spoke Finnish as their primary language and went by Maunupoika instead of the Swedish version their entire life. It also didn't help that previously native Finnish first names were also being replaced by Latin/Christian derived names.

20:58 You missed Ming when counting since you can't see them yet so they're not on your ledger. There could also be more nations you can't see that have more dev than you. Bahmanis, Vijayanagar, Timurids etc. I couldn't think of a certain way to determine if you're a "real" great power when you can't see everyone. Maybe count institution penalties as well but make your goal to be top 3 great power (or 4 or 5 or...) there would be no hustle determining then. :)

For me this patch the Burgundian Succession seems to happen within 10 to 15 years every campaign now, just like in this playthrough of yours as well. I did the "Crossing the Finnish Line" achievement already a year back but just recently got back to playing as Finland. If starting "properly" by playing as Finland from day one the start is so RNG heavy that expect multiple restarts to get the conditions right (good rivals for Denmark i.e. no Poland or Muscovy but still enough for Sweden to win and high initial liberty desire for Sweden). I wrote a short recipe for how I currently start the game off, the goal is to knock out your three neighbours (Sweden, Novgorod, and Muscovy) within the first 20-30 years so that you are safe and can start focusing on snowballing. This is pretty much cut&paste from my comment to another Finland video on KZbin: Nowadays declaring Finnish independence is easier as you can do it while Sweden is still fighting Denmark but it's best to wait until that war is close to being decided so that Sweden doesn't collapse before you can break free. The Swedish declaration should happen somewhere around 1452-1455 or it will probably never happen and you get re-annexed. This has been my recipe for getting the Finnish snowball going from 1444: 0. Your first three wars will probably be Sweden, Novgorod, and Muscovy in quick succession, so always prepare for the next one ahead of time. After those three wars the player's paths may diverge depending on opportunities. 1. Immediately start spying on Denmark and Novgorod (hostile trading in Novgorod and Lübeck helps a lot), from Novgorod claim the Priozersk and Karelia provinces, you get claims for the rest from the first Finnish mission. Set focus to Mil so that you get quality troops early. Probably not worth hiring a Mil advisor yet, unless you get one for half cost. Your starting ruler will almost always get replaced by Sweden around 1449 so don't put too much faith in whoever you had at the start. You may want to bank up on some Admin points since the independence declaration tanks your stability and you need to get it back up quite quickly. 2. Claim everything you can from Sweden, don't build any forces or anything as your economy will immediately tank (1-2 troops max for point 3 below) 3. Denmark may declare on Novgorod, in that case you might want to have some troops to seize the claimed provinces for Sweden, otherwise there's a good chance Denmark takes them and you will get them much later 4. After spying on Novgorod immediately start improving relations with Poland, you will need them to beat Muscovy early on. If Lithuania breaks free Poland will probably not help you much against Muscovy. In that case try to get Lithuania to help you, although without Poland beating Muscovy will be more difficult (unless you allied Denmark and they will assist) 5. Once Sweden declares on Denmark optimally you don't do anything so that any Swedish allies have to work harder and get more war exhaustion, you only step in if it looks like Sweden might lose. Try to wait until that war is almost done and Swedish allies will not participate, although with a morale/discipline mil advisor you might still beat them anyway 6. Build your forces to force limit (which should be about 10) prior to declaring on Sweden so that you get the Finnish first mission and immediately hire the Hakkapeliitta, they hit really hard. You also need liberty desire above 50% to declare so the troops count helps. These 10+4 troops should be enough for the first three wars but it's always good to build up if your force limit increases. 7. Manpower is the biggest problem for Finland in the beginning, I suggest avoiding combat as much as possible and just siege down the Swedes with a single army, they should avoid it. Consider making your ruler a general unless he is godlike, him dying early may actually help you get your legitimacy up, which is probably low as Sweden replaced your ruling dynasty. 8. When the war is done instead of going for max land only take your claims + Stockholm and Dalaskogen. Take as much money as you can to pay off your loans 9. Ideally you end up with some land and no loans so you can take the next Finnish missions right after the war. Now ally Poland and potentially Denmark, start currying favors with Poland 10. Release Sapmi from Kainuu and immediately declare on Novgorod with reconquest CB (or your claims if Muscovy has already taken the Sapmi provinces). If Sweden took the Novgorod provinces you can also release Karelia from them already now. Again try to get at least some money to keep your economy afloat. You may want to leave the Karelia province for Novgorod and surround it so that Muscovy cannot full annex them. If Novgorod is weak enough it may be possible to vassalize them but I haven't seen it 11. After the war you could release Karelia if not done before to get Strong Duchies, then start preparing for war with Muscovy 12. Immediately when Poland will join declare on Muscovy, have them do the heavy lifting but try to siege down the fort in Novgorod and take the shore provinces. With Poland (and hopefully Lithuania) you should win unless you get greedy and split your forces so Muscovy eats them 13. When Muscovy is beaten remember to take the Novgorod province to prevent them from forming Russia. Once you vassalize Novgorod they have a lot of reconquerable provinces so there's no need to take huge tracts of land 14. By this point you should be comfortable and start picking your next targets. Livonian Order should be easy if Muscovy didn't already eat them. Keep an eye out for the Danish truce timer so that you can declare on Sweden before they do, otherwise they might take land that belongs to you (which you will get back later of course, once you fight Denmark) 15. If going towards the North Sea you will probably want to vassalize Norway and through Norway take the Lothian/Aberdeen provinces from Scotland. This will prevent England from forming GB militarily and give you a beachhead for fighting them later but may not be realistic if Scotland calls in France and you don't get England or other France's enemies to beat them down. You can of course take the Norwegian isles yourself to reach Scotland, but Norway is a useful vassal as they can colonize if they are in range of Canada. Beware not to anger England too much in the early stages, though. They may be useful allies to counter the Danish Naval power. With this path Finland should be a great power after about 30-40 years (assuming you devved up renaissance, of course) and from there you go where you want. I might suggest Quantity as the first idea group since your troops are good enough but there's not a lot of them. The manpower recovery helps a lot in the beginning as you will need to put down a bunch of rebels as well.

