Boxers always lost as they could not defend leg kicks and manage the kicking distance. Strickland find a way to use the Philly shell and put on a pure boxing clinic against the supposed greatest striker MMA had ever seen, dictated the pace, pressure, manged distance and totally shut down Izzy at his own game. One of the great Chess matches I've ever seen....the small details and Sean's addiction to this game is what was the difference. Dude is sparring all day every day while Izzy is jerking off his dog and watching anime. ☠️

What he was doing was lifting them up to check and if Izzy didn’t throw the leg kick he would turn it into a body teep. I think those combined is the reason that Izzy had no answer to it. I don’t think it did much damage there was never much power in it. It just affected his rhythm.

No one ever said “Strickland has so many dimensions to his fight game”. But what he did against Izzy was a perfect fight for him.

No immediate rematch for Izzy please. He got the rematch vs Pereira as he defended the titles plenty of times. But this was his first title defence after regaining it and he lost 49-46. Make Strickland vs DDP. And make Izzy fight the winner of Costa vs Chimaev in a title eliminator bout. Let the division play out. Dont keep giving title shot to Izzy who is already super rich and on the cusp of end of his prime career !!!!!!

That was always the big question for me coming in to this fight. That wasn't an off night for Izzy. He is over rated. The contenders just stood in the middle.of the cage and let him do his thing. Sean had no respect, treated him as his equal and came forward. Izzy tried to grift the judges by doing all this movement because he just didn't have the skill to beat him. And I was really interested to see if he'd get an instant rematch. And sure enough he is.

Defense... I've said it many times... Izzy is glorified counter striker who throws faints to make his opponent charge and counters it for KO.. Even during his kickboxing career many have called him for it but in ufc any one who played safe with izzy has been called out for not engaging and fight getting boring... What happened? Izzy ran for 5 round trying to counter strike but Sean's unorthodox defense was to different for him to figure out... 😅

I said it was his only chance. Izzy does not function well under pressure. He relies on leg kicks to slow people down so they can't pressure him, and if you don't check those (Costa), you will eventually be forced to play his game. Izzy also doesn't fight well against men his height. Jan and Strickland are 6'2. Izzy is 6'3. The difference is too small for him to get away with his usual stylebending, which is basically just him finding awkward angles during a leanback to land hooks against shorter opponents. It's how he KO'd Rob and knocked down Gastelum. But he tried it against Strickland, and it didn't work, in fact he got countered, once in Rd2, once in Rd2, after which he stopped trying. Once he stopped trying, it was all over for him. Mind you, I'm not claiming to be a prophet. I didn't think Strickland would win as he can be a bit slow and doesn't have an insane chin. I figured he'd just kinda stand there the way he usually does and get picked off. But he clearly knew what Izzy's weakness was, which is pressure, and he exploited it masterfully.

The only time Izzy went forward was at the beginning of each round. He ran around the Octogon for 5 rounds and we could see he was tired at the end. The alternate univers Bareman was talking about is in his own mind. Izzy felt Sean's power early in the fight and memories of old KO's surfaced in his mind i'm sure of that because his facials expressions told the story afterwards. Now he knows he can be beat and so his invincible mindset is gone. I bet he will run even more in the futur.

I really think it's bad for the division if Adesanya gets an immediate rematch. He lost 2 out of his last 3 fights and Dricus was supposed to have the next title fight anyways, plus this wasn't a good performance by Israel like the first one against Pereira was (until the end of the 5th). Sean really schooled him tonight, he made Izzy uncapable of landing anything significant and he would've finished the job in round 1 if the bell hadn't saved him. Add Chimaev returning to the scene at middleweight (possibly winning against Costa) and you're definitley holding up the division by letting Izzy have an immediate rematch

Only option imo is for DDP to fight Adesanya, winner fights for the belt. Izzy being 1-2 out of his last 3 fights doesn’t deserve a shot right away. DDP shouldn’t fight for the title and plus Dana doesn’t like him turning down the Izzy fight so no chance he gets a shot

That's sounds about right.I think Izzy is a good matchup for Dricus, i would slightly lean toward Strickland though in Du Plessis-Strickland, even though i'd like Dricus to win.

What are you two saying, ddp beat Whittaker, he is number 1 in the world why does he need a title eliminator fight? If anything Izzy fight winner of Costa and Borz for title eliminator Or trilogy with Rob While DDP fights Strickland

Like many others were saying before the fight "It's going to be so one sided, Izzy is gonna destroy this guy" I think Izzy thought that himself, got too overconfident, tried to do what he did to Alex but Sean was too good with his defence and pressure. I think Izzy just straight up underestimated Sean.

I think it’s such a mentality thing, like, we all (majority) thought that Israel was going to do what he did to Costa, but the mental weight of fighting someone you are presumed to have more skill than is a HEAVY weight, because of how upsetting it would be to lose. Sean had nothing to lose, Izzy had everything to lose.

When has the Philly Shell ever worked in MMA? Sean pulled it off on one of the greatest pure strikers in MMA history. The Philly Shell typically only works standing still, Sean uses it to set up his offence while moving forward. Absolutely insane. It’s not like he’s throwing spectacular strikes, he took Izzy to school with the good old 1-2 and teep kicks. Give the man his props he outclassed Izzy through 5 rounds.

No!!!!! It was not an off night for izzy no!!! It's just that that sean had a better understanding of izzy's movement and game plan, and the most crucial thing was when sean dropped izzy in the first round that made izzy doubt a bit to engage!! No off night never, izzy was at his best

Izzy must have thought all the cringe lines he'd say on Strickland after the press conference. If things go wrong - Universe throw curve balls at you. If things go right - I Manifested this. In Izzy's words - That's a Cap on his character.

I feel bad for Blood Diamond (unfortunate nickname aside). He was a savage kickboxer, who was meant to be the next coming of the Izzy style fighter, and he can't seem to get it done at the top level of MMA. Really does show how tough this sport is.

@@StuffAndMemes for sure. Do you think some people get stuck in one style if they do it from an early age? I mean, standing across from someone must feel the same and give you the same vibes initially... and then they shoot on you and it's like everything instinctual is 'wrong'. I was excited for him coming in. I was joping for a more forward-going version of Izzy, which is what he seemed to be slated to be coming in.

I like Adesanya in general, even tho Im a big Whittaker fan. But No. Adesanya should not be granted a rematch just off of what he has done. He lost fair and square. Its time to move pieces in the 185 division. Dricus Du Plessis and Jared Cannonier should be in front of Israel Adesanya.
