@paul1979uk20003 жыл бұрын
That was it, England panicked quite easy and England should consider themselves luck that Italy didn't go all out on a constant barrage of attacks like they normally do because the England defence panics very easy when pressed. This wasn't a good performance for England as they had every advantage, playing at home, no real injuries whiles Italy had a few and yet England still bottled it, Italy on the other hand had injuries, a much tougher route to the final so likely were more tired and a hostile crowd to contend with, that is a lot more impressive for Italy than England. England on the other hand proved what most already knew, they look good on paper against average sides but the moment they play a top team that can play, they lose, it was Italy this time and it was Belgium in the last world cup, basically, England falls apart the moment they play a top team and no, Germany doesn't count because that German side is subpar at best and one of the worse in living memory.

Statistically England were nowhere near the best team in the first half, Italy had 60% plus possession and more attempts at goal in the opening 45 minutes. To say during the first half it was all England is stretching it when statistically they only had 1 attempt on goal and 30 something percent possession, I would suggest you rewatch the game with your eyes open and then re-make the video 😉 If we then go deeper and analyse England’s entire tournament, FIFA rankings say England's group was the 3rd easiest behind the Netherlands and Belgium while Italy had the second toughest group. Also of the 7 opponents played by the finalists, England's opponents have a total ranking of 151, Italy were England’s only top 10 ranking opponent at 7. Italy's opponents have a total ranking of 93 of which 3 of them were ranked 1, 4 and 6 in the world and even after that another two were ranked 13 and 17, they faced far tougher opponents. On top of that you can add that not only did England pretty much play fully at home but that over the entire tournament they actually conceded just as many goal attempts on their own goal as they created, it’s actually worse than that because they actually conceded more attempts than they created. Of the last 4 teams England’s ratio of attempts for and against was by a country mile the worst. Over the entire tournament, Italy on the other hand have created 3 times as many attempts at goal than England have managed despite having faced better opposition and have also concede less attempts on their own goal than England have managed again despite having faced better opposition. The point I’m making here is that it’s 2 tournaments on the bounce now were England have had a relatively comfortable route/passage which has contributed a lot to their progress in these two tournaments, the problem is that reaching the latter stages of a tournament often doesn’t tell the real story. A good team should be measured by how they fair when up against another quality team and in England’s case I’m afraid that they fair terribly, they fail to see off the bigger teams probably as many as 8/9 times in 10, they’ve done it for a very long time and they still do so today. By comparison Italy are like the opposite 8/9 times out of 10 they beat real opponents, their problem usually lies in turning up for those lesser games or at least it has been historically. That’s the difference here between a team that thinks it’s good and one that has actually proven it. I’m not saying England are rubbish, far from it, they have a decent team who with the right manager could really make a mark. But, as things are they are not as good as the circus surrounding them think they are. Regarding beating Germany, even here we are talking about a German team that won 1 game in 4 and played 3 of those 4 on home soil. Still a good win for England but lets be honest with ourselves, not the real Germany.
@lamberto64053 жыл бұрын
Exactly what I've been saying all along. Some experts stating that England was the second best team but I would have to strongly disagree. I think Spain, as badly as they played in the games before Italy were far better, along with several other teams. Italy had a tough route and still made it one way or another. Great teams do that! Chiellini grabbing a player by the back of the shirt and just pulling him down is not pretty but it gets the job done! Whatever it takes, Italy gets the job done with any opponent that comes up. Germany, Brazil, Spain, if they had to play against Italy or England in a final which one do you REALLY think they would pick. That will tell you a lot!!!
@dia6olo643 жыл бұрын
@@lamberto6405 "Germany, Brazil, Spain, if they had to play against Italy or England in a final which one do you REALLY think they would pick" I know exactly who they would pick, with the exception of Brazil who have had some joy against Italy the other two have a dreadful tournament record against Italy and it’s because as you say Italy know how to get the job done. Whereas on the other hand I know that both Brazil and Germany have a very good record against England, I don't really know how Spain have historically faired against them and again I'm talking about tournament football not glorified friendlies.
@jonsoler36483 жыл бұрын
Yeah, when the guy in the video said "a tale of 2 halves" I laughed. England scored at 2 minutes and did nothing for the whole rest of the game, they had 2 shots on target in 120+ minutes (one shot was the goal and the other was a missed cross that went straight into Donnaruma's arms and it was only counted as a shot on target because the ball trajectory went in the direction of the goal LMAO). England had an immense advantage over the other teams in the tournament: Playing 6/7 matches at home, the crowd at Wembley in home games had even fewer fans from opposition teams due to covid restrictions, UEFA banned Germany from training at Wembley in the Round of 16, they got the easiest draws in the tournament and only went to the final due to a ludicrous penalty given. UEFA gave England the trophy on a silver plate and they still didn't win. Germany has been declining, they were eliminated in the group stages in the World Cup 2018, got beaten by North Macedonia in the qualifiers for the next World Cup and almost got eliminated in the group stages again in this Euros as they almost got beaten by Hungary.

