Thanks again for the professional insight, gentlemen. Totally agree with your ideas about how to improve sparring rules. I really hope improvements could be made. The less the center referee needs (or is given chance) to get involved, the better, imho. Too often I had no idea why the fight was stopped, let alone which fighter would get a warning, if either. Punching the opponent 4 times resulted in a warning, so did getting kicked with a side kick... Sometimes the opponent got the warning for nothing, so maybe in the end it was even... There was also inconsistency between rings.

Thank you, very interesting thought. When it comes to judging patterns, I had exactly the same thoughts: competition is essentially comparing two performances with each other, and that is easiest if we see the performances directly next to each other. For one of the following episodes it would be great to have a chat with one of the European Champions and discuss how they prepared!

Love the frustration at the beginning 😂 it has been like that forever and getting worse. Rules keep changing, new rules keep stacking and way how things are interpret is every time different. It just does not make sense. Ever. I watched only weekend sparrings; there were numerous fights with +20 warnings, nymerous useless warmings. Often every reset middle. I saw numerous wins with KO. Points were given in "reverse point-stop" style, where the last hit counts. Pattern system has been broken since the point system was changed to fault based thingy. The latest one-by-one just deepends the misery.

I like the yellow card/red card idea. The other main ITF group uses this and it makes sense. Warnings for small things like losing balance. Minus points (no DQ for three) for more serious things like exiting/holding. An accumalation of these could also result in a yellow card if it appears to be cynical. Yellow/red for most of what we call fouls now: excessive contact/dissent etc.

Good: Polish kindness and hospitality. Ugly: Exactly the same belt with two competitors in the same ring and one had to hide the ITF and the other didn't?? It is a good example of discrimination. Ugly: Exactly the same violation, one competitor gets a minus point, and the other just a warning? Ugly: The refereess count one competitor's points that he did not make, and the other's do not count those that he made. We had a score of 1:12, 6-7, 5:6 and 0:11??? There are many examples of unprincipled and biased trials. Bad: Some categories started an hour earlier??? (ring 2, junior female +65). This kind of thing did not happen in Cluj Napoka.
