FC Bayern Munich’s fairytale season stayed alive as the German team came back from 13 points down to knock off AX Armani Exchange Milan 85-82 at home to force Game 5 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Playoffs.

@@captaincortez4917 Does it really surprise you? Germany won four medals in international tournament between 1993 and 2005 (three of them were mainly due to Nowitzki, though). Meanwhile, Germany has a considerable number of NBA players (former Bayern player Kleber, Theis who played under Trinchieri in Bamberg, Bonga in Washington, Schröder in L.A., Hartenstein for Cleveland and until recently, Moe Wagner for Boston) and dudes who're playing for European powerhouses (Voigtmann for CSKA, Barthel for Fener, Pleiss for Efes). However unfortunately, Germany's first and foremost a soccer nation, so it's hard for German basketball club teams to enter the phalanx of the European top teams (since TV revenues and sponsorships don't generate enough money and contrary to clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid, the basketball department of Bayern Munich doesn't get cross-financed by the football department). The arenas in Germany are crowded (at least before the Corona pandemic), though. Italians are also obsessed with football. However, football doesn't suppress basketball to the same extent like in Germany. As a result, the Italian league has been financially better off than the German and had a very successful period in the EuroLeague at the turn of the millenium (Kinder Bologna, Teamsystem Bologna). Reminder: Bayern's basketball department's - contrary to Real Madrid and Barcelona - not getting cross-financed by the football department, neither do they a have a patron (e.g.Turkish teams) nor a the Ministry of Defense to give them money (as has CSKA).
