As an American, I can say I am impressed, and you are the first non-American I've seen do this right. You got a strawberry-based jelly, which is exactly what I'd pick for a first-timer, and also picked out the same EXACT peanut butter I use. You got the experience of realizing a "normal" amount is not enough, and "way too much" is the correct amount. You had that moment of realizing you need to wipe the knife (which we forget every time until halfway through making the sandwich). You even took big bites and chugged most of the milk at the end, which is the best way to enjoy PB&J. You made and ate that sandwich like a real American, and you should be very proud.

My husband is Indian, I'm American/English. We've been together 4 years and it never occurred to me that he hadnt had a pb&j before. I'm not a huge fan of them myself but i randomly had a craving a couple of weeks ago so I made one for myself and one for him, as I often make him a small plate of whatever I'm having for my lunch as a snack for him because we eat keals at different times. I brought him the sandwich and quickly left because he was in a meeting. Hours later he comes to me and says "what was that sandwich you brought me?!" And that's when i realized he had never had one! Now he's eating them every day! I prefer it on wheat bread with crunchy peanut butter and seedless raspberry jam. I'm pretty generous with the pb and jam as well. I dont drink milk either though so i just have water lol The main thing about pb&j is that while it's not healthy because of the sugar but it's a pretty balanced meal because of the protein and fat. It's also so filling it's perfect for a meal or a heavy snack.

FINALLY! Someone makes it RIGHT! That second sandwich was perfectly made! And getting jelly and peanut butter randomly everywhere is also very correct! For cleaning of the knife - wipe it on the plain piece of bread. At the end, you can wipe the knife through the closed sandwich to get it a bit cleaner....or just lick it. Pro Tip: If you need to leave the sandwich sit while you wash up or something - always leave it peanut butter side down on the plate. If you leave it jelly side down - it'll get all soggy and messy on the bottom. So glad you liked it!!

It was the blatant and rampant rigging from the D Primaries across States to the obvious cheating the numbers rigging late on Election night that year and witnessed live with my own eyes. Almost entirely in Dem dominated voting zones. It forced me to wake up, realize we no longer live in a representative republic, corruption and grifter are all that elects anyone beyond a city council, and all laws voted on are just changed to whatever political power wants. Probably has been true for at least 2 decades longer than I knew... And you get ONE SHOT if you slide through the system somehow then you are turned or burned- Trump had his shot, did some good things then blew it in critical ways anyways, then got burned too. He's just grifting with bizarre and wildly unpopular with his voters takes now. Biden is a catastrophic disaster for our nation- far worse than I feared, and boy did I fear much! RFK is a joke. And clearly changes his views with the wind or polls. Useless. No one else will get a shot- 2016 cured the Dems of hubris, ajd the rigging is set hard into stone now. We are doomed. Just a matter of how long before it all implodes.

Jelly is not made from juice. Whole chopped fruit is cooked in water and then strained to extract the flavors sugars and pectin etc.. This liquid isn't really juice in the regulatory sense, it's a fruit extract. This strained extract is then cooked with sugar till the jelling point. Jam is not strained, but simply cooked with sugar and water until the jelling point. Some fruits will not successfully form a jelly with fruit pieces - without straining to produce a jelly they'll form a paste (quince paste) or sauce. Preserves don't meet the regulatory definition of a jelly or jam.

Only now that I'm a grown up I use the natural peanut butter that you have to stir (because the oil separates) which only has 2 ingredients: dark roasted peanuts & salt (Santa Cruz brand). And I use preserves (usually strawberry) which contains actual fruit, not just fruit juice--which is what most jelly is. I also spread a thin layer of peanut butter on each slice of bread, then put the preserves in the middle so the bread doesn't get soggy.

Being an American with an English grandmother, I had my PB&Js with butter on the bread before the peanut butter and the jelly. Delicious! And it helps keep the jelly from making the bread soggy and the peanut butter from sticking to the roof of your mouth so much. 😄 Now that you have a jar of peanut butter, I would like to recommend peanut butter and honey, either on hot toast or as a sandwich, and peanut butter, honey, and sliced banana sandwiches. Excellent! A tasty snack is apple slices dipped in peanut butter. Many people find when they grow to be adults that they prefer natural peanut butter, which is simply roasted peanuts and a little salt ground to a paste. The jar will need stirring as you use it, but I find that a small price to pay for the rich, unadulterated, nutty flavor. Also delightful is almond butter or even a mixed-nut butter. A lot of natural food stores/health food stores have grinders to make fresh butters right there on the spot. You could also try different jams and preserves. Marmalade is tasty, as is apricot. My favorite, though, is black raspberry preserves. I’m glad you enjoyed your sandwiches!

Buttering the bread first makes it "waterproof" so it doesn't get soggy in your lunch sack. A thin scraping is all you need. It reminds me of English tea sandwiches. Apricot is my favorite too, on toasted bread.

Remember this is a kid’s staple of a sandwich. Kids make this for themselves all the time and yes mixing up the jelly in peanut butter and vice versa is common. Milk chaser is crucial. Good protein source the milk and peanut butter. The original reeses commercial in early 1970s (you should check out) shows the accident of getting peanut butter onto a chocolate bar and a chocolate bar into peanut butter. Sort of like how jelly gets in pb and vice versa.

Gob it on! The combined filling should make up about half the width of a slice of bread. If it drips out of your sandwich as you bite, then you almost have enough. ;) Don't worry about cleaning your knife off. Just let the peanut butter get mixed into the jam and the jam mixed into the peanut butter. Here in the US, they sell PB&J together in a jar and swirled together.

The second sandwich is honestly pretty close to how much I personally put on my sandwiches. If you wanna get *really* crazy though, add a third slice of bread and spread a second layer of peanut butter and jelly on to make a double decker. When I was a kid, I even made triple deckers, which was literally two separate sandwiches stacked on top of each other, with a third layer of peanut butter and jelly in between. Also, yes, Skippy is a common brand here, though Jif always seems to occupy more shelf space at the stores I go to, so I imagine it probably sells the most.

Welcome to the american after school club! This was a staple for kids back in the 40's through the 80s when we got out of school. Run home and whip us some PB&J sammiches and snack on down. Now some "puritans" will say to only use grape jelly, but thats nonsence! Apple, strawberry, orange marmalade, peach, or any jam are just fine, depends on your personal tastes. My favorite is prickly pear (grows on a type of cactus we have here in the western US). Its delicious with peanut butter.

My favorite way to make a pb&j sandwich is with freshly made sourdough rosemary bread, crunchy peanut butter and a berry jam. Both the peanut butter and the jam are spread unevenly so in one bite there is more peanut butter, in another is more jam, and so on. When I really want to splurge the bread will be toasted with butter and peanut butter warmed by the toast on one side jam on the other. Soooo good. It's yummy with coffee too. Somehow the coffee and peanut butter go really well together.

I love watching Europeans trying to figure out jelly. In North America, jelly is clear since it is made from the strained juice of the fruit. A traditional PB&J is made with grape jelly. You can find apple, cherry, and mint jelly in the stores but they are not usually used (mint is more of a condiment for meats like lamb). Jam is made from crushed fruit and may or may not have peels and seeds in it. The biggest seller is strawberry and many like that for PB&J's. Raspberry is another big selling jam. Preserves are made from whole or slightly cut up fruit and strawberry is the biggest of those too. Marmalade is a type of preserve that is a combination of fruit juice (usually citrus) and peel from the same fruit. Orange is most common but in the UK I see a lot of lime.
