And then, if you need more material, you could do 4th and 5th place as well (historically high quality songs). Other ideas would be songs that just missed out on the grand final, songs that got the same amount of points, songs that finished first with the juries vs songs that finished first with the televotes, songs that finished last with the juries vs songs that finished last with the televote, and Eurovision winners vs OGAE winners.

My winners v 2nd places 2000- Olsen Brothers this song is just iconic I adore it. It's simple instrumental only elevate the song. I do love Solo aswell but I prefer Denmark 2001- Denmark again hands down. I dislike Estonias dad dancing in my opinion one of the most undeserving winner 2002- Malta. I love 7th wonder it's just brings a smile to my face anytime I hear it. I also dislike Latvia it's just nothing special can't really understand why it won. 2003- turkey hands down. Every way that I can is my all time favourite Eurovision song 😍 2004- Ukraine. The second ruslana step on that stage you could tell ahe was going to win. The amount of confidence that she had and how she controlled the stage was phiniminal. 2005- Greece. Don't really need an explanation for it. I honestly don't know how malta came second 2006- Finland. I love how a metal song won Eurovision one of the most quirky original winners ever 2007- Serbia. Moltiva is the most beautiful ever and even though I don't speak Serbian I felt every word of it. I don't like Verka no hate as much as I'm a Ukraine stan I can't get on board with this. 2008- ukraine hands down shady lady is just iconic. Russia have absolute no clue how this won. In the strong year it was how on earth did this win. 2009- Iceland. Even though I'm not a massive fan of it I still prefer it over fairytale. I could never get the hype of fairytale not to discredit it. I just don't see the appeal 2010- Turkey- Manga deserved to win over lena in my opinion. Satilite was good for it's time but now.... has strongly grown off me. I still listen to we can be the same whilst I don't listen to Germany 2011- Honeslty neither personally the weakest entries from both italy and Azerbaijan I really dislike both and I honeslty don't know how they came 1st and 2and maybe the fact italy returned that year gave them so extra votes 2012- don't hate me but Russia over Sweden. Party for everyone is such a banger and it's so fun and the Russian grannies are just so cute 😍😍 euphoria has just grown off me alot its incredibly overplayed to the point it actually leaves a sour taste in my mouth when I listen to it. 2013- denmark. I mean the song sounds so irish I love it. Emilie in this performance is just so pure and wholesome I love it. Yet again this is one of Azerbaijans worst entries and yet again don't understand the appeal of hold me 2014- the Netherlands. I adore clam after the storm. I'm a massive country fan so this is right up my street. I love rise like a Phoenix aswell but I just prefer the netherlands 2015- a million voices hands down. I dislike heroes and personally I can't give it credit as a good winner based on staging alone because the song itself is nothing special 2016- 1944. Everything about this is a perfect winner for me. Ethnic sounds a great story and emotive. I feel everything she is singing it's so powerful. I love sound of silence and did deserve second place based on vocals alone but in my opinion 1944 is just better in my opinion . 2017- Bulgaria. Nothing against Salvador I just don't like this song. Beautiful mess is also not the best song but it is better than Portugal's 2018- Israel. Toy is a sing that was good for it's time the shock appeal behind the song is amazing but now it's only meh for me I actually skip the song from time to time when it comes on my playlist. Cyprus is a good song don't get me wrong and elani elevated the song live but I don't see why it got second place nothing about it besides her Charisma is good. It should of placed about mid table and not 2nd in my opinion 2019- the Netherlands. Hands down I adore arcade this song has aged so well in my opinion. The song never fails to make me emotional even though I prefer the studio cut more the live is still really impactful. Soldi on the other hand I got through periods where I don't like the song and that's a problem. I have a love hate relationship with it. Also I love your new song together

