Thanks for the kind words, Jeff. I am so excited for you!! A week in the dunes, especially at this time of year, is nothing short of magic. We’ve been fortunate to stay in three shacks over the last five years, I I just got an email yesterday saying that we’d hit the lottery for Zara’s in September, and we’re once again over the moon! If you have any questions before your stay, please don’t hesitate to ask. And, of course, I’d love to hear from you after your stay. Welcome to the dune shack family!

Mark -- congratulations on your September stay! Thanks for the offer to answer questions -- and I will certainly touch base after my week in Euphoria. Getting pretty stoked!

Thank you for this wonderful tour of Euphoria. I was artist in residence at Margo Gelb in 1997, and stayed a week in Thalassa several years ago, so feel very fortunate to have won the Peaked Hill Trust lottery to stay in Euphoria this summer. Your tour is very helpful in knowing how to prepare for my stay! Great job!

Hi! I’m so glad that you both enjoyed the video and found it useful. You are absolutely going to love staying at Euphoria! All of the shacks are magical, but I think this one is particularly special. There are definitely many good spirits within those walls. By coincidence, I am currently staying at C-Scape right now. Like always, it has been an incredible first few days and the end of the week always seems to be coming too quickly. We will certainly soak in every bit of the remaining time that we have. I would love to hear from you after your stay at Euphoria and hear about your experience. I’ve made so many shack friends (more like family) over the past few years and always glad to add a new one. My email is mtruman42@gmail.com and I share on Instagram @mtruman42. Hope to hear from you!

@@mtruman42 Thank you! I've linked to your video in my newsletter and now follow you on instagram. Your photos are very beautiful. I'll let you know how I make out. Since we are both Rhode Islanders we will probably run into each other at some point if we haven't already!

I spent 10 days on an early Spring Break there with my girlfriend in 1972, I was 15 and she was 17. My best friends Grandmother is Hazel Hawthorne, Owner of Euphoria. It was my “Summer of 42” if you ever saw the film. My coming of age. 50 years later I’m still in touch with her on a regular basis. Can’t wait for her reaction as I just sent her the link to this video. So many wonderful memories of blossoming young love.

How wonderful! And what an experience to have at that age (or any age). I became enthralled by the shacks and and Hazel's story a few years ago on our first trip to Fowler. The following year we didn't hit the lottery and I had given up on a second week in the shacks, but the Monday after I retired three years ago I got a last minute email saying that Euphoria was available the following week. I instantly grabbed it and was fortunate to beat all the others to the punch. My partner Pam wasn't able to go so I spent the week by myself. It was the closest thing to heaven that I've ever experienced. I spent a good part of the week reading Cynthia Huntington's The Salt House, able to instantly visualize every word as I was sitting where it happened. I was even able to contact her by email while I was still out there and had a nice conversation that I'm convinced was facilitated by Hazel's spirit. We've been back to the dunes many times since then including a week a C-Scape this summer and several days just wandering the dunes during visits to P-Town. Every time I walk out there I feel the spirits and the magic around me. It's just so amazing. I plan to enter the lotteries every year from now on and stay in the shacks at every opportunity. I hope the you have a chance yourself again someday. I can only imagine the feeling that would bring after all these years. I'm so glad that you enjoyed the video and hope your old girlfriend does as well. Wishing you all the best. - Mark

@@Nobodyimportant3216 That makes me so happy! Hazel was an amazing woman. Getting to stay in one of her shacks was a dream come true for me. Hopefully I’ll stay in Thalass someday to get the full experience, but nowhere could be more magical for me than Euphoria!

@@mtruman42 this is great! I’ve been listening to the “Finding Hazel Hawthorne” podcast on Spotify to get more of a glimpse into her life. So amazing that after all these years, her legacy lives on.

Many thanks for this fine video -- I found and watched it shortly after learning I will be staying at Euphoria next month -- looks like it will be around the same time you filmed this. Needless to say the thought of being there is pretty damn exciting -- I've been trying for a week in a shack for 5 years, I think (COVID intervened at one point, of course.). I've shared your video with friends and family -- so great to be able to give them a sense of what it's like out there. Thanks so much again -- All my best --

Thanks so very very much for filming Euphoria! I was fortunate to get to stay there several times, via PHT, spanning some 20 years. Last time was in 2001 or 2002 w/ my Late husband Larry, After that, his health declined, and was no longer able to walk in the Dunes. Also had a chance to stay in Margo-Gelb (Boris) for a week in the 1980's. Preferred Euphoria. :-)

So glad you enjoyed the video, Grant! I've not stayed at Margo-Gelb yet, but hope to in the future. We spent a week at C-Scape the summer and it was wonderful. I'm hoping to spend time at all of the shacks eventually. Just nothing like that experience. Hope you are able to visit again as well. Cheers - Mark

wonderful tour. thank you so much. i grew up in an area very similar to cape cod--the quaint harbor towns and old fishing villages and miles and miles of shorelines butted up to sandy dunes. Over the last 100 years almost 60% of dune height has been reduced as a result of weather conditions (and i suspect of the incessant tourism). The memories of dune, shoreline, and wooden cabins and campfires are some of my fondest. In the same vein, the dune shacks of the cape, seem like artifacts of human habitation and of the land and water that shaped us. I hope all the shacks are preserved forever--I know alot of people care for them. We live in a time where the "cod" in Cape Cod have almost all been harvested, and what's been is a bit reduced to lobster rolls and LL Bean. It gives me great joy to know these shacks exist, through it all. 🐚Thank you, from Amsterdam🌷

Hi Elle - So glad you enjoyed the video. I've been going to Provincetown since the 1970s but just learned about the dune shacks a few years ago. They are such amazing places and I am so fortunate to have been out there both of the last two summers. They have survived pretty much without change since they were built in the '20s and '30s and are lovingly cared for now by the organizations that manage them. Sadly, they are not open this season due to the pandemic and it's hard to say when or if they will be again. I surely hope they are able to come back and I hope to be able to visit as often as possible in the future. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and memories. Stay safe and be well. - Mark

Mark Truman Hi Mark. I learned of the dune shacks from this video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpjCfYCcqdeIfac its from a really good mini film producer about sustainable living. You may know the man in this video. His family owns one of the shacks nearest to the ocean. It's a wonderful film. I hope the shacks open soon, as they also need care and company. I have never been to Provincetown, but am currently reading a wonderful book by Michael Cunningham called "Land's End: A Walk In Provincetown". It's both poetic and humourous. Be well! --Elle

Great video, thanks! I've stayed at the dune shacks in the past, but not Euphoria. This really gives a full picture. Anyway, I wondered whether you used your laptop sparingly or had a solar panel to recharge?

Hi Pam - glad you enjoyed the video! It was fun making it and it's always great to connect with other "shackles". I actually just had my iPhone and iPad and used a rechargeable USB power pack to recharge them. I brought a couple of the packs and was able to charge my phone every day and the iPad 3-4 times with plenty to spare. Worked out great!
