Spain, Germany and the UK have zero excuses. France and Italy came 2 and 1 in the final, both of them top 5 in both the jury and televote. It isn't some disadvantage, you just don't send good enough quality consistently. Italy has been the most consistent country of the last decade and have been rewarded with a win. France has also been quite consistent and have been given 2nd place. I think they should be proud.

The Netherlands usually vote for a party that has a bigger chance of succes that aligns with their own opinion even if there is a better party they won’t risk it because they know an ‘enemy’ party might win if they vote for a smaller party. That way we are ”in the same boat” now. But UK, don’t give up, finns didn’t and has never given. They just try harder probs for that.

2007 was also in Top 10. It was a female singer with rock band backmusic. They stopped sending rock acts after 2008 when the band Teräsbetoni was heavily criticised especially by their fan base for their participation in the contest. For many other rock bands it seemed like a career killer to go there.

People don't want the host country to win again. I've not looked at detailed televote results but I imagine they came quite close with some countries. I think they need to overall the voting system. Only giving points to 10 out of 26 countries warps the true order, of course Italy would still win and uk would probably still come last, but it would probably negate neighbour, polical and diaspora voting if every country was awarded points. The representatives could read out the top score and then share the rest, and as a bonus no more 0 points ever, because that's just cruel.

I think this year was all about the performance and presentation. Gjon's Tears might have had a musically correct entry, but I think everyone (I mean the public voters), wanted something more upbeat and demonstrative. I was actually shocked by Frances finishing spot, as I thought Barbara's performance was not great and Destiny had a better video than live performance. Fell in love with Stefania so I was hoping for a top ten finish and I think Katerina and Go A, will hit the international scene, and have lots of success now, with the exposure. I am sorry but the UK looks like they do not want to host this event anymore because that entry was not even average. But the right entry won so onwards to Rome, or another great Italian city!

Live performance was one of the weakest, song was decent. But remember, to get points you can't just have a mediocre song, it needs to be good enough to make it into the top 10 of a country's results. This year was just too strong for that to happen

He was a disaster during his singing. For 3 minutes I was wondering how bad the Big 5 effect does to these people since in the GF they are new while all the other contestants are already cool with being judged on stage. James is such a sweet guy but his heart was beating so fast that I could practically listen to it from my couch and this heavily influenced his singing leaving him without sufficient air on so many notes. He was painful to watch and there was when it stroke me: Omg don't let him come last...

We are not getting voted down its just that the juries and public preferred 12 songs more than ours. Thats perfectly understandable. There were at least 12 songs which are better. The staging looked cheap and tacky with a song to match. I have no quarrels with the result.

and sure the jury votes are somewhat political and that could affect it, but televotes really speak the truth. i said in another comment that that song could chart decently on a pop chart but uks song really wasnt a good eurovision song. its an okay song but does not fit eurovision if your plan is to impress.

I am British and was ashamed of the song and the singer. Am sorry but what a state this guy was and he was too breathless to even sing in tune. Italy deserved that win. Maneskin are pro and are going to be huge. They are already the opening act for the Rolling Stones how amazing is that.

UK, Germany and Spain ONCE AGAIN at the bottom. It just goes to show how tired of the big 5 people are. Out of the 5, only Italy has consistently had good results. France recovered well this year, but the big 5 pass should be abolished. The fact they automatically qualify has been making them send really poor tracks. It's actually disrespectful to the nations that actually work hard to qualify.

@@esc1074 Cantó's song last year was nothing special but was better than this year's, so it just goes to show how lost the Spanish delegation is. By the way, year after year, they complain on TVE, Spain's broadcast, about being targetted by EBU and suffering prejudice. They should be more humble and acknowledge the songs they have been sending aren't very good. Worst than theirs, only the UK's and Germany's. A pity.

Let's not forget that Italy got out and still everyone is under the threat of them leaving again. Italy's songs were nowhere near better than the rest of the big 5 but they play the game well. If the UK leaves for good, let''s see then what happens. People have taken Germany, Spain, UK and France for granted and this is the result. I agree that the big 5 privilege inserts a silent till now inequality and should be abolished since Europeans don't seem to forgive easily. Nonetheless, the UK after that SHOULD leave immediately the contest. And let's see what happens next.

@@irondasgr I doubt the UK will leave. If they do, the only thing that will be missed is their money, not their songs. Weird, huh? It's wrong how money dominates Eurovision. Turkey has repeatedly said they won't return unless the big 5 privilege is abolished. Maybe it'd be a good thing if the big 5 left and Eurovision was forced to get smaller. Perhaps it'd be a new start for the whole competition.
