I've been to the Eugene Stoner room at Knight's Armaments in Titusville Florida. In that room along with the first AR-15s, AR-10s, and Stoner 63 LMGs produced there was a mockup of the XM274 next to his drafting table. Along a wall in the room there was an automatic cannon that was to be sold to the Iranian Shah before his deposing.

There's actually a lot about this system that is very similar to the G11's operating system. It's interesting that so many designs during that time period were fooling around with telescoped/caseless ammo and rotating push-through breeches.
@mobiuscoreindustries3 жыл бұрын
Cause it's advantages are undeniable. It's downsides back then were not so clear. Don't get me wrong I think it still makes tremendous sense though I think it could work better if integrated into the concept of a cryogenic propellant cannon. You insert the projectile into the rotating cylinder as the back of the gun gets injected with the propellant. Once ready the projectile swings into place and the gun fires. This way you can separate the projectile and propellant in a configuration that allow both to prepare separately in specially designed compartments and you don't deal with the traditional issue of caseless because the cryogenic fuel cools down the barrel, reducing wear and preventing overheats.
