Samantha mumbas song is over produced, too many layers. Maybe it’s her overthinking the song in production. I think if she tones it down and inserted some sort of hook in a revamp it could do well.

It’s hard to gauge the consensus of the ESC community at this early stage, but by and large people think this is a very strong national selection and I agree! I can’t believe as an Irish ESC fan we have a NF as varied and strong as this. (I actually think it’s one of the best this season). I don’t think any of these songs can replicate Bambie’s success but I don’t think any of these songs would be sure non-qualifiers which in previous Eurosongs, at least half the songs wouldn’t have had a chance. Really pleased with the selection and I hope whoever is selected gets help with a small revamp because there’s potential in all these songs for me!

My top 6 is the same as yours! I loved powerplay and growth both catchy but i think it will all depend on how they preform live and if the RTE sound is terrible again or not🙈 i was excited when i heard Samantha Mumba would have a song but was very disappointed when i heard it, it had potential but it could have done with a big note or a drop in the song. definitely one of the better range of songs this year compared to other years in my opinion!

It’s my favorite of the bunch and a strong contender, but the first time I heard Powerplay, I made such an instant connection to an inescapable 2010s Top-40 song in the first thirty seconds that I can’t get that out of my head when I hear the parallel melody chunk. Doesn’t bother me now, but it leaves me expecting a saxophone groove to pop into the mix. 🤷♀️ Emmy and Niyl are my other favorites for Ireland.

Btw the element you hear in Bobby Arlo that is similar to Hatari is the industrial sound, which I am ecstatic to see back in esc. So clearly I'm rooting for her. 😬 Plus I just feel like her staging would be cool. After her would be Niyl, Reylta, and Samantha Mumba for me (the latter which I feel got over harshly judged by some people, but then again I have no previous reference to her past sound so didn't really anticipate much - just thought it was a decent song, nothing super wow but also not bad either).

Hi there, thanks for the review! 🥰 After thoroughly listening to the songs, I have to honestly but respectfully say that no one Really grabbed me and I felt WOW. BUT there really is potential here and it will be interesting to see if any will be somewhat revamped and how they will do live 🥰. My top 6 are: 1. Bobbi Arlo "Powerplay". I like the beat and the industrial feel, it's heavy with attitude and interesting touches of sound effects. What makes it not go all the way for me is that the same melodic sequences are repeated throughout and there is not much dynamic melodically in the song. 2. Adgy "Run into the night". This is a nice song, pleasant, I like his voice and really the instruments. It misses that little something extra though to take it to a higher level, personally. 3. Reylta "Fire". I like the voice(s), they are central and nice instrumentation. I am lulled to sleep in the most soothing way by this 😍, extremely pleasant to listen to! But the song is somewhat slow without any real punch. 4. Emmy "Laika Party". Her voice has a girly sound, this song to me is dated, very boppy. But I can appreciate the beat and catchiness in 'buru bum bum". 😊 5. NIYL "Growth". I like the drums and the instrumentation, there is a power and a growth, but it doesn't reach all the way for me. 6. Samantha Mumba "My way". I like the strings and that the song builds, but not what it builds TO, it gets very floating/messy without a solid ground. Sorry. Looking forward to seeing and hearing them live! 🥰🥰💖

Wonderful review as always and interesting top6, especially your number one 🤩! I myself was inmediately sold to Bobbi, and none of the others were able to distract me from her song. I am actually a bit confused with the other songs to be honest. They're all ok but they're all a bit just not it. Like they're all going somewhere but they don't get there, does that make sense or am I rumbling nonsense😵💫?
@ShanesEurovisionReview4 күн бұрын
No, a few people have said all songs have so much potential but need a little revamp to 'get there'...so your not on your own. Bobbi has like 30 seconds left to play with, with their song so lots csn be done with Powerplay if that wins 🏆 😃 ❤️

Great review as always Shane Hallelujah. A national final that Ireland can be proud of. All 6 songs have merit and none to be dismissive over. Personally, like you, I do feel that Bobbi Arlo would be the best choice for an optimum result in Basel Imagine if Sergio Jaen ( last years staging genius ) could sprinkle his magic dust on this track. Think it could be epic, especially with an added 25 secs or so to bring a crescendo to what's already there! Of the others, the safe option would be Adgy. ESC loves an epic violin moment and this offers that. Samantha Mumba's song?....hmmmm perhaps the best vocals on offer but the composition, to my ears, sounds disjointed. Maybe with more listens it will grow on me. Reylta has a beautiful song and could pop live. We shall see. NIYL's effort for me, is almost there but just comes up a little short to my ears. Boy, was i excited to see EMMY on the list. A Norwegian singing in an Irish national final about a Soviet dog sent into space to party for the rest of her days? What's not to love. ( I presume she had submitted this to MGP only to be rejected. Don't know why. Think this would have done well there amongst this year's underwhelming selection there ) Anyway, I really think there is little between the 6 songs on offer and the old cliché of "it all depends on the live performances" is completely warranted here. Well done to Michael Kealy (HoD) in selecting a diverse group of songs Fingers crossed 🤞🏻

I couldnt agree more, Always love your reviews every year of our (sometimes dodgy 😂) songs ❤🇮🇪 My thoughts: 1st (Bobbi): to start off, heard the leak. thought id be tired of the song by now but NOPE, gets better on each listen. Love this grungy esque techno beat, soo powerful. feels like steeping into a futuristic nightclub but dystopian futuristic. Just oozes sass and charisma. they have the same stage director that did Bambie's staging last year. So if this goes through.. lets just say hes gonna have fun with this! Think Cyberpunk 2077 on stage, and its only 2:38 minutes??.. theyre definitely cooking up a dancedrop in the last half. Soo much opportunity if this goes through UGH i cant wait! 2nd (NIYL) this one surprised me, its quite current day irish folk, love the rythm. Always love a band coming into Eurovision and these guys dont disappoint, would they be good on Eurovision stage? I really think so! Wont be epic staging, but as a band theyd do great. 3rd (Emmy) im conflicted, its very catchy, very poppy. This genre is always a guilty pleasure of mine and im sure some people will like it. BUT, when i heard this a few more times it kind of started getting.. cheesy? I always heard this slang people said for jumpy, cheerie, old dance songs growing up "Cheesy Beats", this song brought that back and kinda ruined it for me 😅 4th (Reylka) beautiful song and its truely a lovely irish power ballad.. but disappointingly the chorus is repeatitive and very lackluster which kinda kills it "fiiiirrreee". if it gets a heafty revamp it could be up there. It probably wont get one though, real shame. 5th (Adgy): its a quaint pop song with a celtic twist i like. But it really doesnt go anywhere, its far too chill for a Eurovision stage. 6th (samantha mumba): it really has that classic power song you hear in Eurovision alot, However the verses are very discombobulating.. feel like whoever wrote the lyrics couldnt shorten them enough so they just jammed them in.. i dunno, shame.

As an Irish person, nothing in this selection sounds more Irish than NIYL. Sure, REYLTA and ADGY sound more ethnically Celtic but if you're talking about the modern Irish people, it's NIYL. For a nation that's delivered Hozier, Kodaline, The Script, The Cranberries, Snow Patrol - we've always delivered the alternative rock genre to the world in the last few decades. Wild Youth were of the same vein, the only issue being Wild Youth did not have a great song and had terrible staging. NIYL at least has a strong song to work with.
