Indeed. Anyway, check out any Eurovision song contests from 1956 and beyond. The only helping tec was a mic in front of the orchestra. And sound is amazing. Music and musicians were no joke.

Nowadays the competition rules force a backtrack on all instruments, only vocals are live from the act. It is actually against the rules to plug in your instruments.

Unfortunately this song wasn´t the start for a career. The group broke off 1 year later. I knew that the singing lady is an Austrian (die Gerdi, die steirische), she congratulated "The Brotherhood of Man" in 1976 in The Hague alone; about 1 month later she told Rudi Karell this fact - singing together with Joy Fleming. It´s also to regret that the Austrian television (ORF) ignored her for 19 years - she told this in an interview in 1994 in an ORF-preview with some of the former winners. But the Spanish commentator ... By the time of this festival the Spanish dictator was still alife (he died 8 months later) and the singers of the Spanish entry were from the region of Bilbao (a region stigmatisized by fascist or conservative Spanish)!!

Just for the record: all kinds of Nationalisms were prohibited during the Dictatorship but thar didn’t mean the Basque were stigmatized. The regime put in the Basque region what was called a development pole and all the Industries were put there on purpose, leaving the South impoverished and dependent on tourism and agriculture. Such effects are still very present 45 years after.

Compared to the Turkish song that got just 3 points and placed last this song is just a throw away number, where as that Turkish song will live in Turkish hearts forever. The words were in Turkish but they meant something so deep and beautiful where as ding dang dong is well if I am being honest pretty ridiculous. The Turkish song is similar to the lyrics of one of Adele's great songs, this sounds like a nursery rhyme to me and the lyrics are pretty ding dang nothing. I am very sorry and apologize to the great Netherlands and it's people but it's the truth.

Don't be so salty. The Turkish robbed of course. The Turkish song was one of the best and should have placed top 5, but this song is a classic and a deserved winner

@@wouterdeniz A throw away number is harsh I agree but I love many songs that are in my view throw away songs what I meant is that the song is just for dancing or simple enjoyment it has no real depth. The Turkish song that year has remained for decades as a song that endures because of the beauty of the lyrics and meaning. Yes I am being a bit salty but I have to be honest the Turkish song is in my view a sweet musical masterpiece that has so much heart and soul where as bing bang bong is enjoyable sung brilliantly but just enjoyable.
