Because I can then just say, why is your god here, why did your god invent cancerous cells, etc. If you want to believe in a god, then you are just not willing to search for the beauty in the world, but are satisfied by laziness. You wouldn't think I am magic, you know there is more to it than that. So why do you look at the universe around you and just go, god did it because he can, he is a magical being. It is lazy. Science is humans way to strive to find out and learn. Religion started when humans personified things in nature they didn't understand. Volcanos, earthquakes, the sun, etc. Slowly but truly all of these things have been explained by humans, by the scientific method. This is what the 'god of the gaps' argument is. Science in the medieval Islamic world was amazing, but then religious scholars became worried that their god was disappearing. Islam should strive to be how they were in that period, rather than going backwards. But let say you want to believe in a deity; why is the reason we are here 'your' god, and not the other thousands of gods that people have worshipped over time? Why not the Greek gods, the Egyptian gods, etc. It is because of where you were born and the way you have been raised. Nothing else. Strive to learn. Presuming that you do not believe in evolution, look into explaining the path that the laryngeal nerve takes? KZbin 'giraffe laryngeal nerve', it is very interesting. Enjoy.

Not to mention, when the verse says "he found IT", that means he found the "sun". "Until we reached the setting of the sun, he found IT (the sun) [as if] setting in a spring of dark mud" The verse goes on to confirm that it was talking about the sun and not a direction because it then says, "we found NEAR IT a people".

I much prefer the Buddhist approach to one's path to God that it is individual and can only be reached by experience. In my view organized religion is certainly not for everyone, but through meditation (often also called prayer) can spending time with one's inner-self and the bit of God within everything one can draw what form of worship is right for one's belief. For God cannot measure a man for anything but his true intentions and where his heart is. Wake up people, I'm 14 and I realize this.

And yes, I am saying the quran is telling you the traveler literally found the sun "setting" in a spring of dark mud, and NEXT to it (the sun), he found a people.
