wow!... i'm currently following lectures on structural analysis and design 2 according to EC2 and i'd faced with challenge of how to go about problem solving; i'm on this channel inspired to go about with problem solving. Thanks sir. my only wish now is to have access to your hand written solved example problems in a pdf .

May I know why you use F c k instead of F c d [Design value of concrete compressive strength (F c d = 𝛼_𝑐𝑐 . F c k/ 𝛾_𝐶) as per EN 1992.1.1 2004 section 3.1.6]?

Hello Enea! In problem 2. Where comes the 0.567 from in 0.567 * Fck.

That dimension of the stress block comes from the designed strength of concrete: fcd = 𝜶𝒄𝒄*fck / γm = 0.85*fck/1.5 = 0.566667 * fck 𝜶 𝒄𝒄--- is a coefficient which takes account of the long-term loading effects on the compressive strength of the concrete. It is taken as 0.85 γm ---- material safety factor, 1.5 for concrete

The equation for the lever arm is in a simplified form. If you get this expression: z = d - 0.5 λx, z/d = 1 − 0.5 λ (x/d), if you make some further substitutions, you will end up with: z/d = 1-0.5α = 0.5 [1 -√(1-3k/η)] where : α= λ*x/d, and λ is generally equal to 0.8 η = 1 when fck
