Eh I don't think that the PD and writers *asked him to act like that* because before he was on TV, he acted like that for fun even on some of the Vlives; he acts overly confident and stuff really often...but it's just a persona for laughs and for fun. I think most real NCTzens know how genuine and caring he is to the fans and the other members, but the persona is there for variety sense and make people laugh. This is the same thing for Jin and Yoongi from BTS regarding 'worldwide handsome' arrogance and 'savage Yoongi'...they're just personas for the public and most of their fanbases know this already.

But he got more and more confident the more he said it about himself and the more he heard it from his environment. He talked about it a lot in his early vlogs as a trainee. Even Jackson and Jun are not up to that confidence level Lucas is having, since they also are very self critical although they say about themselves they're handsome all the time. Lucas is just on another level of confidence and maybe it's because he's not a native Korean. To me he has this naive and pure innocence of a country boy like V and it's so endearing.
