Betty White isn't a legend *just* for her role on Golden Girls. Her entire life was amazing. An incredible woman.

Betty White was on TV before TV was on TV... seriously, she was on an experimental program before broadcasting started up on the west coast. She was the first woman host of a daytime TV talk show (on the air LIVE 33.5 hours/week), the first woman star of her own sitcom and successfully fought to have the first Black cast members on national television. Her career lasted more than 70 years and she worked constantly and created some of our most iconic characters. She truly was the Queen of American TV.

I always say that broadcast television should’ve been shut down after Betty’s death and everyone just go over to streaming series. It seems clear to me that TV was Betty Whites vehicle…it was the Betty White show. And now that she is gone, the show has jumped the shark with post Betty seasons that are just the studios milking the series for whatever they can get from it. We all know that TV belongs to Betty 😊

I can’t believe no one has said this, but she was hilarious in Lake Placid. 😂 In 1954 she had Arthur Duncan, a black dancer, on her show. She was under immense pressure to not have him on, at the threat of tv stations not airing her show. Do you know what that beautiful woman did? She used him in anything she could! We miss her. She is a legend!

You wondered about those of us who watched Golden Girls when it was on and if we still miss it? Yes. It was on from 1985 to 1992, so that was when I was a kid. My parents weren't fans so we didn't watch it at home, but my paternal grandparents were (particularly my grandma) and never missed it. I used to watch it with them when I visited my grandparents on weekends (which was a regular thing, as they lived nearby). I watch old videos of the show and I can still hear my grandma's laugh every time I do.

Betty was actually in the first production of an experimental thing called Television. Sounds ridiculous in 2024, but it's true. She was also a passionate activist for animal advocacy and wildlife protection. Her story is amazing. She is beloved in America.

The best way to explain Betty White is she was so remarkably good as a human that when she passed on New Years Eve not only did most people toast her memory at the strike of 12 but the outpouring of love afterward included how passing just a matter of days before her 100th birthday she was universally lauded as having gone too soon.

Golden Girls was really unique, because it was always funny (still funny today) and they had a LOT of serious moments too. They basically covered every difficult issue back when TV shows didn’t do it. They even had an HIV/AIDS episode when one of the girls thought she contracted it.

Betty White was an entertainer and very talented. Shes been in so many shows on TV. I think we hold her dear in our hearts bc she was just as genuine when being interviewed. She was very down to earth and wasnt afraid to make fun of herself. She was also a true humanitarian ,even with all her fame. She seemed like a genuinely good person. She had that talent and was funny and witty in many of her tv shows over the years. We just love her in America and in death she is a legend for the ages . That women just shined positivity.

Betty White was the first person ever to appear on television. She was the first woman to ever have her own show, and to produce her own show back in the late '40s. You should check out her time on the Mary Tyler Moore show where she played Sue Ann Nivens. She was hilarious on that show. Also her Snickers commercial from 2010 which really revived her career right after she had turned 90.

As you can see by the many comments, she is a legend. But she was beloved before Golden Girls. Well and after as well. Just Google Betty White and you can see how long her career spanned. But as for the Golden Girls, I think it was cast perfectly. Along with the humor it also tackles so difficult subjects. And some of the jokes are centered around that particular time period. Also, the character Rose Nylund is of Scandinavian descent growing up in Minnesota. The state of Minnesota is known for having a lot of immigrants from Scandinavian countries settle there. Yes, you and your wife should definitely watch the show. It is still played in America tv to this day. ❤ it.

I grew up on this show and my kids would watch it with me too and they still love it. They tell me it brings special memories of us watching it together. Betty White was a true legend died at the young age of 99. She acted up until her death too. All the ladies of Golden Girls are Legends in their own right. I watch The Golden Girls reruns on TV. So glad they still air this so the young generation as well as future generations can enjoy it. They really don't make GOOD shows that you don't have to worry about your children seeing or hearing something they shouldn't.

Betty White was more than a legend. She was a national treasure R.I.P. She had a thing for Robert Redford that she commented on MANY, MANY TIMES. She was a huge advocate for animals. This was one of the best shows on tv. They don't make stuff like this anymore and it's sorely missed. Rose is the sweet and hilariously clueless one of the group. She's got all the crazy stories that basically don't apply to anything which is why the others joke her all the time. Don't get her going though because she could be just as sassy and sarcastic as the rest of them, lol.

Golden Girls seemed like part of the family … also some funny religious humour … Blanche (Southern Baptist), Rose (Scandinavian Lutheran) and Dorothy & Sophia (Italian Catholics) … when “the centre was closed” Dorothy clarified that it was the grief centre and not the Kennedy Space Centre and added sarcastically “Rose wanted to be the first Lutheran on the moon!”

I didn't pay attention to betty White years ago but i liked her on the Golden Girls. But when i saw her on Lake Placid, oh my. She was a feisty old lady in that. Real feisty. When the police and game warden came to ask her questions , Wow, she could really talk back in a way you wouldn't expect a nice old lady to do. Well, the language was very salty, but she did it so well! I think you might enjoy it unless you cant stand scary movies with a giant alligator on the loose. Betty White is the character that raised the alligator from a baby and thinks its cute and adorable. I love that movie just because of Betty White's character in it. Its a scary movie with a bit of humor. The best kind of scary movie.

