Rockbreakers being able to sense your movements through the ground is literally an insane mechanic. And the fact that you can stand on a rock and throw rocks to trick them shows even more attention to detail in this incredible game

I think the same goes for the turtles, whatever their name is in the game - as they also burrow underground for a good bit of time during fights. I was so confused why it wasn't popping out when I just stayed still, until I realized what was going on :o Gotta say though, I *HATE* fighting Rockbreakers. End up fighting one somewhere where you can't get up on top of anything and there's no way to dodge their insanely wide sudden lunges, as Aloy's dodge rolls just don't cover the amount of distance to avoid a collision. My only real annoyance in the game at the moment, how some of the biggest enemies are so impossible to fight when their attacks are significantly larger in area than our dodges. Trying to run around and dodge physical ramming attacks feels so pathetic, when full sprint and dodge roll is like 2 steps for the big enemies lol. Then cheesing them from some cliffside is just boring eventually.

One other big one, slaughterspine I think it was called, also has one attack that shoots several plasma projectiles and the first one knocked me down and the rest just killed me from full health. After having fought it for a good while, I was so frustrated :D But yeah, I guess with experience it gets easier to take away their worst attack-weapons and whatnot.

Expert tip: you can actually fast travel from ruins and sunken caves. All you need to do is scroll up to the ground level on the map and pick your destination. You could do this in zero dawn as well.

You cN get lost in tunnels. Use a trap to mark large areas finished or the exit. Rocks might be like bread crumbs.

Some tips it took me a while to discover, hope they are useful to you: 1. You can hold down on the d-pad to rearange your tools, hide them and only put what you really need for fast access. 2.You can hold up on the d-pad to replenish your herbs so you don't have to look for herbs on the ground during a long fight. 3. Fish needs to be captured while swiming, not with an arrow like other animals.

rolling isn't the only way to avoid attacks. it's been confirmed that sliding is also invulnerable for the first dozen or so frames of animation. slide-rolling doubles that.

You can Head Shot the guys with Helmets provided you are using "piercing arrows" with the sharpshooter bow. They go right through the helmet.

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it in the comments, but the key for Rockbreakers is to crouch walk whenever you're in their vicinity. They won't be able to sense your movements.

My husband and I took our time and needed 120 hours to complete the game. And it was never boring. We talked to npcs after quest (there were a lot of nice dialoges like in the first game), found a lot of data point, the totems.. And since I am sick in bed I farmed quite some of the big boys to get and upgrade legendary Gear. I started my second game through and this time I include the Strike games and the Arena. On our firsr play through we opened the Arena way to late in game so it wasn't much point to play.

Fast travel does work in the caves and buildings! Pull up your map and you will see a map of the dungeon you're in, and then press your down d pad until you are on the outside map. Then select the campfire you want and fast travel away. I swim into the caves grab what I want then fast travel out. It works!

Using the Focused Shot with a Sharp Shot bow will really get you some extra distance while “Skyriming”. I liked clearing the rebel camps from high ground that way.

Warning for splitting spike move on spike thrower and high volley for hunter bows, if your overridden sun hawk is flying above you, you might accidentally hit it. Once was killing a snap maw by spamming high volleys but the last one that woulda killed it didn't come back down I was confused but finished it off with a few more arrows and then called my sun hawk to fly to another site, as it grabbed me I noticed a group of like 5 arrows sticking out of its left wing.

Pro tip: Try to go to thornmash as soon as possible. You will be able to buy glowbast sharpshot arrow. Trust me, it's gonna ease your journey. Play side quests. You will enjoy a lot.

You can see future upgrades for your weapons/armor by using the d-pad to scroll right on the upgrade screen at the workbench -- plan out which machines you need parts from if you plan to use a weapon for awhile! I didn't realize this until just about the end of the game :/

Yeah I go mostly melee too, but you do need some more health potions or berries to support that build. But I feel like a melee build is much viable in Horizon Forbidden West then in Zero Dawn. More melee focused combo's and abilities. Pretty fun and rewarding!

First tip should be "always be sliding". When you master the slide the game becomes something new, I swear. And you get I.frames on startup of the slide plus you get a free slomo shot

My biggest tip is to use the landscape! Almost any enemy can be taken down with smart use of rocks, non-foliage hiding spots, & the high ground. edit: Ah hah! This is the "crow's nest" tip here.

Against thunderbirds it’s really fun and also really effective to target their cannon on their chest using an acid shredder gauntlet (talanah’s quests will give you one for example). Brings them down multiple times and since the birds stay far it’s easy to catch the gauntlet coming back. Super fun weapons that to me is under appreciated

You can enable weapon quick-swap in the main menu. This is great if you wanna quickly switch between elemental arrows and armour piercing ones without having to access the wheel. Just simply tap L1 and Aloy with switch between 2 last used weapons/arrow types.

