European Single Market - Explaining Brexit

With the UK about to leave the EU many options lie in front of Britain. One choice is to stay in the European Single Market. Doing this means they get to keep trading with the EU free of tariffs, quotas and taxes.

So basically if the UK doesn't join the single market then the UK will REGAIN its industries and KICK OUT foreign EU companies that have been causing so many issues for UK based companies? SOUNDS GOOD TO ME POG WE LEAVING EU BETTER OFF! The EU is the one that's worst off BY A LONG SHOT. Ill be able to start my own UK company and make EU pay tariffs for MY products without any worry about EU big companies (going to be small after EU economy crash) causing un fair and bias competition against me.

If the UK leaves the EU it will be treated like any other third country. So it will have the same tariffs, paper work and regulation as Tuvalu or any other country that has no deals with the EU.

UK will be a FIRST WORLD COUNTRY without the EU bringing it down any more! The EU is vile and is third world ideal that limits countries and causes damage to them look at italy also Italy will most likely follow us as they have said they are considering also leaving the trash vile EU that supresses them. Liechenstein, norway and iceland are in the eea which is kind of a side section of the eu.

from 3:35 the next few minutes++ are seriously misleading -- the fact is that remaining in the single market still provides the same limits against immigration that have always existed for all single market member states, easily applicable at the UK's few border crossings, ports & airports. The UK's failure to enforce is the UK's defect, not the EU's.

I know! Why is/was no one talking about this? I only found out about it on LBCs James O'Brian show just after the referendum. The law is implemented in plenty of EU countries and we've had the ability to implement it in the UK since 2004 but the government decided to create an ill-conceived "hostile environment" instead.

Very enlightening.thank you.Still at min 1:07 I suppose member states are not allowed to set diferent tarrifs on UK products due to the single customs policy.There is a risk for UK.Since 50%of your exports are to the EU opposed to 10%imports from UK, the EU could strangle the economy with unproportionate quotas and tarifs. WTO Will be very important thereto.

The 'free movement of people' is important, as it allows corporate companies to depress wages and stagnate wage growth for Western European workers. Due to the influx of East European labour moving West and with added mass immigration, this inflates corporate profit margins, with the long term view of being able to compete better with China.

But it is ony it's best costomer cuz it is in the eu If it wasn't trade with the UK would lower Eu would still trade with the UK but it would just be a husk of it's former self Btw it wouldn't "attack" with tariffs it would naturally lay them like it does to any other non eu/eea country, how is that an attack?

@@vlobster7660 depending on the tariffs yes: america, brazil, china ,ruschia, or a lot of smaller country's (mostly in africa) seems logical depending on what tariffs are set on both sides Eu wants to have easy trade, if the UK starts to cost more then another country the eu would just start asking that country to trade Look i am not saying the trade would stop but it is just stupid not to see that the trade would lower if the eu and the UK would have to pay more then when they where still in the singel market "Good try though"

If we're going into the non EU states don't forget Switzerland too. There are 32 total states in the Single Market, 28 of whom are also EU members. The reason we stuck to the core 28 for this video are that the others operate in the Single Market with exceptions so we didn't have time to go into the specifics in a short video.

Yeah the problem with the single market your forced to take in immigrants to overcrowding to live in your country no time limited they got to go back to there own countrys, by EU laws and that ECJ In Turkey i heard immigrants can only stay in the country for three months maximum any longer they get arested....no wonder UK voted to leave they had enough it.

As mentioned earlier, EU law allows any member country to send immigrants back after 3 months if they cannot prove; employment, full-time education or sufficient funds. And Turkey does not generally arrest people who stay longer than 3 months.

What a load of bollocks, this video is so misleading, it misrepresents the balance of trade big time between Europe and GB, It is us who has the upper hand here, if we decided to, we could employ such high import duties as to almost wipe out BMW / VW Sales in the UK and French Spanish and Italian Wine would become a thing of the past and allow us to enjoy real cheap wines from our Cousins in Australia. Sorry, but just had to point this out to those without some idea of what a Single European Market is, it is a bind that we shop only in one store like on the High St, how would you like that to be your only option, so why choose it!?!

Mays Treaty [deal] springs to mind, who many have now named it BINO Brexit, meaning Brexit in Name Only. We presently import foods/drinks from many far reaches of the globe, you may have not noticed these items on your supermarket shelves, wine,Fruit,Vegtables,Clothing coming from Countries that are not in the EU, but these imports come complete with ALL the EU Regulations and Tariffs and will quite easily continue to do so on WTO. What about all those Air Miles, Boat Miles, Truck Miles, this is a very dodgy thing to get your head around and again not something one can easily quantify, next time you think of buying a Car pause to think how many parts have crossed all those Eu Countries and with hand on heart I happen to know each part has entered the UK at Least Twice in it's life before landing in the showroom, this includes makers such as Ford, BMW Etc. Sorry if I sound a bit of a know all, but having lived a life and now 11yrs into my retirement one cannot help but but say "you cannot live this Old and Know Nothing". I like the fact you aren't refuting the poor economic growth the EU has suffered hahaha. And the actual number is closer to 18%, not 8%. So we have a significant amount of trade we can negotiate with. Not to mention the divorce bill (which we shouldn't be paying anyway), why not use that as a bargaining chip. And if they can 'call the shots on us' why are you ok with a faceless group in another country having such power over your own country? Does that sound like a good thing to you?

Did the British people have a say on the Lisbon treaty? We hardly had a part in deciding those laws which further centralised the EU, removing some of our sovereignty. You still didn't say if you were ok with our laws being made overseas. If we did have a say, we wouldn't have allowed the fishing industry to be driven to ruin. We certainly wouldn't allow the EU courts to have jurisdiction over us. The original goal of the EU was trading, but it has grown to something untenable now. If it reverts to that then I'll be very happy to stay as a member. Also, it's more than we're members of nato that has kept the peace. Despite the fact, over the last decade, three major EU countries have been at war in the middle east. Ukraine was invaded. An attempted coup occurred in turkey. Being part of a club is one thing, just make sure it’s the right club. One that will limit our access to the rest of the world. A much bigger club wouldn’t you agree? As I said before the single market will numb businesses to competition, especially against China and Russia. The EU is the second worst performing continent in the world. Facts you still haven’t refuted. It has made a trade deal with America much more difficult. It is untenable to stay in an economic union with countries like Turkey, Ireland an Spain. Without restraint on our economy from EU tariffs, a compulsory cap on business produce and an ability to out perform others. Whilst denying ourselves trade deals to the rest of the world. Haha it’s amazing how to you don’t believe that a country with the 5th largest economy can’t function without the EU. According to the IMF, the EU is the lowest performing economy in the world. No significant growth since 2008. Without the costs of the EU as could lower the deficit by a 1/5 in a year. Boast GDP. Clear the current national debt in 7 years. Currently 160 countries trade with the EU without being members. We can not hire or fire the people in Brussels. Unchecked power never ends well.
