Ali knows that rue hasn’t hit rock bottom, rue might think that she’s hit rock bottom but there’s a level below that and Ali knows that she needs to get there before she can get better which is why he planted the seed in the mom and sister‘s head to look out for themselves before Rue because she’s not done drowning yet
@VeniVinnieVici11 ай бұрын
I mean almost getting trafficked could definitly be a rock bottom moment.

@@VeniVinnieVici you’re not wrong. But if you spend enough time around alcoholic, drug addicts, and those with severe mental health issues, a lot of them say the same thing there’s always a lower place things can always get worse. All I’m saying is that I look at this specific scene, this specific dialogue as a hint written by the screenwriter saying “Hey, things are about to get much worse before they get better”

I think the point Ali was trying to make is that there is no such thing as rock bottom, it's an illusion, people can drown until they die before finding an end. By Rue not responding she acknowledges that she hasn't hit rock bottom cuz that isn't a thing for an addict. Rock bottom makes us believe that if we hit it then we can only go up, it's a false comfort that won't really help someone like Rue. As Ali has said before they are fighting a losing battle, they no option but to try hard to rise up.

because SHE isn’t there. the rue they are all wanting back isn’t sitting there with them. that’s a different person manifested through drugs and pain. whether they meant it in that way, that’s how i took it.

This scene will stay with me for the rest of my life I think. Hearing Ali talk to Gia about how she has the right to not believe in rue brought me an unreal amount of clarity. It really helped me with the guilt I felt for my heart and mind not being able to fully support a loved one's 100th attempt to get clean/ keep a stable job.

The toll addiction takes on the family/friends is beyond measure and constant stress. It’s hard to realize that you loving them isn’t enough. When you’re addicted to drugs, you would trade anything, even the most important people in your life just for that hit.

What I like is that Ali came in after that harrowing previous episode and introduced some levity to the whole situation. Even though Rue's situation is very dire it can be good to laugh in dark times to make you feel like it is possible to turn a corner and still be positive about your future. He also doesn't shy away from holding Rue accountable for how she is treating her family without judging or condemning her. He lets her know "your actions have had consequences for your loved ones, and they will have a bone to pick with you when the time is right. Don't think youre off the hook, but just focus on getting better for now."

Ali brought the family together in a way If it was just Leslie, gia, and rue together it would be arguing, screaming matches, and nonstop fighting Ali pretty much mediated the atmosphere with those three
@Fias69_5 ай бұрын
From the first take of the scene he keeps making fun of the heavy atmosphere around everything and makes the whole problem, even if it isn't, "lighter". Excellent actor.

Actually I think what Ali is doing is smart. i think he’s trying to get the family to stop supporting rue because he doesn’t believe she’s hit rock bottom yet. I believe rue won’t hit rock bottom till everybody around her stops enabling her behavior. Notice how he asked rue if she had hit rock-bottom and she never gave a straight answer. it’s a yes or no question and Leslie was the one that said yes.
