From Claudio Abbado to Pierre Boulez, from Bach to Verdi to Schoenberg, Nono and Stockhausen: A musical profile of the important milestones in his career, the musicians he has known and his varied repertoire.
Subscribe to EuroArts: goo.gl/jrui3M
There were several compelling reasons to make a film portrait of Maurizio Pollini: his immense talent as a pianist, his rare personality, his affability, intelligence and the desire he himself expressed to submit to this exercise for the very first time- probably because at the age of over 70, he felt that it was time to consent to a film portrait.
Based on an extended interview, the film also includes archival footage and excerpts from concerts and documentaries.
Original title: Maurizio Pollini, De main de maître - A musical profile of the famous pianist
Directed by Bruno Monsaingeon, 2014.

Saw him in Brussels when we were about 20. " Beestachtig goed" said my friends on the " Muziekkamp Jeugd en Muziek" in Genval. Very good, indeed. But music and politics must be separated, except for composers.

Why do you need to take mr pollini serious every piece he plays? My father does not take me serious when i swear but he doesn’t abandon me. Should a thump on the piano be taken so serious?

Not so long ago, I expressed my admiration for the Master for his wonderful, masterful playing, mature, full of life, enthusiasm and brilliance. A great virtuoso interpretation. I eagerly came back here to admire the Master, his wonderful playing, which provided us with so many emotional experiences, emotions, elation, inner strength and a sense of great beauty. Unimaginable sadness and grief overwhelmed me when I learned that he was no longer with us. It brings tears to my eyes and those who adored him. Disbelief... We have lost one of the greatest pianists in the world. His wonderful concerts remain... How difficult it will be to listen to them now, knowing that He is no longer there :( . His great talent will remain in the hearts of all of us. Rest in peace and keep playing for the Angels and those who have passed away...❤🕯🙏🎼🎹🙏🕯. ..I express my sincere condolences to his Family and loved ones .... Piotr Poland

So privileged to have met you finally through your music, your touch, your home grown and deeply nurtured passion for your instrument. What a gorgeous trajectory it seems, but we know the sacrifices and toil of such a talent. What a time you came up in and what relatives with extraordinary lives you had around you. What a truly great musical life you have had Sir, and have given out to the people of the world ,so generously with such heart and soul. Such a honour, and still such a mentor for us all. Thankyou so much. RIP X0

Meravigliosa intervista.

You recognize him from his unique sound : clear, with elements of glas, steel and wood. Stable tempi. Not more than what is in the text. We used to call that Roman clarity. He is immortal because there is no substitute for Pollini. Never will. He mentioned, among others, Walter Gieseking, which I find interesting .