I’m not trying to upstage the channel, or be argumentative, I’m just kinda riffing off what she has to say with a little bit of extra advice. 1. It’s actually very helpful to slide as well as roll, allows for tighter combat, and if you draw your bow WHILE sliding, you get a free concentration burst, which is great for detonating canisters on the underbelly. 2.Another tip for Slitherfangs; keep the earthgrinders. So many upgrades require 10 of those, so it’s smart to try and get 3 from each battle as a secondary goal. 3. That dart gun should be another priority. Not just to use, but if you’re fighting multiple Stalkers, taking the ability to shoot from even one of them makes things noticeably more manageable. 4. Yeah I got nothing else for Rockbreakers. I don’t personally do this a lot, but smokebombs are always helpful in unexpected ways, so you could use those in conjunction with Tearblast arrows. 5. Spikesnouts are one of the best sources of Volatile Sludge, a very important resource for advanced-level ammo. There is no shame in killing the Spikesnouts, looting, and running do you don’t have to fight the bigger ones. 6. Yeah there isn’t much to talk about underwater. But, on the off chance you didn’t already know this: you don’t have to shoot fish while underwater, just swim up and hit triangle. I had a much longer comment here, accidentally deleted, I hate myself, goodbye.

Tips: Look for sharpshot bow with piercing arrow. it can pierce thru helmet and count it as head shot. purple bow with this arrow can one shot those bandits

My tactic for stalkers in H:ZD was always to shoot the module-thingy sticking out on their mid-back first, as it's their cloaking device. Shoot it of and they can't go invisible. Next step is to shoot their cannon by their tail, and after that they're a piece of cake.

They are also *extremely* susceptible to Shock damage. Having a Warrior or Hunter Bow with shock arrows almost trivializes Stalkers, so long as you have some awareness of where they are - stun them w/ shock, blow off their stealth generator, stun them again and either pick off other components or finish w/ a Critical Strike.

Some great tips and I have a few more. Piercing arrows will penetrate rebel face armour for a one shot kill. Easier way to fast travel that doesn’t involve zooming in on camp fire icons in settlements is to zoom out till just the settlement icon shows. You can also FT to points of interest on the map like taken over rebel camps & relic ruins. Don’t buy fast travel packs. Save your shards and craft them in your hunters kit.

Good tips, Zoe. Some of these are universal and apply to both Zero Dawn, and Forbidden West e.g. Warrior bows being the "machine guns" of the bow family, and the Precision bow is the sniper rifle archetype, etc. The funny thing is Zero Dawn, tries to get players to take apart machines piece by piece as well, but a lot of people just pump elemental arrows into the main body to weaken it when surgically taking it apart does more damage than just spamming damage. Keep up the great work!

I'm playing through it, and watching these vids because I'm pretty much just using the reg bow & precision bow for everything. the elemntals aren't doing much at all, and those short range bows are ridiculously bad aim.. try to shoot something with the shock bow, the arrows fling in all directions.

@@kvidal88 that's the idea. You use a warrior bow for close range attack without using the spear. Mainly to add elemental damage. You can even see that pattern by the type of skill associated with the bow. It's always release more arrows in less time.

