I know people love to pretend to forget about it, but in the early years of EU4 you can't actually adjust taxes, can't mothball your forts, have no estates, and all provinces have fixed taxes for the rest of the game. Give it some time, CK3 will have it's own simple economy management later. At least that game excel at what that game best to do, roleplaying.

Always gotta remember the games are aimed at different things. CK3 is supposed to be about characters, their dynasties, and roleplay not really about economics. Though I am guessing with whatever DLC they do to bring back republics will also do trade. HOI4 is military and strategy build-up and then a few compact years of combat down to a micro scale with two to three big factions beating at each other. EU4 has a focus at the country level like HOI4 but, because it is over such a long period economics plays a bigger role and is a part of a country/empire building game. Anyone who wants a game that combines EU4 and CK3, PDX tried that it was called Imperator and it didn't work very well.

It does make sense tho. EU4 simulates the socioeconomic transition from feudalism to capitalism in a procedurally more globalized economy (which focuses on welath accumulation). CK3 simulates feudalism which was a system concerned primarily with feeding and protecting the people rather than currency exchange. Trade did not flourish in the Middle Ages, therefore Paradox has no reason to construct a complex system to simulate it

Trade was very important in the Middel Ages. A lot of cities operated as trade hubs and consequently became very rich in medieval times. Ghent (and Bruges as well) was for example one of the biggest cities around the 11the century and became extraordinarily wealthy through trade of whool and linen. You should note that this expansion of economic power in the low lands (and especially the county of Flanders) was one of the reasons why later on the Burgundian dukes, when they inherited Flanders, almost rivaled the power of the king of France (and could act so independantly from the French king).

Absolutely true. Crusader Kings' economy is at the level of a neonate, although Europa Universalis' economy is also easy. In fact no Paradox game is very difficult, in fact they are very easy. The hardest economy game I tried once was Diplomacy, that game is very complicated but because of all the management you have to do. These games are more about micromanagement, but like all games, once you get the hang of it, anything is possible.

@@jizznuts Most kingdoms are not that big actually. And some are quite small and fit nice borders: Ireland, Britanny, Navarra, Sri Lanka... They also usually have their own culture. If you get good leaders with the middle branch of both Learning and Stewardship perks you get very strong bonuses to development and cultural fascination. In a few generations you can become more powerful than west francia and HRE combined if you focus on economic (tax and dev bonus) and 1 type of men at arms (I used to go for archers but their numbers and attrition make me wonder if heavy stuff would be appropriate)
