Tunisia was set to participate in the contest and had been drawn to participate in fourth place, but later withdrew the contest was originally planned to be held on 2 April 1977, but because of a strike of the BBC cameramen and its technicians, it got postponed for a month. As a result, this is the first Eurovision Song Contest to be staged in May since the inaugural edition. Due to strikes by the BBC camera staff, and lack of time to organise the contest, there were no postcards for the viewers in between the songs. However, various shots of the contests audience were shown, with the various countries' commentators informing the viewers of the upcoming songs. The intended postcards had been devised using footage of the artists in London during a party hosted by the BBC at a London nightclub. When the postcards were seen for the first time by the participant heads of delegation at the Friday dress rehearsal the day before the grand final, the delegation from NRK Norway objected to the way their young artist was portrayed. However, as it was not possible for the BBC to edit or revise footage, all the postcards had to be dropped from the broadcast. Footage from the party still formed the interval act broadcast prior to the voting sequence.

France participated in the 6 out of 8 contests that held in Uk and they got their 2 out of 5 victories in Uk.(1960,1977)

This was most possibly the Eurovision with the most scoring mistakes, as the scrutineer Clifford Brown had to stop the host Angela Rippon several times to correct the scores. Both France and Greece awarded same points to multiple countries. These errors were all adjusted after the broadcast and didn't affect the placing of any of the songs: From the Greek scores, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Austria and Finland all had 1 point deducted From the French scores, Austria, Germany, Israel, Italy and Belgium all had 1 point deducted. For the first time in the contest's history, the flags of the competing nations were displayed on the scoreboard next to the country's name.

This was the first contest I was aware of as a ‘thing’. I faintly remember the UK song in 1976 but Rock Bottom was the first Eurovision song that I knew what it was for. Wasnt allowed to stay up (I reached that landmark in 1978) and I was gutted Rock Bottom didnt win 😂

1977 was a great year and L'oiseau et l'enfant is one of the best winners ever.... small fun fact: belgium finished top 10 in every contest in the UK. fingers crossed :-).

France was the rightfull winner in 1977 and the last winner from France so far. I also really like The UK, Switzerland and Irelands entries among others. I agree with what you said about so much identity from each country entry not just the language, not just a popsong that could come from anywhere. I was born in 1989 and that year was one of my favorite of our Danish entries "Vi maler Byen Rød" but I also love Austrias song that year "Nur Ein Lied" and I think Frances entry did well, even if she was only 11 years old, but understandably they changed the age limit to 16 in 1990.

Love the 1977 contest. My birth year was 1981 and therefore my birth song is the one and only Bucks Fizz - Making Your Mind Up! Not too bad at all if I do say so myself! 😀❤️ P.S. I think this contest was about 5 or 6 weeks late because of strikes that were happening at the BBC.

As an Australian born in 1995 i can’t choose a birth song because we weren’t competing yet 😂 but I will claim Slovenia 1995 as my birth song bc it’s my favourite from 95. Loving this series so far! Keep it up!

This was the last time France won: the performer came from Democratic Republic of the Congo. Those were the days with French commentary and in listening to the recap, it was the only one worth performing.

1977 what a year (I say as if I lived it, I didn't I was -18 😂) and one of my all time favourite winning songs ❤ My birth song was actually a winning song and it's another favourite not just because it's my birth song but because it's gorgeous and that is Nocturne by Secret Garden I was -2 days when they won for Norway ❤ Also I might be related by marriage to someone who was a part of it or that could be a family myth 😅 Bonus birth song was Love City Groove which I think I'm indifferent about 😅

People likely watched it for the music or entertainment or just to support the entry meant to represent them. Flag waving isn't everything (they even got too big at one point), and the crowd can even interfere with the music too much now.

@@ToyAndGoy Yeah they were set to make the country's debut at the Eurovision 2005 with the song "Quand tout s'enfuit" performed by Aline Lahoud (it was amazing song tho), but withdrew due to Lebanon's laws barring the broadcast of Israeli content.
