I agree Victoria. I think this may well have been the best action/love story of twentieth century cinema.

Great film. More of a love story than an epic, but still has some good battle scenes. A real clash of cultures and morality with the Christian knights, Pagan villagers and Friesian raiders...

Great battle scenes .Dean Stockwell and Richard Boone were just good as Charlton Heston.

Yes, the combat scenes were unsurpassed in 1960s cinema (and even for decades to come). Richard Boone and Guy Stockwell played their roles superbly-as did the rest of the cast. Willowy Rosemary Forsyth was perfect for her role'; no suspension of disbelief was required to imagine that the war lord would become obsessed with her!.

@@Iersoherrs I got Stockwell first name misspell his first name was Guy who played Heston younger brother. James Farantino played angry 😠 peasant who Heston stole his woman 👩 and was horribly killed by Boone after he gravely wounded Heston.

Love this film cause the director Franklin J Schaffner was a real genious in combining visuals with a story. Just go watch this film cause it really has action but also compelling mood and a story.. The director then made Planet of the Apes(1968) a few years later with Charlton Heston. That film is a masterpiece and is the best scifi movie of all time for me. Many movies tries to talk about social injustice. Planet of the Apes talks about everything wrong about human kind and manages to be an entertaining action driven film.

There used to be several KZbin uploads of this fine movie, a couple of which were dubbed foreign language versions. However, all of them have been enjoved, at least for now, due to "copyright infringement" complaints. I find this situation a bit surprising since I had not thought that copyright law still applied in 2022 to a 1965 film. However, it should be possible to get a DVD. I was able to purchase one which I have enjoyed many times. Every time I see it, I discover new details in the dialogue and camera work which always impress me.

[This movie really does acturately reflect the morals, primitive superstitions and social stratification of medieval society - in addition to being a terrific action movie and an entirely believable love story.]

Your commentary about the decline of paganism was very informative. I agree that the combat scenes were extremely well done. I was especially impressed by the acting by all members of the cast. Also, the costumes and camera work greatly enhanced the appeal of this film.
