a little correction : he didn't say "boaz" (his name) during the song, he said "kmo az", which means "just like back then" ;-)

One of the best songs Israel ever sent... Boaz released a few more songs but soon after he became more religious. I'm not sure if he makes music anymore. These days he says he regrets performing in Eurovision since it made him desecrate the sabbath.

Oh no! I feel sorry for liking it so much now, sorry Boaz 🙊🙈 lol (but it’s still a great song!)

The anthropologist is Boas, he’s Jewish but not Israeli. Boaz Mauda is this guy and he is also Jewish and Israeli.

You should check out Bo'az's song with Jelena and Sirusho (they also performed in eurovision 2008) called "Time To Pray"

You have a good ear, and you're totally right about Israeli Oriental music containing quarter tones. One fragment of this song sounds like Yemeni music. I guess that's because Dana International, who wrote the song, comes from a Jewish-Yemenite family. BTW I myself don't have a good ear for quarter tones, because my parents are Israelis of Eastern European decent and I grew up on "Old" Israeli/Hebrew music, and also on Israeli rock and pop.

Haha thanks, I developed my ear out of necessity. That’s really interesting, what are some of the songs that more characterize the tradition you’re familiar with?

@@JordanDavisEurovision If I think about old Israeli songs from the days I was a young kid, two of the most beautiful songs I can think about were sung by Ruhama Raz. I put the link below. Hope you enjoy them!!!!! "Everybody has a City Called Jerusalem" kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5vIk2Bufrt3fdE "The Sand Will Remember" kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2i7YamBaNV6m7s

THE SAND WILL REMEMBER The sand will remember the waves But the foam - will not be remembered, Besides by those who passed with the late night wind. From their memory it will never be erased. All will return to the depths of the sea Except the white foam. The candles of the night died out, The friendship, the love, The youth, that came to an abrupt end. On the beaches of their hearts too, Quivered then something pale And they drew in the sand When the passing moon Suddenly lit a distant face and a faint laugh All will return to the depths of the sea Except the white foam. The candles of the night died out, The friendship, the love, The youth, that came to an abrupt end. There were empty shells there That roared the lament of the sea. And a cemetery on the hills, And two that passed in silence, Between the flowers and the graves and the sycamore. All will return to the depths of the sea Except the white foam. The candles of the night died out, The friendship, the love, The youth, that came to an abrupt end.

Fun Fact: He failed to receive any 12 points in both the Final and Semi Final 1 Another fun Fact to go with that fun fact: in 2008 he was the highest in both the Semi Final and Final to not receive any twelve points (For Semi Final 2 it would be Croatia's entry)

That’s actually shocking to me, but I suppose at the same time not shocking in a way. I’m just glad he still managed to do so well considering!

Hello Jordan, luv your reactions would like to see you react to Netta's new song Cuckoo, from Eurovision: Europe shine a light kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHSnk2qNfamBgtE&start_rad Not sure what ever happen to Boaz Mauda tho there were rumors that he became very religous and we dont hear from him much

Hey Jordan, I guessed you would like this one - it was one of my favourites of 2008 too. Boaz Mauda is probably the best vocalist Israel has ever sent and, like you, I instantly wanted to explore more of his music. From what I gather he won a Voice style contest in Israel the year before he entered. All of his appearances from the talent show are available on youtube and his vocals in every single one are stunning too. He released one really great album but then, as Mosquito said in his comment below, disappeared from the scene. Favourite track from the album, WELL worth a listen is Shetisha'er kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3fYpImpo9WVaqs. (this video has an English translation of the lyrics). Yes, he was a hottie too :) ...and wow, who knew Dana International could write agood song like this!!
