The song still has some strong lines about our new situation. "Fascist rule and genocide now we face the rising tide" and "Our savior, fight evil send armies to defend us". Its time to stand up again (in any way we can). The European idea of freedom and the wish of living in peace together cant be destroyed. I am german and I hate what the Nazis did to the world and my own country. I am thankful for the brave Allies who fought for our freedom. All the lessons from the past still have a meaning! I swear, sometimes I come listening to this just to cry for a bit. It's weird how sad but uplifting it is at the same time... But thinking and realizing just how bloody of a history we have and how it doesn't look like it will ever stop just makes you seriously wonder, why do we still survive as a species. I would just keep claiming, that our russian broothers should not be kicked out of the family, if they realize their wrong doings. Also, as I am from Germany, the phrase "Never again!" has a bit of another meaning. It is the phrase used by antifascist movements after the experiences with death camps. We see leaders like in Italy (Meloni), Hungary (Orban) or Sweden (technically not right wing radical leadership but dependent on the radical right wings benevolence). In my country the radical right wing people killed the not only 6 million jews, but all people who are disabled, gay, trans, psychological unstable (which is not rare in war times), left wing (even social democrats), romany people and so called "asocials" which means all people who did not accept what the cultural norm of the government was. "Never again!" in the context of Europe is a bit more harsh for me. But also totally right.

The phrase is referring to the past eras. If you are familiar with the whole song, you will know the theme is about the history of Europe - basically the idea of this phrase is to suggest that previously Europe was in a darkness or ignorance but then afterwards became enlightened and moved away from its problems. AVANT HIER, AVANT ETRE - This means "before yesterday", i.e in the past, and "before we were" or before we became something, before our establishment etc DEJA DEMAIN, NOUS SOMME ECLAIRE - This is saying "Since yesterday", again speaking of the past but referring to more recently, "nous somme éclaire", - "we were enlightened". Before yesterday refers to the day/era before the enlightenment Since yesterday refers to the day/era they became enlightened If using the days of the week - Sunday being the current day Friday would be be BEFORE YESTERDAY Saturday would be YESTERDAY It's a very poetic way of saying "we were once nothing but now we have become something" i.e - enlightened. I haven't heard this song in about 5 years. I just realized how much it talks about Islam or about evil combinations.