Andre, yes! You need to watch all seasons of this legendary sitcom. It is my all-time favorite show. There something special about it. I remember watching it as a teenager and have watched it ever since. You will 100% enjoy it. It was very edgy and ahead of its time with some of the topics and letting older women be funny & raunchy. Betty White was a legend. She was in a number of hit tv shows. She played a completely different character in the Mary Tyler Moore Show. She was like how Blanche is on that show. Then on a more recent show, which she was in late in her life (she was in her Mid 90s!) on a show called "Hot in Cleveland". She played a more Sophia like character that would say sarastic and crazy things. There is a video called "No one is safe when Betty White is around" Hot in Cleveland. You should react to it. It is hilarious. A totally different side than Rose on Golden Girls.

It's a great show, one of my favorites. There are a lot of references to 80's and earlier entertainers, politicians, media people that might not make sense but a quick Google Search and you'll be fine. Each one of these actresses had a long history of acting prior to Golden Girls. Rose was supposed to be Scandinavian/Swedish background and from an obscure little made up town in Minnesota. There actually is a St. Olaf, however. Take all those references with a grain of salt and enjoy!☺

Betty is def a Legend Loved by Everyone 💕. She was The Smartest person in any room as well as the most caring, empathetic and Comical. Her lifelong. mission and passion was her devotion to Animals, all animals. She was an honorary Staff Member of many Zoos. She loved Hotdogs and Vodka. Lastly, In the U.S. we have an expression that always compares something/someone old to Sliced Bread 🍞🥪 (since sliced bread has been around for a Long time) Well Betty was actually Older than Sliced Bread 🤭. She left us last year just before her 100th Birthday. Nevertheless she worked on so Many successful movies and tv shows, including Momma's Family in fhe early/mid 80s . Where she worked with Rue McClanahan (Blanche) as Rue's Niece. Rue and Bea Arthur (Dorothy) alao worked together in the mid 70s on a Tv sitcom called Maude. By the time Golden Girls came on the air in the 1980's, Betty White already had been a TV star for over 40 years. She was one of the early pioneers, hosted a daytime show, had her own sitcom in the 1950's which she produced, she and her husband Allen Ludden are also part of game show history, she was a parade host for decades, she was a star on the Mary Tyler Moore Show, and she had guest starred on many series. She continued working for another 30 years and starred in yet another successful series, Hot in Cleveland, and passed just short of her 100th birthday. Yes, she deserves her place as not only a TV pioneer and legend but probably as THE TV pioneer and legend. While Lucille Ball, Carol Burnett and others were pioneering women on TV, Betty's start in the early days of TV and her longevity make her unique. She had 22 Emmy nominations (TV's equivalent to an Oscar or BAFTA) and 8 wins over 63 years of nominations, a record for anyone for that many years between nominations. She was a good person with a sharp mind, quick with a joke, and universally beloved.

A lot of the references are outdated, but the humor still holds up so well. I think you guys would enjoy watching the show all the way through. It came out when I was a little kid and I liked it then, but I noticed I appreciated different aspects of the show as I reached different ages. It is my comfort show now. And you're damn right -- Betty White was a national treasure. She deserves every bit of praise she gets.

Have you seen the famous Superbowl commercial with Betty White in it? That's how well-known she is; they put her in things where she wasn't even playing a character, she was playing *herself*.

Betty White was legendary- she was also a big animal rights activist. She was a wonderful human being.

Yes, Betty White was absolutely a legend, both in her career and her advocacy for animals. She was an incredibly talented person who also personally had a very big heart.

By the way, the Dan Quayle joke at the beginning of the video that you didn't understand was mocking the Vice President (possibly candidate, not sure when the episode aired/was written) at the time. He had a reputation at first for being less than ideal for the job because his previous federal political history was shorter than many other Presidents/Vice Presidents. It was a talking point when he was announced as the Vice Presidential pick for George Bush, one of the arguments used against him. He later got a lot more jokes made at his expense, implying he was an idiot after he misspelled "potato". So, yeah... political joke from 1988.

Yes, Betty White is a legend in this nation. She died back in January, just barely short of her big centennial. Those dance moves were real, too. She was a highly skilled dancer in her time, along with her acting and comedy talents. She was involved in the industry until her death.

Yes, Betty was definitely a legend. And her sense of humor was second to none! Hilarious and spunky right to the end! When asked what she still wanted “to do” (at 95 YO), she replied, “Uhh, Robert Redford.” Golden Girls was an excellent TV series. You and your wife will enjoy it!

I love Betty White as much as the next person, but that was not her dancing. They were very careful to cover her face the whole time

Betty White was born on January 17 and died on December 31, 2021. She was working on a special for her 100th birthday. Too bad she missed her 100th by just 17 days. She left a legacy. I remember her from Mama's Family, and then the Golden Girls. She was a pro! I'm sure the first person that was there when she went to heaven, was her beloved husband. Then they sat down with Estelle, Bea and Rue for cheese cake. 😊

You should also watch all of Rose's "St. Olaf" stories, as well as Sophia's "Picture it: Sicily" stories as well!

Betty White wasn't Scandinavian. It was her character on Golden Girls , Rose Nylund, who was from St. Olaf, Minnesota. "St. Olaf" was a running joke on the show.

Betty White started out doing radio programs in the early 1950s. Her career spanned almost 70 years. And no, it was not actually Betty White dancing in that clip doing cartwheels... It was a stunt-double! But the clip is still hilariously funny!