I tried Finland just 2 days ago. Had to restart a handful of times because of failed independence wars. But once I succeeded with that it was more or less a regular playthrough. I had a few scary wars with Muscovy/Russia (with their Ottoman ally). Stacking attrition modifiers makes you feel a lot more safe. I went defensive as my first idea group and it worked out very well. To get the last mission you can just conscript a large amount of troops temporarily to reach 100k.

Subject nations can declare an independence war even though their overlord is at war. They changed it since 1.34. and if you would keep your generals in the army they would die faster. İf you are not at the war just don't use them at all.

Espionage did just get buffed and honestly it’s pretty solid. You can potentially get more siege ability than offensive with quicker spy networks and the advisor discount is pretty nice not to mention the -20% AE. They also have nice policies with some of the other more popular ideas. Definitely not as bad as it once was. Imo expansion and exploration need to be stronger. Colonies never make as much as you invest into them.

So, by default, Player can declare war of independence ANYTIME. If they're at war together with overlord, they'll just leave that war and start their own war against overlord. In previous patch, AI will not declare war. They can but they won't, sort of situation. In this patch, they can and they will. Devs also said that Timurid able to prolong and even prevent the collapse by being at war all the time is kind of cheesy so they change the AI to be able to break away.

honestly when starting as finland for the finish line achievement u DON"t wanna ruin Sweden. You need Sweden to fight Denmark, and during the war its time to strike. Not training regiments is not only good for your eco but it will also halt Sweden from declaring war, most of the time. So training troops when you are ready or nearly ready (5 years passed) is benificial. I said you don't wanna fck over Sweden, well you can still dev finish provinces 4 times on day 1, and getting sweden to a low crownland doesn't really fck sweden over but it makes your situation a lot easier. As low crownland will result in higher liberty desire, and for this strat you need at least 50 if you want to declare during a war. This war is still kinda tricky as you assault Sweden, Sweden will become also weaker in its own war against Denmark. So keep a close eye to that war, if denmark peaces out Sweden before you. Well you are fcked. Waiting till Sweden is independent, is usually not a good strat as sweden in general will have 2 - 3 strong allies that will stay. In general during the Swedisch independence war there are windows where allies like poland won't join. Poland/Hungary/Muscovy are countries u want to avoid fighting. England is hard but doable. I see red hawk got muscovy to back him up, that is pretty rare. Over 5 play throughs where i tried this and Muscovy never rivaled sweden accept once and that one time he still wanted my lands so no could do.

You can't see nations which you didn't discover in ledger so there is a chance that some nations in India are bigger in terms of dev than you. You even saw that ming have 1k dev in greats power list but you didn't saw them in ledger :d

This campaign raises a few questions when it comes to the secondary goal of this series per nation: what does it mean to annex the overlord. There is the obvious question of "should the nation be full annexed only, or should it be owning all of its starting cores? What about any that they don't start with?". One new question, which might be relevant sometimes, is "should any/all starting subjects also be annexed or not?". Now, for a subject releasable, there is the added layer of "should the subject's overlord be annexed as well? What about other subjects of the ultimate overlord?". This is in reference to Denmark and Norway here

i am real here, finland is super fun but its NOT hard ... its subjectivly easy in this dlc to play as finland i honestly think they are one of the eastiest releaseables with the super powerful missiontree and easy independence support