If you are in the camp preparing for battle and the karutt, might have spelled that wrong, there is a small path sided by cliffs and then you see 4 dead Fire breathing Fanghorns and one live one. Grab shards from the dead ones . The fanghorn will look mad but will not harm you. Hit it, shoot it, and it will run by but not hurt you. Low on shards you can easily get 50 from these 5 creatures. You can just collect from the dead ones. Go away then return and they will again be dead with shards. Not always the same number. Same area go past the Fanghorn trail. To the left a Huge creature walks around. It looks like a Momoth. Go up high on the rocks between him and the giant T-rex lizards. Sneak shots. First shoot the top where sparks start up on the very top of the head. Those are cannons. Hide if you see red stuff comming out, it will burn you. Get those 2 canons up there off of him. Do not get just to the side up a bit. He is great at shooting out the side. After you kill him, mine always lands on on or both cannons even if I remove them. Don't worry. Scan that Mamoth beast. What lights up are 2 smaller cannons in the front looking like tusks. Shooting arrows works best, but the sword alone can handle it. These are much better weapons than the ones below his legs. Those are huge but fire 5 shots. If you smash at the ones trapped you might get one out, or you sword will actually stop working. Now take the small canons and put them in the clearing. To the right from the original path were the Scorchers. In front of you are 3 Trex like lizards. Go up to the path crossing in front of them. The closest path. Stay just behind that. Shoot them and if they move over follow and shoot, then run back to that line. They can't do anything and run all over. When I do it this way the group becomes 2 often. What happened? There were 3. Yes, a flaw. Glitch. Scan the mountain lower rocks and over towards the scorcher area up high still. What? Yes he is trapped. If you are lucky he can stick his head out. Over by the scorchers. But by the mountain that guy might stick his nose out. Leave him or be like me. I had an apex in there. Hit the rock where his head is close too. You will get him some. Throw a spike a d he can be hit. Arrows do nothing. The sword only works when a hard swing on it is made. It will die if you go too long. Hint, try tripwire. On one side of him then walk it around to the other side to attach. He will be moving and hit that. It goes through. Sometimes breaks. But you can scare him towards it too. He will scream,but so far won't come out. This irked me. Why always hidden in a rock? So I experimented. From the rocks above them you can shoot down and take the tails off if you can. More shards. They are pretty and frightening too. Jump if you are near one as it swipes the tail. You have evaded a harsh attack. The funny thing is they are hard to kill unless they cannot get to you. Happy hunting. To the right there are scorchers. 2 normally will be one if it is Apex. Most times. Get up high and duck behind a rock. The center of the 2 is saft if you dodge. First get the cannons. It takes a bit. Explosion arrows shoot it off. I also remove the power on his butt. Always avoid the weapon by just starting by taking it out of the picture. Regular Firebreathing Fanghorns are nice for loot. Shoot the bright tubes then antlers if you can. Or a mix, they are strong, but easy to kill if you take the power out. They are always with buddied to back them up. Solution, hide or get high. Now How can I get me underwater breathing and how do I kill fish?

I had a learning curve problem with the first game. I got super frustrated by the first real fliers in the game (I've aged poorly into gaming lol) and took like, a couple months off. Jumped back in and figured it out and fell in love with the game. This time around, I've not had the same problem and still love the game a lot. There is a lot for my brain to handle in combat and I know I must be doing something wrong since so many others are talking about how easy normal should be, but nothing has stopped me yet. Stalkers are easily electrified. One arrow usually suffices even on very hard mode. Advanced electric arrows. Get rid of rockbreakers mining claws they can't go underground after this. Well can't hurt hearing it twice

Just rolling is diminishing your i frames, what you should be doing is sprint sliding into a roll, combining the two will yield 25 i frames instead of the 11 the roll yields, for a pack of enemies dont go taking out 1 by 1 instead swap to the chain burst surge in the machine master tree

Behemoth tip!! Shoot those cylindrical components on the side of their necks with Tear ammo & they explode. I use the Forgefall bow & those behemoths literally only need 3 arrows if you aim correctly. Sometimes it even affects any other machines near it

about the Crows nest. It does not work always. After I detached some of the long range weapons from a thunderjaw, he ran away and hid out of range of the sharpshooting bow. same happened with the stalkers in HZD FW

In options, turing on always sprinting is sometimes annoying. Makes you come out of foliage by accident, or run off a cliff edge, etc. But, I find it incredibly helpful when engaged with large and/or multiple enemies. Having it on and moving, makes it so you can simply hit square, and go into a slide. And sliding works the same as rolling for damage immunity.

Another tip : rockbreakers, fire/frostclaws & tremortusks have this sac on their belly. It's full of liquid & if you hit it it explodes. If you're lucky, it'll affect nearby machines as well. Best ammo to use is the Skykiller (spike thrower) or any Tear ammo

Ok so like always, I usually only learn 0-2 usefull tips but always the best and most fun tips you could amagine like thd legendary armour or the rock with the rockbreaker trick and the spinning spear? And you reminded me of actually turning up the difficulty once it gets too easy, 1.spinning spear is another reason to get skill points, making the game last longer and giving me reason to het more skill points 2.Armor gives me something to work/grind for making the game last longer and feel more fun 3.The rock trick with the rockbreaker makes them easier and more fun to fight 4.And the difficulty level reminder just helps to keep the game actually fun and mot ridiculously easy

Another detail to note regarding plasma is that there's a delay that allows you to chain max damage blasts. As soon as the time for the status runs out, if you can trigger it again before the explosion, you'll be at max or near max charge for an additional time. It is tough to do consistently, especially if you don't have a build that triggers the status quickly, but if you can do it, it saves a lot of ammo on the bigger enemies

I am not 100% sure, but I think you can also fill the damage meter quicker by shooting another plasma arrow at it while the ticker is counting down (unlike other elemental states) - I think that I noticed this with some spikesnouts

Am I playing the game too much when I pretty much know where you were on the map just from some of the machines you were fighting and the terrain in the area haha. Good video, I like you played stealth but was far more patient and was able to clear out most rebel camps without them ever seeing me (including the "last" one

Lol, I’m about 30 hours in and still doing side quest and hunting. I’m at level 40 with 160 skill points that I haven’t used. In the main story, I just got to Gaia at the base.

