Hopefully as the video processes more, the Quality increases to 720 P and the brightness restores. For some reason, this and another video I uploaded tonite have pretty cruddy visual quality compared to the raw file.

Eubie was why I play the piano. I saw him on the television when I was 15 years old (1973ish) and said to my Dad that that is what I want to do. He told me to study and get a job. I was probably one of the few 25 year old who cried big tears when he died. Then I met his protege' (Eubie wrote the forward to his book, This is Ragtime) at a music workshop. There was a book of Blake's work transcribed. At breakfast with Terry Waldo the transcriber and teacher, little did I know who transcribed the works. Terry and I have been long friends ever since. The book? I have been working from it for 10 years. The wing span of Blake makes me wonder if I should go old fashioned and have my fingers broken to make the reach. uh...no. But what I have learned working from this book gives me all sorts of fills and textures in my playing I would have never ever had. Available on Hal Leonard "Sincerely Eubie" at the time of publication was the only transpositions of his work. You can catch Terry Waldo on youtube as well. Happy playing!!

Che bella tecnica pianistica che aveva. Dita piatte e corpo inclinato in avanti di circa 45 gradi. Grazie a Sugar Bear Mosher che ha postato questo video che resterà come documento storico prezioso.

I am waiting for the video to hopefully improve in quality...I may possible have to reupload this, just an FYI. I want to make sure that the film quality is as top notch as it can be. I am glad that even this makes people happy, though!

Eubie Blake was a real legit pianist, look at his arpeggios how crisp they are as a old man ,he was also quite a composer and musician. . I remember talking to him and it took me 50 years to understand what he said,he said that fats waller played like a white man. I couldn't get that because to me fats had the best rhythm of all stride pianists, but eubie ment something different,he ment that fats used less rhythmic figures in the right hand ,and more melody.then lest say j p Johnson or the beetle Henderson..and still fats had the best rhythm,I asked eubie who he thought the best pianist was,I was just a kid at the time,,he said one leg Willie Joseph,I said better then morton...he said, better then Tatum . I t was a honor to have met him ...

I envy your experiences. I recently listened to a interview of Peter Ballance who recently passed apparently Donald Lambert did not like Fats because of his playing in F often? And Lambert also claimed elsewhere that Fats stole his melody and turned it into "Clothesline Ballet"

Thanks. He always claimed he was born in 1883 but most historians say it was 1887. Either way, he was amazing for his age!
