It's crazy how when the goal is to make a hole in one, those really close shots are "bad". What a great experiment into the psychology of the golfer when the goals are shifted. I kinda get the feeling he's having.Up til now I've never really cared about my grades in school, good grades were always just a bonus and nice to have. I now have a target school in mind for my master's, but to better my chances of getting in I need to raise my average score within this year. This is the first time in my life that scores and grades have actual meaning, and it's actually quite stressing to think that not even a 4 on a 5 step scale is enough on average anymore. (My average is 4,11 atm. 4 is the absolute minimum, but the higher it is the better chances I have of getting in) It is a weird feeling, thinking that 80% of max score is not good enough.

Erik K Sebastian Which russian news did you read? Off course he not a person non grata. Dream on
@erikksebastian16275 жыл бұрын
@@arjanpetersen It was a facetious comment with some degree of truth to it. Rory ripped the European Tour a new one for setting up courses too easy, then said he's becoming a US citizen and going to forget about playing the EU Tour. Management surely doesn't like his statements, although they'll do anything to keep him around, including working out some automatic membership or something for top ranking guys so Rory doesn't have to play a certain number or events or qualify for EU Tour status.
@andygreen16775 жыл бұрын
Erik K Sebastian Rory is becoming a bit of a prima Donna who seems to have forgotten where he came from. I bet he'd be happy and not complain about Course set up if everyone was to shoot 25 under par and he shot 26 under. I'm fast losing any admiration for him and other top guys who seem to complain if they have a bad week. Funny how he didn't complain at Royal Portrush, maybe cos they'd have given him short shrift ?
@balthazarduclos26735 жыл бұрын
Andy Green When he complained he was 35th or something at 15 under or so, I don’t think that is considered an « off » week. Especially when the lead was at 21 under, you can see how insanely bunched up the leaderboard was.

@@jefffawcett I was actually wondering if he might have been better off going with like a 6 or 7 iron cut off shot to try to get some roll out. For me hitting 165 down hill (looked to be decent down hill at least) I would probably be hitting a 8 iron, depending on wind. Which if anything will roll back a foot or two. So if my only goal is to put it in I would be going with a 6 into the front of the green and letting it roll to the flag. Obviously my average shot will be worse, but my chances of sinking it I think would go up.
@miketarantino39175 жыл бұрын
That’s exactly his problem! He wasn’t giving it as much of a chance to go in with the shot type he chose. As soon as the ball hit the green it was dead - so unless he jarred it, it wasn’t going to happen.

It’s crazy how his first and last shots were within 3-5 feet of the hole, yet he still didn’t make it with 500 balls despite him being very consistently close to the hole. Just shows how rare it is to have an ace, and even if you hit good shots close you still need that extra luck for it to actually go in the hole for a Hole-In-One. Cool video!

I feel like these pros are making a big mistake using their normal shotmaking approach. You're going for a hole-in-one or nothing. A shot with lots of backspin to "hold" the green (an approach that works great for making birdies), is not correct. Less backspin, put in short; let the ball roll. If you're on-line you have many options for success; a simple roll-in, bouncing off the flagstick etc...

If you want to increase your chance of a hole in one (ten fold) then take one club longer and club down a bit - hit the ball purposely short of the hole and let it run 5-10 feet. This eliminates having to hit the exact distance, i.e. slam dunking the ball. On a shorter hole one might hit a ball purposely long with greater backspin to draw the ball back, thus greatly increasing your odds of a hole in one.

I used to go to the range and hit shots to the 67 yard hole. The most aces I ever got with one bucket of balls (about 86 balls) was 5 that I counted. There was another time that I did that, one of the first times and wasn't counting, because who actually sets out to count aces? I estimated that I had about 6-8 aces that day, judging by how many times I lost 'count'. That 67 yard hole has a deeper hole and might be a bit of a funnel shape of the ground around it, I think a foot wide, so it holds lots of balls. The secret is ultra consistency.
