Euro 2024 Preview - France are my Favourites!

France have been one of the most renowned and feared opponents in the international arena for over a decade now. Heading into this one, many are tipping them to bring home the gold, as am I. England are their biggest competition, who will come out on top?

Idk man, I think the French defense is a bit weak, especially with the current form of a lot of their defenders. Their attack is possibly the best in the tournament so they’ll go far but I don’t think they’ll win it all.

This is France's tournament toulouse. After losing to a Ronaldo-less Porutgal late in extra time in 2016, embarassingly giving away a 3-1 lead to Switzerland in 2021, plus Mbappe missing a pen. I think they will finally come good and go all the way. France is my pick as well. 😀

Great Freudian slip there with the typo of Toulouse 😅 Yep, I agree though. 24 years since their last Euros triumph, I sadly think they will win it!

France are probably the biggest contender. They could field 2 elevens that could potentially go above the semi final stage. That being said, I always have the feeling that overconfidence can be a problem for France. I remember WC 2002, where France were European and World Champion and they failed to score a single goal and came bottom in a very easy group. Obviously I don't expect that to happen, but it has also been an issue with Deschamps in charge. In the 2016 final, I felt like France didn't properly press Portugal for a goal early on. I think they believed that a goal would come naturally. But by the late stages, the confidence and defensive organization for Portugal was difficult to break down (The Fernando Santos' special). In 2021, after France went 3-1 up, they just completely switched off and let Switzerland (not known for their offensive fire power) come back into the game.

@@juanjoseph I think that has nothing to do with anything I just said... Either way, I never bought into the narrative that France "employs" players from African national teams. Most French players were born in France. Some of them have African parents or grandparents, sure. I am cool with dual citizenship and players adquiring a nationality after a long period of time in a certain country. If you are born in said country, I don't think there's even a debate

if france and england both win their group (most likely) they will meet in de semi final, not the final. They only meet in the finals if 1 of them ends up 2nd in their group (or a weird combination of 3rd placed teams with england/france as one of the best number 3 teams)
