That hand ball from Abel Xavier still hunts me to this day deeply in my memory together with Zidane scoring that penalty and Portugal being eliminated ...I was a child then and 20 years years ago i had forgotten about it and just before the highlights i saw Abel Xavier blond hair coming through i knew there was something painful regarding him Zidane and Portugal but couldnt quite remember what until i saw the highlights it all comeback. It's amazing the games between 🇵🇹🇨🇵, it always goes deep in extra time, are very equal and even confrontations. Always ends up dramatically.. It seems after 3 semis defeats, all in extra time, Euro84, Euro2000, WC 2006, the Portuguese turned it into their own hands after 2016 final. I predict 2 more revenges, and Euro 2020 group stage encounter may led to a semi final or final encounter again.. Remember, 2 more revenges will come to Portuguese side all in dramatic fashion as well..

In my opinion 2000 Portugal team was slightly better than 2004-2006 or 2012-2016 teams. 2000 was a pinnacle of their "golden generation" - Figo, Rui Costa, Paulo Sousa, Fernando Couto, Vitor Baia, Joao Pinto, Nuno Gomes, Jorge Costa, Sergio Conseisao, Costinha...How this team with all these players didn't qualify for 1998 WC is beyond me. It was a surprise, no doubt but they had qualified really well and had probably their best group of players ever, all in form at the right time, with a good manager. For that month, Greece were the best team in Europe.

Exactly. Seriously nowadays theres a complete lack of talent. The best players are taken by the top teams, unlike in the 90s 00s when you have great players in every team. Just look at the gap between top and bottom in the top leagues. The top teams are scoring 100+ goals, getting higher points easily each season. This just shows the extreme gap in quality between the teams that its not even funny.

Apparemment dans les vidéos le publicateur ne montrent que les parties qui larrangent. Dans ce match figo a montré toute sa classe et son talent. Funny thing about this match is that Abel Xavier had an excellent chance to put Portugal 2-1 ahead with 5 minutes to go after that header from Figo's free-kick, which would have probably given Portugal the win and made him the hero of the match, as opposed to the villain.
