The Eurovision Song Contest 2010 was the 55th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Oslo, Norway, following the country's victory at the 2009 contest with the song "Fairytale" by Alexander Rybak. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Norsk rikskringkasting (NRK), the contest was held at the Telenor Arena, and consisted of two semi-finals on 25 and 27 May, and a final on 29 May 2010, tying with the 1999 edition for the contest hosted the latest. The three live shows were presented by Norwegian television presenters Erik Solbakken and Nadia Hasnaoui and singer Haddy N'jie.
Thirty-nine countries took part in the contest, with Georgia returning after its one-year absence. Meanwhile, Andorra, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Montenegro all decided against participation, mainly for reasons related to the global financial crisis. Lithuania originally announced its non-participation, but was later among the participants confirmed by the EBU.
The winner was Germany with the song "Satellite", performed by Lena and written by Julie Frost and John Gordon. This was Germany's second victory in the contest, following their win in 1982, and their first win as a unified country. It was also the first win for one of the "Big Four" countries since the rule's introduction in 2000. Turkey, Romania, Denmark and Azerbaijan rounded out the top five. Romania, finishing third, equalled their best result from 2005, while further down the table, Georgia achieved their best result to date, finishing ninth. For the first time since the introduction of semi-finals in 2004, Sweden failed to qualify for the final. The last time Sweden was absent from a Eurovision final was in 1976.
The global financial crisis at the time, affected how the event was run; the host broadcaster NRK was forced to sell its broadcast rights for the 2010 FIFA World Cup to TV 2 and Viasat in order to finance the event.
The EBU announced prior to the contest, that the voting system used in the semi-finals would change from previous years to balance jury voting with televoting. A return of accompaniment by orchestra was also proposed, but did not happen.

Cyprus Never understood Germany as a winner, and that’s fine, I don’t have to agree with every result. I'm so happy that Schlager Lucas chose to do a 'My Top' of the 2010 'Eurovision Song Contest' (my favourite 'Eurovision' year, fact fans; as I like and love so many of the songs). Lucas' number 9 out of 39, 'Lako je sve' by Feminnem for Croatia is my favourite song in the whole of 'Eurovision' history. No mean feat. The vocals - individually and the harmonies, the emotion, the way the composition builds, then pulls back for those tender moments, the sheer quality. I was gutted when they never made it through to the final. I could be incorrect(?!), yet Paula Seling and Ovi were the first act since Lynsey de Paul and Mike Moran (United Kingdom 1977) to have a duo on the piano represent a country. I'm such a 'Eurovision' nerd (and geek). Although I prefer 'Playing with Fire' to 'Rock Bottom'. Which is your favourite 'Eurovision Song Contest' song/performance? @@TheGingerButterfly My favourite song or just performance? My favs songs are Apres Toi (1972), Germany 1982, UK 1977 (yeah that one you're saying) and Chai by Ofra Haza. If you ask just performance i would say some of the UK's entries (1977, 2006 or 2007), playing with fire (Romania) and maybe more because i really like when the songs makes interesting visuals. @@Leoss98 For me, the song and how that song makes me feel, when the singer connects to the song, is what's the most important part of the 'Eurovision Song Contest'. Discovering new songs, artists, and the musical sounds of other nations is the [read a close] second best thing about the 'Eurovision'. The visual is important, yet not more important than the song. Too much style over substance in the music industry today. 'Zero Gravity' - Kate Miller-Heidke (Australia 2019) is a song I like, yet the visual was stunning (the gaphics for the Earth were so realistic) and the bendy pole thang was a magical. Other visual performances that inspire me are 'O mie' - Aliona Moon (Moldova 2003 - bet that frock isn't machine washable at 40°), 'Help You Fly' - IVAN (Belarus 2016, technically the beginnig of that song), 'You Are the Only One' - Sergey Lazarev (Russia 2016), and 'Algo Pequeñito' - Daniel Diges (eSpain 2010 - although the second performance, not first perfomance when that silly man stormed the stage). As I only knew the 'Eurovision Song Contest' existed in 1992 and watched my first whole show in 1993, taping it in 1994 (record and play!), I must play catch up with the 70s and 80s for the performances. 😯Bloody hell, I only looked at two 'Eurovision' videos and read the comments, now it is just gone 5am. How the hell did that happen?! I must hit the hay (not to be taken literally the Germans reading this). 🌜*Nos da. *Welsh for good night.

My top 3: special mention: Moldova, way better than their 2017 entry 3. Germany- in my opinion, it's a deserved winner...even though they must have won in 2011, Satellite is still a great song 2. Turkey- I personally love it...one of the most memorable Turkey entries for me...but people from Turkey should stop spamming hate on Lena's 'Satellite' videos because it's already been 12 years, get over it.. 1. Romania- one of our best entries...they were amazing that year!

39- I thought that this was good 38- Feels like a performance from a Disney Film 37- This has hugely grown on me 36- Shame Sweden didn't make the final because she did really well 35- Huge robbery 34- Emma Bunton's done well since the Spice Girls broke up 33- Another grower. Rubbish song 16- This has to be one of my favourite winners. Such a good tune 15- This was really Underrated. So dramatic, I love it 14- Annoying song and boring as well 13- Should have made the final. Traditionally amazing 12- It was good then the rapper joined 11- Another Underrated song. Can that Epic Sax Guy have his own song? 10- Nice voice but a cheesy song 9- I rather their entry for Bosnia but it is a very good song 8- It is a good song but people overrate it too much 7- Not as good as her winning song but very relaxing and pretty 6- Niamh from Ireland's double. This is such a banger and was hugely underrated 5- Really pretty ballad. Deserved it's high finish 4- Sweet song but not my cup of tea 3- Great song, except for the voice crack 2- Wow. What a performance and a fantastic song 1- Another really impressive song. It definitely deserved it's high place

It makes me very nervous whenever I see a video about 2010 Eurovision because almost always everyone is going to comment about how they love Turkey, and I personally think Turkey is overrated. And it makes me horrified that some people actually think Turkey 2010 is underrated. Turkey 2010 is not underrated, lol. Especially because everyone is like, "OMGZ, WE LOVE MANGA. THEY SHOULD WIN.