@@dia6olo64 Having lived in Brazil I can tell you people there don't rate England at all. @@jonsoler3648 'the strong team that doesn't scare anyone' I think you/they pretty much nailed it with that description, that’s exactly who they are. As regards records against each other bear in mind I’m talking about tournament football, the games that really count. For example, teams like England, Spain, Germany have a decent head to head record against Italy but not when it counts (tournament football) they haven’t, it is then literally fully one sided in favour of Italy, out of the 3 I think there's only Spain that's had 1 success in around 17 meetings and Germany a penalty shoot-out success if we want to count that one too. That said I know that England’s record against Brazil is just as bad when it counts.

He’s also tactically very astute. The truth is many of us often forget how important a manger is, we just see the players. Reality is that more often than not, teams win not individuals, often times “lesser teams” beat “better teams” because of one key fundamental difference, they are often much more of a team in the truest sense of all playing for the same cause pulling in the same direction and so forth. To underrate Italy is always a big mistake. When you play a final in worldcup or eurocup, every team bring on the pitch his history. And here the difference between ITALIA and England is very simple. ITALIA played 10 finals ENGLAND 2. ITALIA won away four times, 1938 Paris worldcup, 1982 Madrid worldcup, 2006 Berlin worldcup, 2021 London eurocup. England won away... NEVER won away. That's it.

Good comment but what about the head to head between the 2 teams in tournaments which have always been close games. Italy draws with England 0-0 in Euro 2012 and had to beat them on penalties. Same last year the match ended one each and we won again on penalties. The other 3 times we beat them was all by one goal. Tardelli scored the winner 1-0 in Euro 1980 and Italy won 2-1 in Italia 90 and beat them 2-1 in Brazil 2014 when super Mario got the winner. ALL OF THEM WERE VERY CLOSE MATCHES. My only criticism of both countries is why they cant find 11 players to play for them that are born in their own country. Two countries with populations of over 60 million people each and they have to field foreign born players from Brazil and Jamaica. England have a natural born scorer in Kane but Italy lack a consistent scorer since the days of Paolo Rossi. Where Italy lack a consistent striker they make up for it in team spirit which is what won the world cup in 2006 and the European championships last year. Thirteen goals last year was the most Italy has ever scored in any major tournament but 6 players got 2 goals each and the other one was an own goal in the opening match against Turkey.

Wtf? England scored at 3' but since the 15/20 Italy took the dominion for the whole game, humiliating England in ball possession and number of shots until the penalties. Pickford was good and he saved some goal, without Pickford the match should end in 2-1 or 3-1 for italians. Sterling and Kane disappeared thanks to Bonucci and Chiellini, Southgate send Saka to create counterattacks but he vanished too thanks to italian defs, and then send Rashford and Sancho for pens, and they didn't realize. It was a tactical and technical complete disaster for England, and a total and deserved triumph for Italy.

''the lad poured his heart and soul into every game we played''. How exactly? You mean by goalkeeping? Then you should feel bad for the goalkeepers who were actually robbed of a victory (Kasper Schmeichel, Hugo Lloris, just to name a few). The guy is a mediocre goalkeeper, who for most of the games stood with the England fans and chanted ''It's coming home''. Since your team was very fond of the infamous ''parking the bus in front of goal'' strategy, I'd argue that your players have saved more attempts than Pickford has. There's nothing to feel bad for on the England side, you guys were arrogant. Luckily karma is a bitch, and it came right back to bite you in the ass, because every road leads to rome.

