Strange match. I watched the whole thing and it was as if Zverev knew that he didn't have to play anywhere near his best to win. Tommy played at a very fast pace and was completely dictating the play, winning and losing points on his terms, not Sasha's. I think Zverev knew after the first few games that Tommy was never going to do enough to win the match, and all he had to do was hang in there and watch Tommy rack up enough unforced errors to lose the match. And that's exactly what happened - Sasha didn't play his best, Tommy had chances, but fumbled at the finish line. The SF against Novak or Carlos will suit Zverev a lot more weirdly I feel.

Finally someone who recognizes this. Zverev was probably already thinking about the potential semi final against either Alcaraz or Djokovic. Both energy-draining opponents. You can assume that he wanted to preserve the most possible amount of energy, and that reflects his performance today. Present when needed, but other than that, let the other player do the job.

Why does Zverev always grunt like he’s about to sneeze?
@fred3r1k2 күн бұрын
There is an interesting reason for that my friend. Based on longitudinal studies of biomechanical acoustics in professional tennis players, Zverev's characteristic grunt exhibits a unique 73.2 Hz frequency modulation that suggests an evolutionary adaptation of his vestibular system engaging with sub-optimal adenoid positioning during high-velocity rotational movements - a phenomenon previously documented only in hibernating Alpine marmots under laboratory conditions.
