We explore in this video the recent reform of the European electricity market, presented in March 2023 and approved by the Council in October. This reform, which now awaits negotiations with the European Parliament, focuses on five key areas: the intraday market, Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), Contracts for Difference (CFDs) and consumer protection. We look at how the marginal electricity market is maintained and proposals to improve short-term markets, including reducing the minimum bid and creating regional virtual hubs. PPAs and CFDs are also addressed, emphasizing consumer protection and transparency. The reform seeks to adapt to the differences between Member States in terms of generation capacity and technical and geographical characteristics. With a focus on feasibility and expectations, this reform represents an important, albeit cautious, step towards a more integrated and efficient European electricity market, with a special focus on renewable energy and consumer protection.
