Euro banknotes first began to circulate in 2002.
There are 7 of them, ranging in value from 5 to 500 euros.
They are completely identical throughout the eurozone.
Their colours were inspired by the 7 colours of the rainbow.
And they illustrate 7 different eras and styles of European architecture.
On the front...
there are windows and gateways, symbolising the European spirit of openness towards the world.
On the back, there are bridges, which represent the connection that unites the people of Europe.
To enhance their security and make them even more difficult to forge, a new series of notes - even more sophisticated than before - has been developed.
Our banknotes will therefore become even more reliable!
