What a load of rubbish. Only the SAP were deployed in Rhodesia in the 60s. The photo was a Rhodesian 25 truck with Rhodesian troops. The 25 only entered service in 1976 long after the SAP had departed, besides the SAP used their own trucks, mostly Bedford RMs. If you make those glaring errors there are certainly others.

Today's firemen , whom we paved a way forward , do not have to end up with a bad back because in 1969 I had to swing the engine to externally start such long ladder 1956 Dennis Fire Engine because of age and dead batteries , and thereafter respond after when it kicked into life , it literally kicked me flying when it suddenly took ... and the buildings were so bad in districtsix that i fell 2 to 3 floors inside a collapsed building looking for persons through flames inside a burning building which could,nt take the fire load .... yes that's what I,m talking about , not the fancy equipment that can be boasted about today. Anyway , my point is , if you do not love your fellowman, don't work there because it was a thankless experience. Your love for God and your neighbour must be in it.

Just a slight correction; when De Kock finished his national service and joined the SAP, he was seconded to the South West African Police where he was a founding member of the 'Koevoet' anti-insurgency unit on the Namibia/Angola border during the Bush War. This is one of the most interesting aspects of De Kock's life before Vlaksplaas. This unit was around 80% black and De Kock had an excellent relationship with his black colleagues. One, Lukas Kalina, even named his son after De Kock. This is an interesting paradox given the crimes he would go on to commit, including the brutal murder of a black 'Askari' who worked with him at Vlaksplaas.

A large number of ANC soldiers were killed or arrested shortly after entering SA from Moz and Swaziland. Interestingly, their commander at the time was Jacob Zuma. JZ had wanted to use Zulu MK members of his own but was forced to use other ethnic group fighters by his seniors. He was disgruntled about that and the grapevine has it that he was the one providing info to the Security Branch, and I'm thinking that's why Eugene is kept in comfort - in order to maintain his silence about the info he got from JZ. Why didn't JZ have him assassinated upon release? Because de Kock would have his memoirs revealing all deposited with a safe person to be published upon his death.
