Bono actually said in an interview “The song is a bit twisted, which is why I could never figure out why people wanted it during their weddings. i think it’s about family, but i can see how it can apply to any relationship. we are all imperfect and have probably been on both sides of this equation. either the one seeking resolution in a relationship or the one resisting - making the other crawl. we each have the moments when we can carry the other or be carried by the other. it’s such a finely crafted song that cuts deep to both sides of the equation. regardless of which side of this equation you are on at the time, this song can speak deeply to you