Wow, I loved reading through this Odhran! Like a little blog entry. Don't worry I wont come for you with 2012 and 2018 haha! It's sad that overplaying can have that effect I kind of feel grateful that In the UK Eurovision isn't as hyped because I don't have that danger unless I'm the one to overplay it. @@Lukeovision my problem with euphoria is in the eurovision home concerts every second song was euphoria and after about the first 2 covers it got quiet sickening to keep hearing the song over and over to the point I just grew completely off the song. Euphoria wasnt my winner to begin with for 2012 that honor goes to Spain or Macedonia but I loved the song back whilst now I just get annoyed about the song constantly being played. I do give it credit it is a phenomenal winner and I'm not trying to discredit any of her success but there is a point it needs to be taken of the pedestal everyone has it on. As for Feugo look it's a good song and I'm not taking that away but the song at the end of the day is one dimensional it has no depth to it which is sad because its catchy but catchy only goes so far for me. In my opinion a sing is meant to have some story or meaning behind it not only a catchy beat. That's why for the song my winner is Israel and for the performance my winner is Cyprus

In 2016 I really didn’t like the Ukraine song 1944. But it grew on me immensely. Now I cry every time I hear that song. It’s so historically and emotionally powerful💕. And Duncan all the way😍! Kisses from The Netherlands 🇳🇱

I really adore Sanomi. I'm happy Turkey won as it had been a long time coming, but Sanomi's the sort of song that I would love outside of Eurovision and it's really unique with the traditional sounds and the use of the voice as an instrument in itself. Definitely one of my all time favorites 💜🇧🇪

2000 - Denmark, 2001 - Denmark (although I'm happy for Estonia that they won), 2002 - Latvia, 2003 - both are good can't decide, 2004 - Ukraine, 2005 - not a massive fan of either but Greece, 2006 - Finland!!!! Anyone who disagree can go home! 2007 - Serbia - just for significance but I do love Verka more, 2008 - I'm sure Dima's a nice guy but musically I hate everything he stands for and I love Ukraine, 2009 - Norway, 2010 - I really like both but Lena bought Italy back, 2011 - I don't mind the winner but Italy's more interesting, 2012 - Sweden but I love the grannies, 2013 - Denmark! I hate Azerbaijan 2014 - both are good but Austria 2015 - unpopular opinion but I love Heroes and Russia bores me, 2016 - both are good can't decide, 2017 - Portugal but Bulgaria is good, 2018 - Israel sorry Luke - Cyprus is so generic if every good, 2019 - Netherlands just because of this year's contest the Dutch were great and so was Italy getting their due and with something right up my strada.

2000- the Olsen Brothers deserved their win. I'm not a big fan of Solo. 2001- Estonia just about wins here, Denmark is a strong 2nd. 2002- Love both songs, but Malta a bit more. 2003- deffinately Turkey. Never really liked belgium entry that year. 2004- Ukraine, but Lane moje is a very strong 2nd. 2005- I wasn't the biggest fan of Greeces entry back then(my overall winner that year was and is still Switzerland) but now when I look back at it, it's really good and a bit better than Chiara but I love her song too. 2006- rightful winner. Always loved Hard Rock hallelujah. 2007- Molitva all the way. Verka is my 3rd place (my 2nd is Greece) 2008- like the winner, but their were so many better ones and one of them was Shady Lady. 2009- Norway rightfully won, Iceland was in my top 10 but not as high as 2nd place. (My 2nd place was Bosnia & Hercegovina.) 2010- Manga is my winner that year. 2011- Love Italys entry way more than Running Scared. 2012- yes Euphoria all the way. (The gannies were super sweet, but place way too high in my opinion sorry) 2013- Love Hold me, but Only teardrops is a well deserved winner. 2014- rise like a pheonix is my winner. Netherlands 2nd. 2015- a million voices should win out of those two(grown a bit tired of heroes, but my winner that year was italy with Russia 2nd) 2016- not a fan of 1944 and I liked Sound of silence more back then than now, but if I have to choose, Dami Im should have won out of those two, even though my winner was Israel with Made of Stars. 2017-love Salvadors song more when I look back on it, but still think Bulgaria should have won. 2018- not a fan of either of them, but if I have to pick one I'd pick Cyprus. 2019- The Netherlands is my winner all the way, with Italy as 2nd.

