All you fools pointing out "the Veyron is faster", it's about the 1/4 mile trap speed, not the top speed. It's relating the quickest (time) and fastest (mph) in a 1/4 mile. And even if it were based on fastest top speed, a Veyron is not the fastest street legal car (not is the SS). There are street legal cars that hit 240+ mph in a quarter mile and have 3 times the power. If you don't think they can go faster than a Buggati, you're either ignorant or a fanboy.

To be honest, I do not get why he used a Audi as base... if you are going to build a mean FR machine, why start with a FWD??? Of course, giving the fact that he wasn't going to leave much of the original car, probably it is just because he liked the style.
@dabotz_draws8 жыл бұрын
Audi GT? They made a Quattro version of it? The Über Audi Quattro was the "Quattro" version of the first model GT... I thought they kept the naming scheme. However, the original Audi architecture is about as crappy as you can go, to build a RWD (famously, the AWD Audis are any bit as understeering as the FWD base models, which limited the initial results of the aforementioned Über Quattro, till someone figured to enter turns almost purely by handbrake)... Then again, of that (starting with the overboard frontal motor), this car has nothing.

Attention anti-American engine whiners! There's no shortage of super-fast Audi-engined Audis! Their Group B (street legal) rally car held the record at the 14 mile Pike's Peak hill climb for years. If you can't think that far back, just go for a spin in a current S7. Then maybe you won't be so insecure about this very cool guy putting a monster GM mill in his little Audi sedan and turning it into an outrageous drag racer. Instead of getting into a snit, give the guy credit for his mechanical skills -- wedging that huge V8 plus blower under the hood, and keeping the rear track width unchanged. I'll bet Audi's own R&D engineers would be fascinated by what he's done. And flattered that he chose one of their cars as the starting point.

DarkMagician6HF you missed my point, I have issue with people calling a car a 'street' car when it is clearly a drag car that, through some quirk in the law can be registered. I would also say here in Australia as soon as the coppers saw that car they would pull it over and issue a default notice, or as soon as it launched aggressively off the lights and a copper saw it they would seize the car (because of our anti-hoon laws) and sell it, and the driver could do nothing about it.

But street tires without a lot of tread can be either slippery or high traction depending on the compound of the tire and the type of surface you are on. Concrete with rubber and "bald" tires is high traction, bald tires on hot asphalt tends to be low traction because the surface has oils on it from the surface itself.

Meanwhile in the states there are street legal cars running low 6s...

Lt. Roast-a-hoe maybe but you'll be fucked if you have to turn a corner in one of them at any speed . That Audi's biggest mistake is the V8 engine in the front should of kept the 2.2 L 20 valve 5 cylinder turbo that came with it standard and just tuned that bad boy up not saying it would be faster but it would sound a lot fucking better

... So when was this filmed? Because I saw a clip about a month ago, with an Australian VL C'Dore, 3.0 litre, (about '86 ~ '88) that was running 7.2s on street radials. They're all very quick, but Red Victor and this thing and quite a few drag cars in the states, they're an awful long way from being normal road cars. Like the old group B rally cars, they're a fibreglass replica of a production car, wrapped around an exotic racing machine. The VL I mention, different animal entirely. Original body, in steel, original engine, (rather hotted of course), original suspension layout and design... and it regularly runs mid to low 7s. ... Is it street legal? er ... Good question. It has lights and mirrors and stuff, and they drive it to and from the track. Whether it would pass a hostile dept transport inspection, I'm not so sure. Equally, it has a roll bar, but not a full cage. And it doesn't seem to have a parachute. ... It's not a drag car, because there are a number of fundamental rules in drag racing it doesn't comply with. And it does still have a full steel monocoque chassis / body from the factory, factory glass and doors and ...

+Kneedragon1962 Red Victor (the version mentioned in this video) and this "Audi" both still retain their steel bodies.

+NegativeNumbers427 Ok... There's some contest in the 'states, where they drive from track to track and pull a small trailer. The cars are legal, or at least they should be. But they're like funny cars... They're a lightweight 'glass body that flips up as one piece...

Kneedragon1962 Dragweek. Good watch. Starts again in October. Point is. At the time of recording, this car was one of the quickest, along with Red Victor. Both had Steel bodies. But this was all a few years ago. Things have become way more competitive over the years, so naturally people would use lighter parts, etc. Plus there's the ease of use with fibreglass: taking the panels off for maintenence, or making replacement panels instead of having to find another panel, cut it, weld it, and all that crap.

NegativeNumbers427 I can see good reasons to do it, on a competition vehicle, but it complicates the business of being a spectator. 8-)

and its the fastest street legal car in the UK. No way this would be even close to street legal here in germany. the street legal parts stops at the wing, height, exhaust, rollcage, engine... pretty much everything besides the steering wheel is hella illegal.

So it's US made GM V8 muscle engine with a US muscle Ford diff to get the power to the tarmac. Built on a space frame with Audi panels and badge stuck on? I hope Audi are paying you to carry that badge on it?

Why are people even bringing up the murica vs euro debate here, this car is fully custom and modified to death, apart from the god dammed shell and logos its not even an audi anymore. How are the origins of the parts even relevant? You guys boggle my mind.
