You may need to look into how AE works though. when it says -51(-51) it means that it doesn't matter how long you wait that country will get 51 AE with you. the first number is how much AE you'll get now and the one in parenthesis is your total AE with that country. But a trick is; if for example it says -40(-51) you can peace out on the 30th of Dec and after 2 days that country will not have enough AE to join a coalition due to the year passing

Peace at any date in December is fine. The AI won't consider a coalition until the next monthly tick.

when the calendar year goes from 31st of Dec to 1st of Jan, depending on your relationship with other countries your AE goes down by 2-4. So if you are going to be at 51 AE with a country due to a peace deal, you can wait to do the peace at the end of Dec. This way while normally they would be able to join a coalition due to having 50 or more AE, due to the year ending your AE will decrease by 2-4 and they will not be able to join a coalition.

He should also look a bit more into how battles work, he sends way to much infantry in so his cav does nothing at all, flanking width is only 2 in the beginning as well so more than 4 cav is worthless.

I'm sitting screaming at him that since this is his first war of the campaign, and he hasn't taken any land yet, he has no aggressive expansion at all. meaning the negative -51 is the impact from taking France.

France's king starts out with Inspiring Leader which +5% moral of armies but it's really down to Pravus just not letting his troops regenerate moral

You won't get much aggressive expansion in Ireland. It's far away from mainland Europe.

You will get enough for a coaltion though. Subjugating Scottland and eating all of the scottish minors gives you a small coaltion but because Pravus forced the union over France, he has a lot of aggressive expansion already, which would give him a a coaltion where probably every catholic nation, that isn't his ally, will join the war against him.

reduce AE by making one of the irish minors a vassal then feed it, by the time you have enough AE for the rest of the irish minors and scotland to form a coalition you will already be to strong to deal with

The biggest threat after forcing a PU is your king dying. If he dies while your relations are negative, the PU breaks. I'm always worried about Henry dying before opinion is non-negative.

go after irish minor kildare. itll drag in scotland. force pu on scotland and annex irish land. then take influence, but you'll prob need to ditch that level 1 guy. with the vassal income and first idea from influence, you can afford to have a level 3 dip guy, AND maybe even squeeze out a promotion to get 4 dip (with a dip focus that's 6)

Some tips, - When you're at war you can see who is going to join the coalition against you and just send someone over to improve relations with them, if their opinion of you is over a certain amount they wont join the coalition. - You can keep your vassal from ever rebelling against you even if they're hundreds of times stronger than you by being at war. You could fabricate on some Irish minor for instance, and just come around every once in a while and wipe their units until France is cool.

Generally, it's better to rely on the truce timer and future wars to keep them loyal until they like you. First, any time you develop them, you aren't developing yourself. Second, you're making them more powerful in the long run, which both increases liberty desire AND increases cost to integrate. Third, truce timer means they can't rebel for a long while, and they can't rebel when you're at war. More reasons to go the war route here: If you're at war in mainland Europe, France is going to take the brunt of the manpower damage (decreasing their power, which decreases liberty desire). Plus, they're more likely to go into debt if they get anything sieged down which you can theoretically pay back if you want to lower their LD, or you could just let them be in debt to make them marginally weaker. The only other thing that I can't remember though is if developing them increases their opinion? If so, that could be an emergency method for preserving the union if the monarch is likely to die, and for preventing a rebellion if the truce times out and he can't for some reason declare a silly war against someone like an Irish OPM.

So, just to say your bad/low moral was mostly because you weren't allowing for your moral to recover. Those improve Relations advisers still exist with %20 efficiency. and of course taking care of some of the rebels do help out with relations with France. I know I certainly got one of those advisers before I subjugated France before the end of the year. Also, you should be pretty free to invade Ireland... but since I lost my first war with France I vassalized an OPM and gave him all the Irish cores.

As Castille, I had a PU over France in 1450 because of a royal marriage. I did not even notice the popup as I was in a war and closed all popups without reading them as I thought it was only "army has reached province" popup. I got scared when I saw France marching in thinking they joined on Aragon's side in the war.

What exactly forced you to take a peace deal in January? As undecided as France was, you could have easily waited for December. Haut-Poitou might have fallen in the meantime. That could have spared you quite a bit of tension.

When you decided to "wait for the AE", you were making one of the mist stupid mistakes imageable , the AE, is not going down, because your getting all 51 AE at ONCE, meaning that you should have peaced out on December 30th so that when they accept on the 31st there will be only one day where anyone will have AE to get the coalition CB

I don't think you understand how aggressive expansion works. You were waiting for it to tick down when you were at 0, which doesn't make sense because you're not going to get anywhere waiting for it to go below 0. What you want to do is make the peace deal at the end of december so it can go from 51 AE to 49 or something like that so it doesn't fire.

If you peace out with 51 aggressive expansion like that in late December, your AE will tick down at the change of the year and they'll only have until end of december to join before they're too low in AE to join. If they do join they need to lose all AE or be at around +50 opinion to leave.

A personal union is a special relationship where your monarch holds two titles: King of your country, and King of another (France and England, in this case). This means that France operates as an extension of England; while Pravus can't directly control their armies or land, France will automatically join any war he enters, and they will sometimes kill rebels in his land if they have easy access. The biggest advantages are: you have an extra manpower pool (every country regenerates at least 500 manpower per month, and can store at least 20,000 manpower; while Pravus doesn't have direct access to this manpower, he does get a lot of the benefits of having it available to "his" French armies); and personal unions have a chance to automatically integrate (become fully part of your country, at which point you own his land and troops but lose the manpower pool) by "inheritance". For a big country like France that chance is low, but theoretically if Pravus kept France for the entire game, there's a very good chance he'd inherit them for free at some point. Note that personal unions are also somewhat more fragile than other relationships, especially when your monarch dies. For example, pretender rebels in France will remove the personal union if they enforce their demands. If Pravus's monarch dies before he gets France's opinion positive, they'll automatically break the union, too.

I could be wrong, but I don't think you can have two idea groups from the same column right after each other. So for example, if your first group is a diplomatic group, your next group has to be admin or military.

ShieldAre by default no, but in the options when starting a game you can set the "no limit to idea groups", with no drawbacks

I think rivaling the Ottamans is a very bad move that you have made because if you are unlucky enough to have it supporting the independence of France or your king dies before the french opinion is reaching positive, you have to restart the game. Plus, the morale of french army is so good if you have opened the lucky nations for historical nations which France can get a significant bonus at the beginning of game for defending the English invasion .

Actually, waiting for that agressive expansion to tick down won't ever be sucessful, since you did not have gathered any by now and the amount displayed is basically what you get for demanding that personal union. It is that awful, but if you can avoid Burgundy to join, they won't take a chance and it won't even fire. Your alliances with Castille, Aragon and Austria are helping, too.

Combat was not permanent over that period, and the title "Hundred years war" is just an approximation. It should have been named "War of the French succession", as this is the root cause of the conflict.

If you send the peace deal on Dec 31 the AE will reduce by 3 and all the 51 AE countries won't join a coalition. AI needs 50 AE and negative relations to join a coalition against you