@@theviceroyaltyofdenmark908 ‘you guys were arrogant’ what does that mean? You assume all 70 million UK citizens are assholes because of what a few hundred did? Pathetic. And we English have the civility not to call out the Italian or Indian bots making racist comments on Saka’s, Rashford’s and Sancho’s instagram or harassing the England instagram page, because we can move on and don’t dwell in the past. Unlike Italy, we are a very well developed country with little corruption and we have stuff to celebrate other than football, such as the start of the premier league, not the farmers league serie A. @theviceroyaltyofdenmark9083 жыл бұрын
@@ericcheltenham7001 I think you forgot that it wasn't italians nor indians who were racist towards your players, it was English fans. Examplified by the amount of hatefull messages that has been graffitied onto wall paintings of said players. Last time I checked there were 57k at the semi final and 60k+ at the final, of which atleast 50k of them were hooligans. ''We cone move on and dont dwell in the past'' is that why ya'll are still desperately clinging on to your only victory in a major tournament back in 1966, yeah so progressive. Let's not act like the England players are innocent. I dont recall ever blaming them for something that the fans did, that was an assumption that you made yourself to try and spin a very clever narrative. Not the case however. Yes, the english football fans are Cancer, I agree. Secondly, your team has ''dived'' the most during uefa euro 2020, which is an objective fact so you cant disagree. That includes the likes of Kane and Sterling. Superb effort is a strong word, how about we call practically being served a path the the semi finals. Your very convinient covid-19 lockdown made it so your team always had the homefield advantage, and made it so only people living in the uk could attend (9/10 proportions of english fans). Secondly, your team were in the easiest out of all the groups, and were up against a fractured German team and an inexperienced Ukraine team, during which all games except the final you had the same bias ref. Not as much superb as it is relying heavily on all kinds of advantages. Then in the semi-final you had to resort to dodgy acting talent to win (Pathetic). And in the final, you scored a lucky goal and then just parked the bus infront of goal, trying to wait a 1-0 lead out for 88 minutes. It was clear that your team wasn't as strong as the clowns surrounding it claimed, when you faced teams who were on your level (Denmark, Italy), in which you scored lucky goals, played dirty (Countless fouls) and parked the bus infront of the goal whenever you had a lead. Let's not pretend anymore, it's clear that you're still salty over the loss. And while it might not be every england fan who is like this, it's surely the majority who is. There's a reason everyone outside of England hates hooliganism, it's not just because there's a few hundred of them. Literally no-one but yourselves wanted you to win, lol.

Imaging if England had the same route that Italy had whiles playing many of it's games away from home, does any of us think England would have got to the final? I doubt it. Many teams like Italy, Belgium and Spain could have knocked England out if they faced each other, even Austria did quite well. England on the other hand had one of the easiest routes to the finals whiles playing most of their games at home, for me that isn't impressive and something we might see in the next world cup where England won't have home advantage and are likely going to face a top teams at some point in the tournament, in other words, England won't look like anything special, they only looked good here because of whom they played against and home advantage. Which brings us to another thing, England have had two major tournaments, the Euros and the last world cup with a dream route that most teams would love to have had and most world-class teams would translate that into bringing the cup home and yet England failed on both accounts, I mean, how easy and on the plate did England want it? for me, that tells me everything I need to know about England in that they are not a world-class team and are second tier at best, it's record proves that. So I doubt they'll do well in the next world cup unless they have another easy route which if they do, questions need to be asked about UEFA and FIFA, after all, what's the odds of getting 3 easy routes in 3 major tournaments? in other words, England's luck has likely run out, they've had the best chance the last two tournaments with it more or less being given on a plate and yet couldn't do it, how bad will they look if they have to face one or two top sides early on in the tournament?

Putting 2 "cold" players in to take penalties. That's not a good idea. I don't think Rashford or Sancho got a meaningful touch of the ball before they took the penalty. Putting Saka in as the 5th taker is also not ideal. He hasn't even taken a penalty before in any match prior to this. Having said that, which manager got England any closer to a major trophy than Southgate? None. And to dissect his decisions just because England didn't win is rather unappreciative. The English kept saying "Football is coming home!" when they have NEVER won the Euros. This shows how full of themselves the English are. Besides the anomaly of 1966, England were never close to winning. Brazil won the World Cup 5 times... Germany won it 4 times... Italy won it 4 times too... if football has a home, it will be one of these nations... England? Won once in World Cup... Also, the reason Southgate chose all those inexperienced players was simple: diversity. He wanted to shill a narrative that wasn't there, but it ended up blowing up in his face in hilarious fashion. That's it. England should even be considered lucky to reach the finals. Had they not played 90% of all their games at Wembley, they would have been humiliated easily.