But it's grown on me since then.) 2006: Finland (Watching the semi final, I hoped they would qualify, just so I could see those funny costumes again. Turned out I got to see them a third time as well.) 2007: Serbia (This one has also grown on me.) 2008: Russia (Not my favourite in total, but among these two, they deserved it.) 2009: Norway (I love Iceland's entry, but they chose the wrong year.) 2010: Turkey 2011: Azerbaijan (Not a fan of either, but this one isn't too bad.) 2012: Sweden 2013: Denmark 2014: Netherlands 2015: Russia 2016: Australia (I like them both, but this one is a step ahead.) 2017: Portugal (One of the best entries ever. Such a moment.) 2018: Cyprus 2019: Netherlands (I agree this is the hardest one. At the time, I was with Italy, but I might have changed opinion now. So hard to say.)

Interesting fact about Chiara (Malta, 2005): She represented Malta in 1998 and bookies were so set on her to win, that when the last country was calling out the votes, they were already pulling out the candles that were onstage for her performance because they were both tied in first place (in fact watching it back, the BBC commentator said "Oh, so that means Malta's won!" when Israel took the 8 points. In the end, Dana International ended up winning that year. No shade against Dana because she made history that year and I was there for it (even as a child!), but I do think Chiara deserved it that time AND maybe even in 2005. She is a literal angel and Malta WORSHIPS her. Not so much in 2009 though 😂

@@Lukeovision So you can imagine how Malta felt in 2005 when we came in second 😂 We were like "Oh not again!" Her and Ira Losco are the biggest successes in Maltese Eurovision history. We weren't the same after 2005, several non-qualifiers and bottom half placed songs

Euphoria is iconic, but overplayed, and even though my country is also a winner of the 2010's, I liked most of the runner ups over the winners (except Conchita)

Years when the runner up deserved the win, in my opinion (plus some 3rd place opinions): 2004: Ukraine was iconic, but Serbia & Montenegro was both iconic and absolutely breathtaking. 2008: Dima Bilan returns with a significantly worse song. "Shady lady" was way better. 2010: "Satellite" is super catchy and fun, but "We could be the same" brought something so different. 2013: Can I say "Only teardrops" was the clear winner, while also saying "Hold me" should have won? [2015: We deserved the win over Russia, but we should apologize to Italy forever for stealing what was their trophy] [2016: Ukraine was better than Australia, but Russia was robbed blind. Fight me] 2017: Again, 3rd place should have won, but between 1st and 2nd, it's Bulgaria all the way for me. 2018: ~Fuegooooo~ [epic dance break]. Need I say more? 2019: Soldi then. Soldi now. Soldi always. Soldi 'til I fucking die. Then even more Soldi.

Wild Dances was breathtaking too, just in other meaning. In 2015 I'd say Latvia was by far the greatest and the most unique. If not Latvia then Italy. Sweden would be a great 3rd place participant. As for 2016, Russia just stole the idea from Sweden 2015 and Ukraine 2008. Its lyrics is soooooo stupid. The song is empty. Ukraine & Australia & Bulgaria were much better and much more original

