2020 - These two dislike each other. Barry has fined Ronnie numerous times for rule breaking and Barry hates the fact Ronnie is very selective over which tournaments he plays in. Barry needs Ronnie more than Ronnie needs Barry and Barry hates that. Love him or hate him but snooker needs Ronnie more than Ronnie needs snooker. Barry loved working with Steve Davis because he done whatever Barry wanted him to. Ronnie refuses to play ball with Barry in that way (pun intended)
@adrianwright86854 жыл бұрын
Did you actually watch this video? - they obviously do not hate each other. Ronnie has only played in 11 tournaments this season so Snooker clearly does not need him. The same has been said about Alex Higgins, Steve Davis, Stephen Hendry etc - and it's never been true - the sport - like all sports - is bigger than any individual.
@Agman.P4 жыл бұрын
adrian wright this is an older video from when they got along better, as much as I respect Barry Hearn I have to agree that Barry is jealous of Ronnie’s power within World Snooker and Ronnie is being slightly, albeit deserved, arrogant and laps it up. That said, I have the most respect for both the legends in this video

adrian wright seems like people agree with my comment. Ronnie is the main attraction and he fills arenas. You can have a different opinion but you can’t have your own facts. Statistically when Ronnie plays in a tournament anywhere on earth more tickets are sold. That’s a fact. Read up on it.

@Liam : you're right. Rex Williams/John Pullman etc did control the game. Players had to be "invited" to join their professional "club". There were players like Geoff Foulds - a great player - for example was never invited to join that "club". How Alex Higgins got an invitation to join must be a story.

I like to talk about the punishment of snooker. Barry hearn has been involved with multiple sports, including boxing and football. Why Mike Tyson was allowed back in the ring after what he was accused of.. Eric Cantona runs into the crowd with studded boots dangerously and gets a few months ban. I don't condone what Steven Lee did but banned for 12 years? Is that the snooker association just making an example? Because it doesn't seem as serious as what the other guys was accused of. It's kind of bias?. Steven was actually one of the fan favourites. I don't think that snooker association saw that. What a popular character he was. because I believe that's the reason why Mike Tyson Eric Cantona was allowed back so eoon. I mean Mike Tyson was immediately allowed back. I'm not saying he's guilty but you can't babysit on personal opinion. Is it because it is a gentleman's sport? Looking online I think the Stephen Lee ban is going to conjure up some questions because he was popular.

There has been some animosity between them now and then, because Ronnie couldn't have the snooker tour just as he pleased, and because Barry couldn't pressure Ronnie to play in more tournaments than he wanted to. But first and foremost they seem to share a lot of mutual respect. And yes; it is an old interview. I watched it some years ago. The silver tongued, silver fox is causing a divide between Ronnie and the 'boring players who don't sign autographs', he's pushed Ronnie enough already and sounds like he's just pissing of the rest. If you criticise a group rather than an individual your bets have to be right. I don't watch snooker regularly these days but they need to be thinking along the lines of premier league format. You drag the rest up so it isn't about fitness or quality it's about form.