I knew about the 'being above the machines' trick. I was doing a Rebel Outpost, related to the Daunt I think, and had to take out the machines before investigating. I grappled to the top of a pole right by the pin and was able to stay right there while I took the machines down. They were running all over the place, but never saw me.

I’m about 3/4 through the game and have realised I’ve missed a lot of things that Aloy can do. I’m rather upset that I haven’t made use of her skills as much as I could have. I had to put the game on easy, to get any enjoyment out of it, because I was getting killed repeatedly. I’ve enjoyed playing it on easy, but I’m disappointed in myself for missing so much. I’m not the type of person to replay a game again. So I have to just be content with what I’ve played. It’s a stunningly beautiful game and I’m still having a ball playing it, but after watching a few of these videos on the game, I’ve realised how I’ve under utilised Aloys skills. 😪 I’m using them more now. I have two of the best armours and 3 of the best weapons and I’m now just going around to build them up to set myself up for the rest of the game. I’m now at level 50 and sadly I’ve realised I’ll never finish the skill tree, unless they make a dlc that bumps up the level cap.

Alternate Shock arrows, then R1 Critical Strike on all big machines. Easy then. Particularly like the Rockbreaker/Stalker tips - arrows on red traps.

I'm literally soft locked in the game. Got about 50 hours into it, did everything that I possibly could then got to the sea of sands mission and its totally glitched. U have to basically kill a herd and grab specific parts from specific enemies in the herd but the 2 machines you have to kill to get those parts, flat out don't spawn. U can't go collect the parts from anywhere else (maybe u can start farming the parts after u trigger it in this mission but idk) so I can't progress the game. I've tried everything to fix it. Found out online that unfortunately this is a pretty common problem. So here I am restarting the entire game. I'm not going to screw around with side stuff and I will do the sea of sands first to see if it works or not. Other than that, I love the game. These are all great tips.

If you use the health Valor fully upgraded you become a tank on normal difficulty.

Rock breakers are super easy. Just get to high ground, tear off components and wait them out. All they take is patience and sometime you need to jump down to bait them but just use stone and cover.

I like to use the ability to zoom in closer when I'm using a tearblast. And you want to talk about cheesing, I like to use my power ability on Sharpshot bow on the Apex machines like the Thunderjaw, Slitherfange and Slaughterspine, and run and hide. Talk about cheesy. And to calm down everybody, yes I have taken them head on. I just go through more materials that way, and it gets annoying when you need their hearts to upgrade your weapons and armors. :D

Thanks for sharing! As in Horizon Zero Dawn, one of my favorite weapons in Horizon Forbidden West is the Sharpshot Bow! These tips will definitely come in handy as I progress beyond Level 30! All the best on all future endeavors!

Hey Zoe, love your video's and your actually funny! But you can use a fast travel pack in caves by clicking on the map and then pressing up (depending on how many floors the map has) and when you see the open world teleport to a campfire😁

thank you so much very small things you mentioned but several that mattered to me alot they weren't well explained in game this was really useful to my current playthru thx very much so many games I buy 9 months later I barely play it I just keep playing the Horizon games for years at a time I spend hours just running, jumping, a little quest more running, climbing, traversing and I love that spending 4 hours straight to upgrade a particular weapon or arrow pouch by hunting? it so awesome its not a geek violence dream you want more precision arrows? in your pack? you gotta go get 3 skins of this and 4 bones of this and this and this part so you stop the thing thats frustrating you and you go off and do that instead I wish Sony was more open to true modding but they are not they will never give us quest and model/animation adding or injecting they are so closed to the concept of modding their games but I have played skyrim for over a decade and much more but I can spend 20 minutes in this game after wtf rlf and I feel great I spent more than half an hour hunting salmon skins in a silly game and loved it because HZFW gives me the best real world foliage and hair Aloy has lovely hair With my armour look applied and I am climbing the wtf whatever or running the plants the rocks its all seamless It's Nice Nice. bright, colourful, tactical, challenging after a couple years? I like that in a game. that I'm starting to get bored after a couple years and then I newgame+ it for the first time and speedthrough a bit and then I can up the difficulty to full on and I have my gear from the first play and all that land and those quests to explore I am totally pc luv this game

Thunder jaws are also incredibly hard to utilize stealth with as unlike other machines thunder jaws will investigate where the sound originated from rather them from where the rock/ sound hit from they basically will know it’s you if you throw a rock near them unless you reposition

no 1 KZbinr talks about how to change your courage explosion which you have to click with L1 then R1 it should still be able to change from say energy shield to radial wave or to power shots or 1 of those other skills or do you have to reset your skill points every time and then click on the one you want