I remember how sad I was in 2000 when the Olsen Brothers won over Alsou but I also was very much the target audience (20 and female). Looking at them now I still feel the nostalgia of Alsou but I would pick the Olsen Brothers out of those too (still would have liked Germany to win). I then didn't really watch anymore. No time because of university and a different taste in music. Lordi brought me back because that was my taste in music and I wanted to see the face my grandma would make during this song. Also liked Lithuania that year but Finland will be my favorite winner of all times (probably for the rest of my life). 2008 I do not agree with Russia winning at all, mainly because Russia. And they proved that in 2009 with the miserable camera work during Ukraines fun song. 2011 was a bad year again. By now I would be fine with Italy winning but back then I didn't like that one either. From then on I would always pick the winner over the second place. Even 2018, but that mostly because I never understood the appeal of Eleni and her song. It doesn't mean I wouldn't have preferred a different winner but in a choice between 1 and 2, I think the better one has always won. 2012 I would have picked Albania over Sweden, 2013 Norway over Denmark, 2015 Latvia over Sweden, 2017 Moldova over Portugal, 2018 Italy over Israel and 2019 was Iceland for me. 2018s Italy is one of the best songs I've ever heard in Eurovision and one of the very rare songs that made it on my everyday playlist.

I have such mixed feelings about 2006 and 2008 as a finnish person, because I really loved Dima in 2006 but obviously wanted Lordi to win, and then in 2008 I was glad that Dima won, but the song wasn't as good as 2006... Also Italy should have won 2011, 2015 and 2018. I also love Soldi but Duncan deserved the win.

Top 3 winners of those for me would be: 2012 - Euphoria is an amazing modern song, love it, it sounds good even now. 2014 - A great song, sounds like a Bond theme, i like it 2017 - I love ballads and songs in their native language, and this one is so nice and sweet, i love it. Bottom 5 from those would be: 2001 - I'm sorry but i hate this, it sounds so amateur, like something from an american comedy movie when there is the song at the final party scene at some barn/farm. How did France not win that year? 2002 - This sounds like it wants to parody the kind of songs that were popular in Russia back in early 2000s, but it does a terrible job of that. Song is super uninteresting, and her performance is borderline cringy. Again, how did France not win that year? 2011 - Worst winner of all time? Probably! The female singer sounds terrible, her voice is so painful to listen to and the song is so, so incredibly mediocre, Azerbaijan has sent so many good songs, it's a shame none of them won. 2013 - Super unpopular opinion but her voice bothers me and the song is nothing special. Not bad, just not winner material to me. 2015 - Another unpopular opinion maybe? This sounds like a David Guetta copycat, without any soul in it. It feels like it was mass produced and if it wasn't for the performace, i wouldn't even have put it into top 10. Another reason why i'm putting it as low as bottom 5 from that era is because there were so many strong entries in 2015, so to see Heroes win over them is still painful.

So, i dont want to offend anyone, but molitva did not deserve the win in 2007. I think its a nice song and a very good one, but the win was not justified in any way. It just shows if you look at the views of those performances. Ukraine has double the times of views than molitva had and verka also became a legend in comparison to molitva. I dont think Molitva is a bad song at all, but it shouldnt have won that year at all. 2 or 3 place would be more reasonable

some min after your intro...yes, ESC 2018, Cyprus, ROBBED! I really liked Netta and toy, but for me, this should have been the runner up and Eleni, the winner. In the series "Eurovision again", at last justice was done to Eleni and she clearly won the fan revoting🥳👏🏼👏🏻👏🏻👏🏿...and Luke and I are still looking after the matter, that this robbery will not be forgotten 😅......some min later: 2009, Ukraine-Shady lady should have won too, Dina robbed her this year, definitely. For me, 2019 should have won Mammoud and Italy over the Netherlands, I find "loving you is a loosing game" a nice ballad, touching, but for me Italy and Mammoud were far more original and energetic. So, and my most unpopular opinion: 2012, the Russian granmas should have won over Euphoria and Laureen...I know, I feel pretty alone and unpopular now😬 now my suggestion for next flashback, review of all the 3rd places, maybe in comparison to the winners, from 2000-2019, there are some super gems in those third places, that went totally unnoticed

Ok my views 2000 winner 2001 runner up but winner ok 2002 winner but if I remember not many I liked 2003 winner 2004 winner love this very xena 2005 love this too 2006 winner but I prefer the runner up song to the win in 2008 2007 can't choose love both 2008 runner up 2009 winner 2010 winner 2011 um neither.
