The memories... I played both ETS and ETS2, still playing ETS2, but thw first one... Maaan... It hits so different. I remember when it was impossible to find this game in Italy, and in 2010 I was extremely lucky to have a trip in Germany, to my uncle, and I've found ETS1 in a local market! Not even a Mall. I bought it right away, together with Landwirtschaft (Farming) Simulator 2009 Gold Edition! It was a blast!

ETS has certainly come a long way. I tried this game out a while ago and the physics felt terrible compared to ETS2 nowadays. It's funny though how the gas station design here 17:07 is still being used on the Calais-Duisburg road :D

you can tell this game was designed with 4:3 monitors in mind, because of how stretched 16:9 viewing is. even though it came out in 2008, when 16:9 monitors were more popular than 4:3

I must say that the modeled truck showroom is a really cool feature and I would love to see this implemented in ETS2, instead of the white room we have now

I think you meant re-implemented because ETS2 did have the modeled truck showroom you mentioned until it was canned in version 1.15 (if I'm not mistaken) for a simpler version you see today. I think SCS did this not only because it saves a lot of resources, but it also improved compatibility with mods by removing the truck limit in the showroom.

It's due to the lack of license for official usage. First official appearance for Scania in the SCS games was Truck and Trailers (TnT)

Begs the question, why they made ets2. I'm sure there some technical reasons and restrictions that prevented this version from being upgraded. But update the graphics, add some more trucks and you've got ets2, they're really not too dissimilar. Half of the textures, layouts, and models are still in ets2 today
